My MI: I wanted to watch Help!, but we got stuck watching Ice Age for the bazillionth time. I love birds of prey. Even buzzards. Don't ever dis a buzzard. That bird is just doing its job, cleaning up roadkill and other deceased animals. If it weren't for our avian scavengers, we'd have a germier and nastier world.

Never dis a buzzard. They perform a real service. Swainson's Buzzards are beautiful scavenging raptors that look more like falcons.

The Old World Vultures are ugly birds, what with their wrinkled necks, black feathers and bald heads. Ugly birds need love too, so just remember that!

I saw the first movie a year or two ago. It was okay, but I could not get into the whole craze. Then recently my old roommate lent me all the books because apparently the story is much better in the novels.

Well, at least you have a date.

That's true... sort of. Neither of us has verbally expressed the desire to be more than just friends, so I'm not sure if I consider it a date or not. She's certainly shown "signs" of interest (we hang out; she bought me a gift [THE BEATLES MONOPOLY!] but not near b-day or Christmas; several instances of her touching my arm or knee; cute stuff like that), but I've had too many instances where I thought a girl was interested and it turned out that she's just naturally flirty & just wants to be my friend.

Another problem is that she's trying to get into the military, thus she'd be leaving the area... sigh... :sad3:

I really cannot abide that rude, strident Flo on those annoying Progressive commercials. I can't stand her rude abrasive voice; her hideous coiffure and the way the man playing the part of the customer is told that he does not get points for agreeing with her. I don't like the way she raised his expectations only to respond in a rude way. She has all the appeal of a graphic description of supporating carbuncles.

I always said that voicing agreement marginalizes people and nobody likes a toady. I don't like the message - agreeing with someone in a sycophantic fashion and for personal gain. Miss Flo is for the birds.

I can't stand stupid questions with self contained answers.

I hate it when people ask something when it is so obvious that they are seeking a scripted answer.

This is an old peeve. As a child, I hated "who do you think you are" with the heat of infinity suns. I invariably responded, "I already KNOW who I am!" When people ask this stupidass question, just what answer are they looking for?

Boy, that one made me so :angry6: :angry1: One of adulthood's many advantages is that you don't get asked that stupid question. Still, I wonder what the asker is expecting you say? Good grief!

Failed two classes. I'm retaking one this summer online.

I hate how I was this semester...I made the BIGGEST mistake of my life and it affected me emotionally, my grades, and my relationships with other people...I wish I had never met him...this wouldn't have happened. But some people are saying that I might be able to help someone get out of a similar situation someday.

My dad isn't really totally understanding me right now, but I KNOW that I screwed up and it WILL NOT happen again. I will be cracking down next semester. This summer away from school will be good for me. He is nowhere near me; I will be planning time for myself, as well as getting a job and such. I think this will be the summer of re-prioritizing and re-focusing and analyzing what went wrong and making sure not to make those same mistakes again if I'm ever in another relationship (even though the majority was not my fault). I will also be consulting my doctor to see if I need to get professional help.

I need this time off to cool down and relax.

She is in her 70's and has a lot of medical probs. so she needs a lot of help. The thing is, she lives in a 1 bedroom apt. right above us so now we have to get rid of a lot of our stuff as well as a lot of hers to make us all fit into 1 place. I am really dreading the next month and a half.

Luckily the apt. we're moving into is in the same building where we are now. It's just a matter of moving things from the second and third floor down to the first floor.

My MI.... We are in the middle of a strange heat wave here and I can't put my air conditioners in. We're moving starting next week so it would be pointless. Just have to sweat it out I guess.

For those of you who haven't seen on Facebook, I lost my job on Monday. I was told it was for financial reasons, which makes sense, but I can't help but think it may have been for a different reason. If I go in there and find that they hired someone else, I'm going to be really hurt. My dad and I are both now out of work and it's sort of depressing. He is much more optimistic about than I am, however. Maybe this was for the best in the long run, but for now I still feel pretty poopy.

Noooooooo!

