a few years ago, during the peak of Napster, i decided to compile both Shea stadium sets and create my own bootleg. i thought i had ended up with all of the '65 concert, and then i added the Budakhan (sp?) songs as well.

anyway, i pulled it out again today and did some research on the song order, etc. i had it completely wrong. in my research i also learned that there appears to be no live audio of "act naturally" and that the beatles themselves embelished many songs in the studio later for the TV broadcast. in fact, one song ("act naturally"?) was a version from a sullivan show appearance.

now, on to my question/point. does anyone know of a true bootleg of the '65 shea concert? i.e., audio NOT from the TV broadcast?

thanks!!

the only live version of "act naturally" i seen is on ringo's most recent live album from a couple of years ago.

I dont believe I know of one, and after some recent listening, i believe even the Anthology does not always use the original soundtrack. Watch the start of the Shea show, Twist and Rut.. err, Shout. The sound does not always match up with video. Wanna know why? Cause its not the sound from Shea, but from the Hollywood Bowl LP! Why they are still so picky about the sound from that ONE show, I have no idea.

yeah, no kidding. i've noticed that too about the anthology footage.

the problem must have been that the actual sound from the show just sucked so bad. like the hollywood bowl recordings, only 100 times worse. they "airbrushed" the sound for TV too.

so, back to my original inquiry--does actual audio of shea exist in any form, either in bootleg or official form?

Well, again, I've never heard of the real soundtrack being out there. I think the problem was not so much with the sounds or screams, but (ahem..) the boys themselves. They were well into their indifferent phase by then, beyond that they couldnt hear each other at all.

so very true. by this point they really became a studio-only band.

does anyone know if there's good audio and/or video of candlestick?

I think there is only a newsreel from Candlestick, and of course Tony Barrows cassette recorded by the stage. I have a copy of that, and it sounds much like you'd expect...not great but listenable. The truly strange thing about that show, as the band finished "Long Tall Sally", they began "In My Life", then after the intro, stopped and abruptly left the stage! The audio sadly does not exist, since Tonys tape ran out mid "Sally".

wow, i never knew about "in my life." how odd. i wonder if it was because they didn't feel they could do that song, or because they were soooo sick of playing in general. they never did that song live, did they?

I never heard of true bootlegs of the Shea concerts, the Spank cd also has the sound of the film, meaning that "Act Naturally" is from the normal cd, and overdubs and songs from Hollywood Bowl were used.
But reading a review of the "Shea/ Candelstick Park bootleg, it supose to has the Candelstick concert in best sound quality posible. Anyway a good bootleg to hunt for, if only it was easy to find, I haven't seen one so far.

i think i saw one on ebay a few weeks ago, which was one of the items that spurred my re-interest in this subject again and start this topic.

so the candlestick bootleg is from a tape recorder on the stage? but maybe does it have less fan noise?

I don't know, since I don't have it or other bootlegs of the concert to compare, but if I find the cd I will buy it, cause it seems as it's the best around.

The sound is not bad I suppose. Not 'release' quality by any means you know. You can find it on winmx pretty easily. It is a shock when "Sally" just STOPS! They'd decided to do 30 minutes instead of 20 minutes for once, and Barrows tape was of course, 30 min. As for "In My Life", no, I dont think theyd ever done that before. Maybe it was a sign that they DID know it was the last show ever? We'll see about the audio on the Anthology DVDs, but remember: the TV version featured "Paperback Writer" from Candlestick (maybe that was Day Tripper?), this was cut from the VHS version.
