Has anyone heard the 27 minute long original version of Helter Skelter? Do you have it on a bootleg album? Supposedly, the Beatles were almost making it up as they went along. I also heard that the released version's "I've got blisters on my fingers!!!" was actually said after this recording.

It isn't on any bootleg (there is a fake one on one of those alternate White Album bootleg) or on the net. Trust me I would have known about it if there was.

it is documented in mark lewisohn's 'recording sessions' that on july 18, 1968 the beatles recorded 3 takes of 'helter skelter', take one at 10 min 40 sec, take 2 at 12min 35 sec and take 3 at a whopping 27 min 11sec, the longest beatle song ever put to tape.
they remade the song again on sept. 9th, (takes 4-21), with john on bass and sax and mal evans on trumpet. it was take 21 from this day that ringo screamed the blister thingy, not from the july 18 takes.
there is said to be no known copies of the long version of helter skelter.
also, the first version of 'revolution', recorded may 30, '68, was actually take 18, which clocked out at 10 min 17 sec. this was turned in to both 'revolution 1' and 'revolution 9'. the only copy i could find was a monitor mix with yoko speaking incessently about john and some rather silly stuff. . . you can hear the song in the background as the beatles create a musical maelstrom. this too is said to be unavailable.
if anyone has any idea how to cop these lil gems, please let us know! i think i have tried every avenue, running into dead-ends at every turn!

from an FAQ:

Question: "I've always wondered if the 27 minute version of Helter
Skelter exists or is it a myth?"

It exists.... in the Abbey Road tape vault. Take 3 (27 minutes and 11
seconds) was also copied for Paul's private collection, so he might
still have a copy. It's never been bootlegged, though.

Actually this was considered for one of the Anthology singles, but it didn't happen...pity.

I know I would love to hear it, but do you think the average Joe Beatlefan Consumer would want to sit still for almost half an hour listening to one l-o-n-g outtake?

i have never seen any ref as to this being considered for a single off of the anthology. like has been said, 27 mins is a LONG single, (would it be cos paul would wanna break the 'hey jude' record for the longest single?). as i said, the only place that this is known to exist is in paul's hands, and he has never made any ref to it at all. if i am wrong please show me, i would love to have a copy. but i don't think anyone on this list, or anywhere else, could say they have seen or heard this version of the song. jeesh, i wish this were out there to be had, but alas. . . it is just prob the last real beatle gem, (this and take 18 of 'revolution'!) anyway, i am afraid we'll never hear this, shucks!
