What is your all time favorite bootleg/s...Fabs and /or solo?

I will start with my favorite John boot, which is called Come Back Johnny. It has gems, including a brilliant radio broadcast.

How about you folks? images/icons/smile.gif

My favorite Fab boot has to be the very first bootleg I ever owned. (Thanks Jerry). The first time I won the Monthly contest I chose the rooftop sessions. Awesome!

Group bootlegs:

As probably almost everyone, my first boot is a favorite. It was a Trade Mark Of Quality "Get Back Sessions" boot, from mid 1970s, on green vinyl, in dreadful sound quality.

From the same shop, a few weeks later, I got the complete "Deccagone" singles set. They had wonderful covers: totally inapprorpiate pictures of the Beatles for the music inside. And the garish vinyl! But the music: it was the first time I had heard these songs ... and the quality was quite good, considering. I have the tracks in better quality now, but the feel of those vinyl singles ... wonderful!

Skipping ahead, my next favorite is really a trio of albums: the vinyl NEMS LPs Strawberry Fields Forever, Nothing Is Real, Not For Sale. There were other NEMS LPs, but these I loved equally. Nothing Is Real was the first album that I knew of to have several great takes of Strawberry Fields in great sound quality.

Lastly is another vinyl LP: 1967. This LP has a Pepper photo session outtake as the cover, brilliantly done. The back has all the words of the songs on the LP. What songs: 1967 stuff, of course. For example, Xmas Time Is Here Again (full version), A Day In The Life (oh shit version), genuine mono Only a Northern Song. It's really the cover I loved ... I had all the songs elsewhere.

Great thread ... Solo favorites tomorrow ...

I've only recently started buying Beatles bootlegs and the ones I've got so far are the 2CD sets 'An Alternative Anthology' (AKA 'Anthology Plus') and 'The Alternate 1' which both cover the whole career of the Beatles and I can certainly recommend them as a foundation for anyone who's beginning to collect beatlegs.

i have no special feelings for my 1st boot, which i bought somewhere off washington square in NYC. it was "more sweet apples" on Mambo Sun Records Ltd. it's not a very good boot. i just remember trying to find something that didn't have anthology stuff on it.

well, i'm really into the get back sessions right now so i sort of want to say that "Thirty Days" is my favorite beatleg set. however, for pure listening pleasure, i'd have to go with "The Complete BBC Collection Upgraded." although it's not their creatively best period, it is their best muscianship period. and funniest period images/icons/smile.gif .

my fave paul boot is "The McCartney/McManus Collaboration." man they sounded great together.

fave lennon boot is undeniably the lost lennon tapes. just about everything you need is there.

for george...easy--"Beware of ABCKO!" and my least fave is "12 Arnold Grove." yuck.

and i don't own any ringo boots, but his outtakes on "john, paul, george & ringo in the 70s" are surprisingly good.

And my SOLO boots:

I've got a few Ringo boots, but I couldn't say I had a particular favorite. The CD I burned myself of Ringo Rarities from various boots and downloaded material is the one I play most often.

I have only one one Paul boot, one of the versions of the infamous Cold Cuts. I have lots of downloaded Paul stuff, but I rarely listen to it.

I have several John boots. By far my favorite is a Chapter One CD called Studio Outtakes Vol 1. It's got some magnificent tracks, including a long How Do You Sleep, and a Cold Turkey acetate which is very heavy. I know Chapter One CDs generally left a little to be desired, but this one is great!

And now George. I have a soft spot for the two double-LP vinyl boots, Ohnothimagen and Somewhere In Utopia, which were my first George boot purchases. However, for my favorite I can't decide between Songs For Patti and Pirate Songs. (But deep inside I know it's Pirate Songs.)

Beware Of ABKCO is cartainly a great boot, and essential in any serious George Harrison collection. I'm just hoping when the Hari Anthology finally sees the light of day that it doesn't render my collection redundant!

