I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between the PC Deluxe series and Dr. Ebbetts is. I did some googling this a.m. and from what I can tell, the PC discs are mainly Ebbetts plus the singles/outtakes etc. Is this correct? I'm stuck.

I think the main point of the Purple Chick Deluxe series was to take each album, and put together every single official mix, along with every possible studio outtake or unreleased studio track that went along with it. Each set starts off with every album song (along with any singles released around the same time) in mono and stereo, then the rare stuff follows.

I can't remember, but they might have used Dr. Ebbets tracks for some of the more obscure mixes and releases. I'd say the 090909 box sets now make a good chunk of these tracks obsolete.

They also put together a few additional sets, like pre-Beatles stuff, Hollywood Bowl, etc.

Makes sense. Thanks Jerry. On a few different sites it was noted that PC gave Ebbetts credit in the liner notes as to their source(s) for at least some of the editions. I'll have to check Bootlegzone to see if that's listed.

If you want the exact info, then go through each release...

Look for the artwork scans, and check out the "Main Booklet" link. You'll find the source under each track or set of tracks. For Please Please Me...

I was doing just that while you were posting this. Ebbetts is the main source. Thanks again.

Basicly PC is using the Blue box stereo versions from Dr. Ebbet's and his mono transfers. For "Magical Mystery Tour" it's Dr. Ebbet's german vinyl transfer, and for "Please Please Me" the german version called "Die Beatles".

The Hor Zu "Die Beatles" and "Magical Mystery Tour" are two of my absolute favorite albums/CDs--they just sound so excellent. The PC "Please Please Me" is the only one that doesn't credit Ebbetts. Probably just an oversight, but interesting nonetheless. I wish I'd had the wherewithal to download the Purple Chick series earlier. I have such a huge smattering of Pear, Silent Sea, etc., etc., it would have saved alot of time not to mention money, but better late than never.

That's if one likes the 90909 recycles.
