Time to review this cd, after both FPSHOT and me finally got hold of this bootleg released last year. Its full title is, East and West, Yin & Yang. Again a very good bootleg by the Yellow Dog sub label Yellow Cat.
The first 11 tracks are mainly interviews with George and Ravi Shankar, talking about indian influences, music. What Ravi thought about Norwegian Wood when he first heard it.It starts off with a rehearsal by George on Sitar from the film Raga, but most of the material is taken from the 1997 vh1 program, promoting Chants of India. You hear bits of Prabhujee, but it's mostly talking. To have a complete set Yellow Cat really should have included the songs that were played, the complete Prabhujee , All Things Must Pass, If You Belonged To Me, If You don't Know Where You Going Any Road Will Take You There, but the songs are out there among the fans, mainly as Mp3's. In fact FPSHOT had send me these on a cd-r, so to stay complete, if you follow this forum you also had seen the songs mentioned before, but to had it all on one cd it would have been nice if they were included here.
Anoushka the daughter of Ravi is also present, you can hear bits of her album, which sounds beautiful, but again you can hear George, Ravi and Anoushka talking.George joking, that he feels sorry for her, happy that she learned to play the sitar, but sorry that she can't escape Ravi.
Not a lot of music, but it's intersting to hear Ravi and George talking.
Most of the complete songs included are well known.
Again the Saturday night songs with Paul Simon, "Here Comes The Sun" and "Homeward Bound" if they had included the rest of the set played, at least I would have got it complete then.
Ride Rajbun from the Bunburry Tails. A song sung together with Dhani and Ravi
Mo, a tribute song to Mo Ostin, Warner Bros. chief.
Abandoned Love, George's beautiful version of this Dylan song.
The Rock Line Medley, and
Between the Devil and the deep blue sea.
Your True Love at Carl Perkins Memorial Service, is somewhat more dificult to find, at least I don't know of any other bootleg with this version.
also "Don't Try To Own Me" together with Gary Wright and "Here Comes Emerson" for Emerson Fittipaldi" are more intersting.
Not everything is new, and a few missed chances to give the fans complete sets, but for those intersting hearing Ravi and George talk it's a very attractive bootleg, with overall great sound and well presented with a 6 page booklet.
