IN the week the late George Harrison would have celebrated his 67th birthday this never-before seen photo shows him at the age of six.

The photo is one of a rare collection showing him during his years at Dovedale School, Mossley Hill, thought to have been taken in 1949/50.

George is sat on the back row, second from the left.

It is taken from David Bedford’s book “Liddypool: The Birthplace of the Beatles” which includes other rare photos and official records.

Mr Bedford – who moved to Dingle from Guildford with his family aged four and attended Ringo’s old primary school St Silas – spent more than 10 years compiling the book.

It concentrates solely on The Beatles and their hometown of Liverpool, covering their rise from birth and childhood in the 1940s and obscurity, to their triumphant civic reception at in Liverpool in July 1964.

He managed to find the rare photos after digging in the old school archives, as his daughters attend the school.

The book also includes records showing George joining Dovedale on April 19 1948 and that his parents excluded him from daily religious assembly.

Fans of Harrison marked his birthday around the world yesterday with members of Liverpool Beatles Appreciation Society laying flowers at the Beatles statue in Cavern Walks.

Boy, you really CAN see Harold Sr. all over George in that picture! He even had Beatle coiffure in those days (Harold Sr. provided him with the wavy hair. By the time George hit the terrible teens, he let his beautiful hair grow and it was wavy)! Always intense, was George.

Great find, Lucy! Thank you! :smile1: :thumbu2: :beer1:

Very nice picture! George was instantly recognizable, with the French intensity blazing from his deep set Harrison eyes.

Good thing he was smiling. George had a beautiful Franco-Harrison smile, a nice trait that linked maternal and paternal inheritances.

Cute objectively speaking or because it's the future wavy haired wonder George?

Say GGirl, what if you didn't know that was George Harrison the future Beatle and you just saw this albeit cute school picture. I'd be curious as to what we all would say and think in that case.

Boy, you can see Harold Sr. making a guest appearance in George's face (and later in his thick wavy hair)!

The boy next to George on the far left is a looker.

And the boy on the far end of the back row reminds me a tiny bit of Ringo in his boyhood photos!! anyone else see that?

I wonder what happened to the other kids in the photo, and how many of them even remember that they were in the same class as George?

George's instructors said their future Beatle pupil did not leave much of an impression. George was, from his own accounts just not into school although he was very bright and did not have to grind away at his studies.
