Does anyone know a place to donate clothes for the people in Haiti? In the New Jersey/New York area. I have bags and bags of clothes.

I made a donation to The Red Cross yesterday.

If everyone will :help: a little, it can add up to A LOT!

My thoughts and prayers have been with the Haitians, I do hope this tradgedy brings something good out of it for Haiti, maybe it will no longer be the poorest nation in the western hemisphere, if all these nations continue to help them rebuild in addition to the aid needed now!

I got this e-mail from the Bill Clinton Foundation yesterday, which mentions in the link various ways to donate.

Rob,

In the past 48 hours, we've heard the heartbreaking stories and seen the harrowing images of people who remain without shelter, water, food or basic medical supplies in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake off the shore of Haiti.

But the outpouring of support is reason for hope. If you've already donated, I am deeply grateful. Please consider making another gift and encouraging your friends and family to do so as well. The most important thing you can do right now is to give money. Small donations add up to big amounts.

To see how you can help, please visit:

Yesterday I met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the United Nations to discuss the current situation on the ground in Haiti and the need for sustained focus through and beyond the immediate crisis. We must ensure the coordination of the United Nations, world governments, nongovernmental organizations, and individuals like you.

As UN Special Envoy for Haiti, I have been monitoring the situation very closely. What we need right now is to find survivors in the rubble, bury those who did not live, get medical care and supplies to the hurt, food for the hungry, and shelter for the homeless. And once the emergency is over, we can start to rebuild.

Together, we can make a tremendous difference in saving lives and sustaining them through this crisis.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your generosity at this critical time

Apparently there are also a bunch of links on the White House website as to various places you can make a donation. I saw the Red Cross first, so they got my $$.

Mluque, call the Red Cross to see where to donate the clothes. Bless you for doing this!

You can also call the local news and churches in your area to see where to send the things you have set aside.

Good on all for stepping up to the plate!

I got an email from Paypal today inviting me to donate. I'd be quite willing to give, say, one tenth of a week's income through Paypal if I thought they were doing the same. But I found nothing on their site to show they were donating anything. In which case, I'll donate to the Oxfam appeal, but not through Paypal. All it looks like at the moment is a good way of drumming up business for themselves.

There's an album for sale on iTunes, "Hope For Haiti Now".... basically, the performances you saw on the telethon (if you watched it, that is).

There are enough tracks worth my while on it, so I am buying/downloading it as I type this. 100% of the proceeds will go to the relief efforts.

I think this is a great way to "donate"! Check it out and maybe you'll decide to buy it, too - some individual tracks, if not the entire album. :wave1:

Call FedEx to see if you can have boxes of donated items sent. A woman in my area donated thousands of dollars worth of medical supplies including insulin and antibiotics.

I donated to the Red Cross through my local grocery store, they are collecting then sending it on to RC. I do hope the RC does a better job in Haiti than all the problems that surfaced with RC at the time of Katrina in the US....

Buy clothing off the clearance racks and keep the tags on the clothes and keep the clothes in the store bag. People receiving them will know they are getting brand new clothes.

Red Cross is not taking clothing donations. They are only taking monetary donations.

For those of us who want to ship clothing to Haiti, does anybody here know who, can provide an address in Haiti where we can ship these items? UPS is offering shipping for less than FedEx is for Haiti Relief.
