It's hard to chose. Beside the obvious Sound of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Water, and yes, I still love it however many time I hear it, A Hazy Shade of Winter is a fave of mine, The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy) always makes me smile. Punky's Dilemma is an overlooked little gem. I could go on and on and on and...

Well, as with the Beatles, I can remember when these guys' songs were "current hits".
My favorites..."Sound of Silence" (of course), "America", and "Kathy's Song", among many others.
"Kathy's Song" in particular has my favorite Paul Simon lyrical fragment of all:
And so you see I've come to doubt
All that I ever held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you
When I hear that line, I have to captialize the "You". To me, that verse sounds more like prayer than love-letter to a girl.

LOVE "Cecila" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." I hate it when people think The Beatles sang "Mrs. Robinson!!" Irks me. lol

Possibly one of the greatest bands ever,
I agree with the sentiment but I'd hardly call S&G a band. More like a genius songwriter and his sidekick. :laugh5:
Seriously though, in my view Paul Simon is one of the all time greats and is very much on a level with the Beatles as a songwriter. While he (and Garfunkel) lacked the Beatles' vocal ability to perform exciting rockers, songs such as The Sounds Of Silence, America, BOTW and The Boxer were amongst the very best pieces of sophisticated, intelligent pop music that emerged from the sixties.
I'd cite The Only Living Boy In New York and A Most Peculiar Man as less-celebrated but nonetheless excellent songs from the S&G catalogue.
Post-60s work by Simon is even better in my opinion.
Still Crazy After All These Years, Slip Sliding Away, Something So Right, Late In The Evening - these are all classics. And that's before he created the masterpiece, Graceland and its equally brilliant, though under-appreciated follow-up, The Rhythm Of The Saints.
I've had the pleasure of seeing Paul Simon live in concert on six occasions now. Nobody has a finer selection of original songs to draw upon for a live show.
How many artists could open a show with a song of the calibre of Bridge Over Troubled Water and then proceed to build up to a climax? That takes some doing!!
