View Full Version : Need help to name Beatles themed Burlesque show In Los Angeles in May, 2010

Hi everyone!

I co-produce a monthly burlesque show in Los Angeles called Peepshow Menagerie. We are very proud to be called "The Nerdiest Burlesque Show In The West" and we have produced show with themes like Disney, Opera, The 'Road To' films, and many more since August of 2008.

Along those lines we were planning on doing a burlesque tribute to the work of The Beatles and I can tell you that from all the acts that are being developed, it's going to be a very fun show for both us and the audience.

So for obvious reasons we just can't call it "Beatles Burlesque". I put up a vote for the burlesque community on Facebook and while I appreciated the title they voted for, I don't know if it really best represented a show with a Beatles Theme for Beatles fans. So I thought, why not bring this vote to the very fans like us we are doing the show for?

One thing to consider, although this show has a 21 & Up admission (due to the location), this is technically a PG-13 event with no nudity and a lot of comedy (in the style of the burlesque shows from the 30's and 40's). So we we don't want anything that sounds TOO sexual. Here are the names we are considering. If you would be so kind to pick one you like, I will add it to the existing votes and hopefully we will come up with a title that burlesque and the average (and super) Beatles fan alike could enjoy...

"Please Please Me!"
"Ticket to Grind!..."
"Let it Tease!"
"Please Tease Me!"
"Hoops And Garters!"

I appreciate your votes on this title. We tried endless variations on every album and song titles (Magical Mystery Tease, Magical Mystery Burlesque, etc...) and these seem to work the best out of all of them.

Thank you again, and I can't wait to see what you vote for and hope to see some of you at the show.

Please Tease Me and Ticket To Grind are pretty good. When and where will the show be?

Although "Grind" is an old burlesque term (as in "bump and grind") I was worried that it would be TOO strong. But perhaps I'm over-thinking it? ;)

The show will be on Wednesday May 19th, 2010 at Bordello in Los Angeles. Doors open at 9pm, show will start by 9:45 (but the earlier you get there the better because our shows fill up quickly).

So between, the two, which do you honestly like more?

Well, I know you're asking Jerry (not me), but I think Please Tease Me is more cleverly risque... sassy and appropriately provocative. Ticket to Grind is a little cruder. So I s'ppse it's what you're going for.

Bordello's a cool place... I'm going to try and make it. What's the cover?

please please me is sexual all by itself XD

but if you want to be more straightforward, i guess you could do please tease me. but i still think please please me is just a great name by coincidence.

Because of the amount of performers in this one (fastest show we've ever booked!), we're looking at the $12 to $15 range. As soon as I know, I'll let you all know. What we may be trying to do is instead of having a band opening like we normally do, we may go right into the burlesque and comedy. Usually we like the band as a buffer for latecomers, but we are going to stress that people get there early for this one for the best seating and viewing area.

You are officially the first person to vote for Please Please Me, BUT for the exact right reasons I wanted it in there in the first place. :)

I also like Please Tease Me. Suggestive, but not overly so, and I think the most people would pick up the reference to the Beatles tune.

The poster looks great! Haven't seen any around town... but now that I don't live in Hollywood anymore, I don't see as much as I used to.
