There are a number of Abbey Road boots with Paul doing vocals on "She's So Heavy" but I'm wondering if anyone has a favorite best sounding source that they can recommend. Thanks.

We have discussed this a few times before here a few years back and opinions differ.

A very easy way is to take it from this youtube recording which in my opinion is not bad

I don't think that's Paul. I think it's John doing a run-through. It sounds like John before he's fully "wound-up", if you know what I mean.

The only time it sounds like it might be Paul is on the word "heavy". But in the verses, it sounds very, very much like John to me.

That is Paul, only one lead vocal attempt was made with Paul on February 22, 1969. Plus John's voice does not go up like that.

There is no debating whether it's Paul or not. I just have a crappy sounding version of it and now that there are so many boots available for download, I'm trying to find one that is 'best'. Serena, you seem to be a pro at these kinds of things, what do you think?

p.s. thanks for the vid FP. Mucho appreciated!

In my opinion it is Paul and indeed there are various parts where his voice just goes in a way which John just did not have.

I'm going to download a 'newer' bootleg called "And In The End" that has this version. I downloaded a sister boot last week called "Lord Of Madness" that has a bunch of the usual Esher (but cleaned up) demos and other White Album entries that I'd not heard before. Once I get it up and running, I'll edit this post with the info. Thanks for being my partners in crime. Y'all are aces in my book.

I concede. You guys know your bootlegs better than I do, I'm sure. Anyway, I didn't find it to be an impressive outtake. It's rushed and obviously still very much in-process. I like outtakes that present truly alternative versions, such as the "Anybody got a bit of money?" version of "Taxman", for instance.

There has been continual debate about this track since this acetate was first booted. It doesn't sound like John but it also doesn't sound like Paul. Although Lewisohn mentions this actetate in his books, it is revealing that he didn't hear the multi-tracks of this version when he listened to every tape at Abbey Road.
far from being cut and dried that it is Paul - I would love it to be him but it really is impossible to tell. The jury is still very much out on this one. We need a better source but this scratchy acetate is still the only version that has ever been made public.
