Are there any other Elliott Smith fans here? I became one upon the relase of "Good Will Hunting" and the Miss Misery single. I even named one of my twin daughters Adeline (the other is Caroline, Caroline No by the Beach Boys).
Favorite record is the very underrated "Figure 8", some of which was recorded at Abbey Road.

I don't know anything about Elliot Smith BUT coincidentally, I downloaded the acapella "Pet Sounds" this morning and it was the first time I've ever heard 'Caroline No'. Your post is my moment of funky Zen for the day. If you're interested BB1, here's the info and the link:

Thanks. I'm pretty sure the a cappella versions of most of the songs are on the Pet Sounds Sessions box. Which, I'm ashamed to say, I have owned no less than 2 times and sold both times.. in order to get $$ to get something else. Last time I did so was in order to compile money for 9-9-09. :) But, I digress.
If you want to hear Elliott Smith... here's a nice introduction. He did a cover of Because during the sessions for "Figure 8".

His biggest influences were probably the Beatles and Nick Drake. The latter of which he seemed to emulate even in death.

I am just beginning to get aquainted with Elliott Smith's work. I'll be getting a copy of Roman Candle when it is re-issued in April, and I'm planning to get ahold of his albums in chronological order. For now, I'm listening to the compilation New Moon and looking forward to further listening.
I have a friend who is the daughter of the owner of a coffee shop not far from where I live who introduced me to Smith's work on their house system, and I was mightily impressed.

I did some research online about Elliott Smith last night because like I said, I don't know his music, and bookmarked some youtube/music sites to listen to today. Thanks for the post BB1--always interested in hearing different stuff. Sad to see his promising career came to such an early end.
