Our first boot is a good one but only IF...if you are very familiar with the "Back To The Egg" album, since many of the tracks here are from that album. Still, this soundboard quality disc is a real treat. These shows were the last hurrah for the band Wings, since there had just been yet ANOTHER line-up change, and Paul had grown tired of dealing with it all. Band members have since said they were just going thru the motions with these show, but its hard to tell, as all tracks come off quite well compared to other versions of Wings. We get to hear several song not heard live very often, such as "Hot As Sun" (only heard on that tour?), as well as one new one...1980s big hit single "Coming Up", heard here in its unedited form, sporting an extra verse not heard on the studio version. Theres also a rip-roaring version of "Mull of Kintyre" almost alone worth the price. This was a European audience, and they can tend to resemble football terraces instead of rock concerts!
Its also interesting how some songs HAVENT changed: Paul STILL plays "Let It Be" and "Fool on the Hill" the same way as 1979.The two shows music is basically identical; but isnt a nice live "Every Night" worth another listen? On the downside, the mix isnt alwys to certain instruments advantage: the piano is very subdued, while the guitars really rock. This is good. And again, some songs, such as "Spin It On", are going to be unfamiliar to all but ardent Macca-heads.
SUMMARY/RATING: 4 stars. So what. Yousat thru the umpteen OTHER live Paul discs. Give a good unvarnished show a listen, you'll enjoy it.
As for the others....
"The Lost McCartney Album": 2 and a half stars. Coming up..next..in a jiffy, so to speak (im tired of writing in other words, hold on!) images/icons/wink.gif

I LOVE Back to the Egg and now put this boot on my BZ wish list. images/icons/wink.gif I'd heard of it before but hadn't looked at the tracklisting since I don't delve much into live Paul boots.

Thanks for the informative review! images/icons/smile.gif

Now, to wrap this up so I can move on to others...
The Lost McCartney Album finds Paul in a transitional period. Wings were all but done, so he decides to take things full circle and record an LP in his home, with lots of weird sounds and experimentation. Thats what you get here too, as on the "McCartney II" album, but more of it. That LP had been planned as a double, but Columbia Records balked at this idea, so Macca cut down the track listing (thereby eliminating some instrumentals that needed eliminating) and editing down other tracks. For instance, "Coming Up" sports a whole extra minute and a half as well as an extra verse. ALL the edits were well-advised, since this unexpurgated "McCartney II" drags.. a lot. As for the boot itself, I was not too impressed with the sound quality. My copy sounded as if it were from a tape, and I believe the original source for these songs was an acetate of the double LP. To top that off, the songs play a bit too fast...were they that way to begin with, seeing Pauls penchant for slowing down /speeding up stuff? Who knows. But that said, if you are a fan of this underrated album, you should enjoy hearing how it originally sounded. If not...you'll fast forward to Coming Up and leave it there, probably. ** 2 STARS.
"Wings From The Wings" is one of the most famous boots of all time...but not for its sound quality, thats for sure. Its basically because this boot originated as a TRIPLE disc live set (sound familiar?) pressed on red, white and blue vinyl (1976, natch), and then sold briskly, in Capitols parking lot!
The CD sounds as if it were recorded up in the nose bleed section of the stadium, which is a shame, cause it would be nice to hear these things a bit better, to compare them to the "Wings Over America" set (which this boot inspired, lets say..). As it is, this * 1 STAR disc is for the ultra hardcore collectors, and thats it.
And for the dregs of the bunch...I thought a disc called "The Making of James Paul McCartney" could be quite cool, especially if it had that nice version of "Big Barn Bed". Nope. No "My Love", none of it. Thsi disc actually features 6 tracks of clicking and light guitar strumming. Whats that clicking? Well..recall the scene in which Linda snaps Paul whilst he plays "Bluebird" and the like? Well, these, my friends, are the raw tapes from that. Geesh!!! Oh, and you get to hear Paul try out his spoken intro for "Live and Let Die". Thrilling. At 0 STARS , simply the worst boot ever. Maybe its a joke?

Next time, we delve into the releases of our friend, Dr. Ebbetts. Overrated or just not Mirror Spock? We'll look into it next time on Beatles Bootleg Reviews!

Gone to lunch probably.

Some fast reviews.

Last Flight is very good, one of the most interesting live bootlegs, with a unique set of songs, wish he would still do some of them live, "Getting Closer", "No Words".I've got it on cheap cd-r, instead of Vigotone's expensive cd-r, but I think I need a replacement.

The Lost McCartney Album I need to get, I've got most on mp3, and the sound is not really good lots of noise, I asume it's that way on the bootleg. But A, I want to be complete and B, I actually like some of these "Unbelievable Experience", "Mr. H Atom", "All you Horse riders" and that crazy sound.

Wings from the Wings
I dunno, I guess I setle for "Wings over America"

The making of James Paul McCartney
Do you have the version by Midnight Beat, cause that is the most complete one. I would be actually a great bootleg, if Linda wasn't clicking her way throughout the songs. No I don't have it, I was standing in a bootleg store, listening to it, and I got crazy from all the clicks. Having had my share of bootlegs already I passed it on. "Live and Let Die" from the "In Laws" soundtrack is all you ever need concerning the James Paul t.v. show.

That is it from me, if I feel like it I will put up my version of The one and only beatleg review. images/icons/wink.gif with a review of something I don't know yet.

As for the Dr. sorry Joel I rather stay away from him, but go ahead with reviewing them.

I don't know however what most complete is supose to mean, as on the Midnight Beat release both "Big Barn Bed" and "My Love" is missing, there is a track called "Live and Let Die intro takes 1-3".Does this mean that the complete "Live at let die isn't on the cd? So you probably have got the Midnight Beat version of the James Paul McCartney show.

Its amazing what companies will release as a 'Beatles' related bootleg.
OK, I'll admit, "All You Horseriders" is not bad, I just find that it didnt fit the album overall. And so it didnt.
And as for the Dr., I may not like him either...you'll just have to find out! images/icons/wink.gif

I adore Voxx's Lost McCartney Album! Mr H Atom sounds like a B-52s song. And that's a compliment!

I think the only JPM Special-related boots I have (besides an mpeg of the show) is Yellow Cat's Backyard+. Ha, I'm listening to it right now and the clicking is so irritating, thanks for pointing it out! images/icons/wink.gif

So are you guys saying that there's no complete bootleg of the music from the show?

What does this mean, David?

Next time, we delve into the releases of our friend, Dr. Ebbetts. Overrated or just not Mirror Spock? <font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">Mirror Spock doesn't have the following or admiration Ebbetts does. Legs, why do you stay away from Ebbetts? I thought you were into the differnt vinyl variations n' stuff. I've just got his mono White Album and a couple Capitol albums. They're no big deal to me.

There have indeed been boots of the actual music on the show, but as far as 'making of outtakes', theres not much of it. Nothing interesting anyway. I'm amazed theyve never officially released that "James Paul McCartney" special in any way. Even the footage used in "Wingspan" was of bad quality; I've got better on VHS taped off PBS in the late 80s!
