With the internet everyone can put anything up and claim it's the Beatles. This kind of practise isn't new however some titles have been going around since the 70's some still pop up even now.

From a Beatles magazine:

Have You Heard The Word: acording to the magazine it's a song done by a group called the Fut.
Peace Of Mind: Not a Lennon song tho I don't know who it is.
Make Love To The End: by Peter Cooke & Dudley Moore
LS Bumble Bee: In the 70's a Beatles bootleg has been released under this name. Again not the Beatles but Peter Cooke & Dudley Moore.

Here is one I ended up owing cause it's on an otherwise good bootleg "Anthology plus".

Oh I need you: The booklet of "Anthology plus" claims it is a song by John Lennon, but it's not the Beatles at all, probably the Ivey's.

Then there is the Day Tripper version by Jimmy Hendrix and John Lennon. Sorry folks no Lennon on this version of the song.

Unbelievable now but back in the 70's the Rutles song "Cheese and Onions" was presented as a Beatles song! We know better now.

Feel free to add to the list.

I have 'Oh I Need You' on 'An Alternative Anthology' and while it's plainly not the Beatles, the fact that it's given the same date as the version of 'I Want You (She's So Heavy)' that precedes it, coupled with the fact that they both appear to be acetates was leading me to speculate that 'Oh I Need You' may be by an Apple act other than The Beatles. Bearing in mind that there were more than a few acts on the label, I wasn't sure which may have been responsible for the track so while I'm inclined to agree with Legs' identification of The Iveys, I wonder if anyone could positively say that it was them..?

PS: There's a version of the Lennon/McCartney song 'Nobody I Know' available on the web which isn't by The Beatles - the vocal effects should be a giveaway... graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

I've heard this - it's awful. It sort of sounds like John, holding his nose, played at half speed. Sort of. graemlins/tongue1.gif

There's also a fake outtake of "Norwegian Wood" floating around - I forget if it's labeled Take 3 or 4. Again, it's the vocals that give it away as a fake. Also, instead of a sitar, there's some other instrument playing the sitar part. (I've deleted the file, so I forget exactly what it sounded like.) But you can tell this one's a fake before it even starts, because "John" makes sure to ask "Are you ready, Paul?" You know, just to convince you that it's really them... graemlins/wink3.gif

If anyone has a '70's boot called Top Of The Pops as I do, you'll notice the 1st 2 tracks -- "People Say" & "I'm Walkin'" -- don't even sound REMOTELY like the Beatles.

Yeah, I'll admit to being fooled by it. It just sounded like he had a cold or something.
