from a japanese bootleg collector:

"Hot news from Japan.
Day By Day vols. 33 & 34 were just released in Japan.
Of course these are not CD-Rs but silver pressed discs and comes
from Yellow Dog(!)."

I think this was already known to some degree, or at least speculated. Purple Chick/Dog of course released vol. 33 a bit ago.

I am getting volumes 35, 36, & 37 from a european high-end collector in a few days. But now Purple Chick/Dog sent out this announcement:

"...Purple Chick is able to tree out the remainder of the Day By Day "A"
rolls...There are ten discs remaining in the series (Volumes: 34, 35, 36, 37
and 38)."

(Purple Chick/Dog actually sent out their message before the japanese guy, but you get the point.)

They keep saying "the remainder" but my insider says there's more A rolls. He says, "...the remaining 40 discs...
What's not out yet are half of the A Rolls recorded at Apple...A collector in Fukuoka in Japan is now leaking the missing A Rolls and apparently the B Rolls from Twckenham have been out in Japan for quite a while (although nobody in the Western world seems to have been successful in laying their hands on them yet)."

so there ya go...

Well that certainly cleared things up. graemlins/wink3.gif

I don't care who puts them out, I just want the A Rolls to get completely released one way or another. I mean, I bothered to collect 64 CDs so far, and they were so close to the end of the sessions.

I think the guy meant that there are 40 A Rolls left, which would be about 10 CDs worth of material. I don't think there's much more than that left, I'll have to check when I get home.

He probably did mean reels, you're right. I've seen the artwork for one of the new ones and there's a pic of the rooftop concert so yeah, it must be near the end. Great, then the A rolls will be finished, yay! Now what? images/icons/wink.gif

Do you have all the Unicorn B roll stuff, Jerry? I don't have any of it and am wondering if I should bother...

I have the B Rolls that are out now. It's not the Unicorn stuff, but another generic Japanese Media label or something like that. It includes nearly all of the Apple session B Rolls (not the first few days for some reason), and it has nothing from Twickenham.

As to whether or not you should get them, that's tough to say. Until the A Roll series got going again, I would have said absolutely, because it was the only way to get material from those last few days at Apple. But now it looks like they'll finally complete the set. I haven't sat down to compare which camera was on during this or that, but I'm sure there is material on the B Rolls that isn't on the A Rolls. Somebody out there has probably spent the time going over this. If you ever find a list or something like that, please let me know.

http://blackalbum.cjb.net/

this has a list days and rolls.

there's a better one somewhere that lists the best bootleg source for each reel, but i can't seem to find that right now. it's a very unassuming site with light-blue background on the homepage...ha, too bad those words don't give me much help googling.

i've heard that they didn't use a second mic (to form stereo) at first because of the way TV shows were filmed at the time (or maybe today still too)...that there was no reason to have a second roll. but then someone must have figured out that they're recording music. duh. so no, those B rolls simply don't exist for the first few days.

i'll keep looking for that other link...

That's a nice list to have, thanks. You can see that the B Rolls do cover some material not on the A Rolls, like on January 23rd and 29th. The story behind what microphones are doing what has always seemed complicated. But the last explanation I heard seemed pretty good to me - that there was only one audio source for both the A and B cameras. They just recorded from that source whenever they were turned on, that's why you always hear the dude announcing which roll is which at the beginning. So there is of course a lot of repetition in there, but supposedly they tried to make sure the B camera was on when the A camera ran out of film. I also remember reading that on one day (I think it was the 2nd) they had two audio sources, and that's how they "made up" that A & B "stereo" bootleg that came out awhile ago. But on every other day, they only had just one audio source.

That site is good, but too bad it's not updated really. None of the B Rolls are mentioned at all, except where they're included on the Thirty Days set.
