First of all, I want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts. It is very much appreciated. My son is in good spirits. He will be working with his doctor and there is a chance, a slim one, but he might be able to walk with the use of a cane for a short distance but that could be a year or two down the road. They're optimistic things will work out for the better. We were told that it is only a slight chance but anything is possible.

What gets me, not only do are we trying to cope with what he's going through, but his friends who rented him his place told us on the weekend they were moving. So the wife and I and my friend Larry had to go to his place and move all his stuff to Larry's (he is storing it for him in a spare room). Somebody broke into Al's place and trashed it. We don't think anything was stolen but what a mess.

It's kind of funny if you can picture us trying to move Al's stuff. Larry is overweight and diabetic and smokes like a chimney. The wife has a plate in her ankle and basicly only 1 kneecap and I have a bad back and need a cane to help move around. Talk about a comedy of errors.

Sorry for the long post but I am finally starting to feel a little better knowing things will get turned around eventually.

Things are starting to come around. Al got the news that his assisted living place is almost ready. He just has to pass a TB test (no problem there though) and he'll be moving in. It's not too far from us but a little too far to walk. T.G.F.B.'s (Thank God For Buses) LOL.

I was wrong about the above post. He did end up having something stolen. His mountain bike. He's not all that concerned about it though.

"Where am I going to ride it now Dad?" he asked. "Never mind where, what about how?"

Glad his spirits are up.

Thanks all.

Good to hear things are working out, Ed. Not fun to have things stolen but, if they had to take something, at least it wasn't something he urgently needed. :/

Things are looking up. Allan has been released from hospital today and has a place to move into (an assisted living home). The people there will help him with his meds, do his meals and laundry. He can come and go as he likes. His rent is all paid and he gets a couple hundred bucks a month spending money. That will likely go up once his disability kicks in. A real load off our minds.

We would like to have him here but he's 33 and doesn't want to live with Mommy and Daddy (lol). Besides, we live in a 1 bedroom apt and don't have the room.

Thanx Leo.... Sorry it took awhile to reply but unfortunately it seems they have suddenly taken a turn for the worse. My son woke up this morning complaining his foot hurt and after being examined at the hospital, it appears he may lose his left foot. There is no circulation in it and if the doctors can get the circulation restored with blood thinners and meds, they will have no choice but to amputate. We're praying everything turns out for the better.

Oh, my god, Ed, I'm so sorry it's come to that. I hope whatever happens that he'll have a strong healthy recovery and that he'll soon adjust to the new ways of doing things and all that. He's a young guy and there are still lots of things he'll be able to do and still have a full life. Good luck to you all.

Thanks GG. The doctors were able to restore circulation with blood thinners so he's ok for now. He may still lose the foot in time but that could be awhile and then it could be next week. Nobody really knows at this time. It's just a matter of waiting to see how things play out.

Glad to hear your son's responding to treatment, B4. Do the doctors know why this circulatory problem occurs? Good wishes to him!

They have an idea it was because of the drugs he did. Plus the fact he smokes like a chimney and refuses to quit. His mother and I have tried to get him to settle down, quit smoking and stay away from the alcohol but he is 33 and there's not much we can do. Just have to be patient. It's hard on his mother as she is still waiting to get in for kidney surgery. No wonder I've gone gray

That's true. You can't live people's lives for them - even when you'd like to! Hope your wife gets a time soon. Hang in there!

Well we just got the word that our son was released from hospital, including both feet, and that he's ok for now. There is still a chance he could lose his foot but for now, all seems to be ok. Now we have to see what the surgeon says regarding the wife when she sees him on Friday morning.

I quit smoking almost 4 years ago but after this past few weeks activities, I'm almost tempted to say "Smoke please". LOL.

Nah, don't do it, Ed! :nono5:

I'm glad your son is doing better, but it's terrible what power our addictions can have over us. Hopefully, he'll get through this and be healthy again. And he will certainly be able to tell HIS kids one day why you want to stay away from the stuff, whatever that stuff may be to you. (My dad has struggled all his life with alcohol, is 92 now, and can't physically go get it is the only reason he doesn't have it anymore.)

Please don't start smoking again, Ed. Your family needs you to be healthy.
(Plus, Georgie Girl has been known to kick people for such. :wink2: )

Have no fear. I've no intention of lighting up again. But I must admit though, it's getting really hard chewing on my fingernails without any teeth. Us old guys tend to get that way.

Things are getting a little better. My son had another bout of no circulation in the foot but Dr.s restored it. Again. And we got the call today, wifey goes in for surgery to remove kidney stones on Monday the 30th. We'll be going up tomorrow for the pre-op but that's nothing. The last time she had kidney surgery (about 10 yrs. ago) they had to pull her kidney out, cut off the bottom 1/3 and then set it in again. She was home from the hosp. 3 days later. I don't know how she can tolerate the pain the way she does. This time it should be easier. Lasers are more efficient than traditional surgery. They say she'll be home later that day.