My favorite Macca boot is "Odd Sox", a double album, close to the idea Paul had to release an album by the same name back then. It is full of the wonderful Wings b-sides which later ended up as bonus tracks on the CD's. Those are some of the best songs, silly and fun. images/icons/smile.gif

Hmm..by favorite, I imagine whatever I listen to most often. I'd almost have to say my own home grown collection "Archaeology". 10 CDs of the essential stuff, very light on solo. But as far as 'released' stuff...probably Masterfractions "Help! Alternates,Outtakes and Acetates". It has the mono mix of the LP, all outtakes and sessions, great stuff!
Solo...Johns "A Heart Play".

Tough one with all the boots out there. Still for pure listening pleasure I go for the two cd set, "The Alternate Versions vol. 1 and 2", no complete sessions it hasn't got all the important stuff but what's on it is esential and has great sound quality. It has got some early takes of songs like "Misery" "There's A Place" "From Me To You" and "Thank You Girl" the demos for "Bad To Me" "One and One is Two" and "I'm In Love", through outakes from the 66/67 era, "Strawbery Fields" Take 1 "A Day In The Life" oh shit version and odly ending in 1968 with the beautiful take 1 of "Hey Jude".
Again far from complete but all my favourite outtakes are on it.

Solo for John it would be the complete Lost Lennon serries cd-set.

For George is tough, either "Beware of Abcko" or the 3 cd set "The Making of All Things Must Pass" and for Paul, I guess the Bootleg "B, Sides himself" with some excelent B. Sides and rare remixes but I might think it over.
For Ringo not really a favourite or a bootleg I listen to much.

Great topic Hari's Chick !

Great Topic graemlins/clap2.gif

After having to make a choise between three bootlegs, I would say my favorite Solo Bootleg is 'The Making Of All Things Must Pass' which is a tripple CD with fantastic material.

As for Beatles bootleg, any of the White Album bootlegs, non particular.

Wow, it's tough to choose! I guess my favorite Beatles bootlegs are the Esher Demos (aka the "Acoustic White Album"). Awesome stuff! graemlins/thumbsup1.gif

John: I have barely any John bootlegs. graemlins/images/icons/frown.gif But at the moment, I'm really enjoying "Your Daddy's Here." It's got a TON of "Watching The Wheels" demos (one of my favorite Lennon tunes!) and some other great acoustic tracks from 1980.

Paul: Most of my Paul boots are live performances. I really love "Toronto 1976" - mostly because I don't have "Venus And Mars," so that's my only source of tracks from that album. graemlins/blush1.gif

George: I have to disagree with onosideboards here - I adore "12 Arnold Grove." Okay, sometimes I skip some of the "Shangai Surprise" tracks, but you just can't beat all those Dylan covers! And I'll give an honorable mention to "Through Many Years" - I especially love "Gopala Krishna," even though I don't understand a single word of it. graemlins/wink1.gif

Ringo: I don't own any Ringo boots! graemlins/cry4.gif Well, except for the Ringo tracks on "Through Many Years." graemlins/wink1.gif

i must admit, i don't think i actually finished listening to "12 arnold grove." i couldn't get past even one version of "shanghai surprise." i remember wanting it for the dylan covers. i'll try to remember to listen to it sometime...

i'd also like to add that another beatles bootleg fave is any budakhan (sp?) footage or audio. they really sounded like crap and i love it. images/icons/smile.gif

As for Japan, Walrus released a cd "Live In Japan" with 2 concerts one from the 30th of June 1966 and the other a concert from the 1th of July 1966. Haven't listened to the cd in ages. Don't know if you're interested.I'll get my tradelist up soon, and want to do some trades again in the near future.

Finally I changed my mind on favourite McCartney boot I'll go for "Last Flight" Wings live in 1979 when they rocked with songs from "London Town" and "Back To The Egg", great live cd.

Fav solo boots :

From George I've put together various cd-rs of my own collecting the unreleased songs, b-sides, and the like. I play these most often.

John: Listen To This Radio Show, 1974 radio show with John spinning some records he brought from his own collection.

Paul: An 8 disc set called misshimmisshimmisshim, it collects a bunch of radio shows about the 'Paul is Dead' hoax.

Ringo: With a Little Help from John Paul & George

Fav Group boot:
The Beatles Story, the BBC series from the 1970's. It's gear!!
