I have two versions of 'Run For Your Life' (Take 5) that I've downloaded from the internet - one has the Beatles talking amongst themselves before the start, while the other has someone (George Martin?) saying 'take 5' at the beginning of the track: which is the real take 5? graemlins/images/icons/confused.gif

Ahhh, that's the trouble of downloading boots off the internet. Neither of them may be the take 5.

I'll check when I get home this afternoon.

On the Soul Sessions bootleg (sounds famieliar Ono?) there is a short bit of take 5. It is the released take, but this version is a rough mix, probably before overdubs were done. The version
is not complete however it fades early at 1:53.

It also includes take 1, which is a break down and is only an annouchment and some talking.

There is also a different bit from take 5, which is 1:17 long. That has the take sped up, also just a rough mix.

So two takes 5 are on bootleg.

Anyone think of looking it up in the Recording Sessions book? I'll try to remember to do that as well...

What is there to look up. I've looked it up and there were 5 takes of "Run For Your Life", take number 5 being the released one. The only thing on bootlegs are two short rough mixes of take 5.

The short version I have begins with someone saying 'Take 5' and ends abruptly at 1:21, while the long version starts with the Beatles chatting and fades out at 2:42 - if that's any help... graemlins/wink3.gif

Paolo, was the 2:42 one only labeled take 5 in the file name? It's probably just mislabeled if that's the case and there's no announcement. Either way, the one with chatting is a different take other than take 5.

Unfortunatly, Recording Sessions doesn't have song lengths. I thought it did.

Thanks for your help Ono and Legs, graemlins/thumbsup2.gif *

After doing some digging, it seems that the track with 'take 5' at the beginning is take 5 after all: there are two versions(?) of take 1 - one which doesn't last more than a few seconds, and one which goes on for over two minutes. It seems likely the latter is the one I've got, however I'm left wondering if the chat at the start hasn't been edited in from another listed 'RFYL' out-take which is just conversation...