Hollywood director Guillermo del Toro said Monday that production delays have forced him to quit the planned film version of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit," a two-part prequel to New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson's blockbuster trilogy "Lord of the Rings."

"In light of ongoing delays in the setting of a start date for filming The Hobbit, I am faced with the hardest decision of my life," del Toro told a "Lord of the Rings" fan website.

"After nearly two years of living, breathing and designing a world as rich as Tolkien's Middle Earth, I must, with great regret, take leave from helming these wonderful pictures," he said, noting the film still hadn't been given the green light by MGM, the struggling Hollywood studio.
Are we ever going to see a Hobbit movie?

Sorry to hear, Marms - Hope something bigger and better comes your way. Good luck to dad, too - what sort of work does he do?
He's been a laborer for like twenty-five years or so. Plumbing, demolition, construction, painting, etc. He's a pretty skilled at what he does and he's a good networker, it's just that no one's really hiring at the moment. We thought things would pick up in the summer but so far he hasn't found anything. He's a year or so shy of retirement, but he enjoys working.

Thanks for all the well-wishes, everyone. I've been feeling better about everything. Luckily my unemployment came around graduation season and I've been making a small income from the cards I've been receiving. :laugh5:

On an unrelated note, right now I'm feeling a really intense longing for certain people who have completely dropped out of my life. Some of them haven't exchanged words with me in years. At this point I don't know why I still care at all about how they are or what they're doing because they've made no effort to keep in touch with me. And I don't know what I did that made them just suddenly stop wanting to be in contact with me . I know, I know - people fall out with each other. But in all the cases in question the cut off was sudden, not gradual. Ugh. I don't know. I just keep listening to the same song over and over and each time it replays it makes me feel even more awful about it. It hurts to still care about these people and be basically nonexistent to them.

*deep breath*

Thanks for listening. :blush4:

Marms, what 'burb are you and your dad in these days? I thought more construction jobs would be opening up, too, but the economy is still slow. If I hear of anyting, I'll pass the info on to you.

If you're thinking of old friends, have you tried finding them on facebook? I've had some luck with that, and some of them had been people that for no real reason, we just lost touch. Good luck!

Trivial, genuine MINOR irritants.

I really cannot stand the expression "full ride" meaning a full scholarship. I think it sounds VERY lowbrow.

I don't like rhetorical questions and just don't get the point of them. I think they are a total waste of time.

I hate the car commercial jingle with "still the leader" as it is overplayed and damned annoying.

National American University's jingle irks the hell out of me.

We're living in Lombard, but he's more than okay with commuting. Thanks for being on the look-out!

Oh, and I have found these friends on Facebook, but sometimes that isn't enough still. One of them deletes the comments I put on their wall and doesn't respond to messages I send. Another refused to confirm my friendship request for months, and then when they finally did, they deleted me after like two weeks. I don't get it. I guess I'll just have to learn that I can't be friends with everyone. :sad1:

Another silly peeve. I hate the word "Parthenon" and at 8, I said "That's a bad word in Greek, so I'm not going to say it." I still hate the sound of it, though. I think it has an especially foul sound.

Florence Nightingale's sister had that atrocious name and the equally atrocious nickname of Parthe. (Their dad was a Greco-Roman and Antiquities scholar). The poor kid! I hope she had it changed! I think that is a FOUL name!

I don't like the word "sump" because it is all too often used in a negative way about a person, e.g. "helping Joe is a sump on your time," "doing this extra work for Bob is a sump on your time," etc. I don't like the expression "~ has a life/they have lives" because the implicit meaning is that THEIR lives are more important than the recipient of this shitty expression.

I hate "full ride." That sounds just plain CRASS. Just say "full scholarship." That sounds much more classy.

It is hard to turn off you mind, but one thing you might try is to take the situation you're worrying about and think of the positives of that situation.
Another trick, but also hard to do (at first, anyway)is the tell yourself that you are emptying your mind and you are thinking of nothing, you are inviting sleep in and nothing else. Sounds weird, but I have found it to work.
