This is a multi-part .rar that can be extracted with the newest version of Winzip. File format for the songs is .FLAC (lossless).

Songs were captured from a PS3 to a soundcard via an optical connection.

Hmm... that's strange because I just re-downloaded yesterday, to have them on my PC as a back up to my CD-R's. All of my links worked fine.

May be a user problem?

The links here all worked fine. I don't do torrents so I rely on mp3 blogs which are hit and miss at times and not always easy to find what I want.

I'm listening to them now. So far not too much different from the standard mixes. They should have included the false start on I'm Looking Through You from the US version.

You're very welcome. Most of the pre-1967 material is very narrow stereo. SPLHCB game and DLC stuff has some real nice surprises that one doesn't always here in the commercial mixes. Giles Martin & Paul Hicks did a wonderful job remixing these songs for the game.

Where the remixing REALLY shows off is on the 8-track material. White Album through Abbey Road. Having a clean opening on a song like "Dear Prudence" is a godsend. "Helter Skelter" appears here with no fade out so you hear the entire take as it occurred, beautiful carnage. :eyebrows:

Also, the Abbey Road stuff is really an interesting listen. Particularly the AR Medley stuff.

This blog claims to have the RS material in an updated Volume 1 post, but it doesn't. Anyone know where to find the RS stuff? That's the main thing I was looking for in the Rock Band remixes, as I have long wanted to hear a really good mix of the album (though the remastered disc does sound good, even though it was never really mixed well for stereo).

I did find this forum, which seems to have a lot of Rock Band remixes (with versions that deliberately leave out guitar, bass or whatever). It'll take a while to wade through it all. Here's the link:

Aside from that, I like the Rock Band mixes. The early stuff has a very narrow stereo picture, which is probably appropriate, but the earliest songs do retain most of the impact of the mono mixes (I always felt the dual guitar intro on the original stereo mix of "I Want To Hold Your Hand" was very distracting, while the mono had much more punch). Some seem a bit weaker, like "Paperback Writer" (an early personal litmus test for how I would judge the remastered catalog).

It was quite cool to hear "I Am The Walrus" in pure stereo throughout, rather than the half-duophonic of the original. That one's a winner. "Sgt. Pepper" features the louder guitar of the original mono mix. "All You Need Is Love" featured here is similar to the version on Yellow Submarine Songtrack. And the "White Album"-era stuff here has a lot of grit. "Helter Skelter" (WOW!!!!!), "Revolution" and "Dear Prudence" really stand out. "I Me Mine" without the Spector treatment was a real treat.

On the first few listens, much of the rest isn't a whole lot different than the original stereo mixes, and in some cases is quite inferior, IMO, but I'm still digesting all four volumes. All in all, it's nice to have this stuff, as I always felt some of the original stereo mixes were a bit crude. Thanks all for the posts! And thanks to Giles Martin and Paul Hicks for all the hard work they did in creating some rather distinctive mixes.

Technically, you are partially right, and this is where it gets confusing. It was recorded on four track, which would technically make it a 'stereo' recording', but halfway through the mono mixdown, Lennon spontaneously added the live King Lear sample (so the BBC sample was never part of the multitrack). To keep it in the stereo mix, the engineers had to go the duophonic route for that part of the song. Hence, the final "Walrus" was never completely in true stereo, aside from the first half, because the sample was added during the mix directly to the master tape.

Thanks to the new technology, they were able to separate the parts and make it stereo throughout. I'm impressed with it.

The stereo MMT album always sounded rather sloppy in stereo, since an album was never intended at the time. The songs on the album were slated to be released on 7" vinyl, a format that was still mono at the time. Some of the songs didn't get true stereo mixes until the 1970s, when the Blue compilation was being put together, but they seemed rushed. Some of the tracks were still badly neglected, and still had the fake stereo mixes used on the original Capitol compilation. I believe the 1976 U.K. release was taken directly from the Capitol masters.

The Yellow Submarine Songtrack presented vastly improved stereo mixes of "Baby You're a Rich Man" and "All You Need Is Love".
