http://www.beatlesnews.com/blog/the-beatles/200909081459/yoko-ono-says-beatles-coming-to-itunes.html

At aproximately 12:00 Pacific time, Sky News posted a headline with this description:

"The whole of the Beatles back catalogue will be made available to buy on iTunes, Yoko Ono has told Sky News."

Unfortunately, this news article cannot be found online at the Sky News web site. Only the article's description lingers in the Google News listings.

Apparently, it looks as if Sky News in the UK let slip some news they weren't supposed to release, and took it back, but not before the Google News bots picked it up.

What does Yoko know that we don't know? Does this mean Apple Computers and EMI will be announcing The Beatles on iTunes at their company announcement tomorrow? We've heard nothing but rumors and denial of rumors on this subject in the last few days, but now this little slip from Sky News puts those rumors and their denials in a whole new light.

Stay tuned, tomorrow is going to be an exciting day for Beatles fans!

Lucky you. Where is that exactly? I think its interesting how this post conflicts with a a blurb from NME that EMI was being the difficult party in the release of the remasters on itunes. We'll see tomorrow.

Europe. But it's still only 2:20 AM so the stores aren't open just yet. What can they be thinking of? :thinker:

Yes, it's kind of funny how all parties involved says "It ain't me," isn't it? Personally, I don't think it's any one person's fault but, with so many voices to listen to, it got to be hard to achieve agreement between them all, particularly since everyone's trying to protect their own interests.

I hope they never show up on iTunes or any other digital music service.

O Really? I wonder if theres a way to confirm that. I've actually heard denials about that. I've read that Steve Jobs is gonna talk about the new iPhone and not much else.

I don't know why one would mind. I mean it's just another way for people to obtain their material. I prefer the box sets myself and won't download the music when available on Itunes, but if others do I don't see the problem.
That said I certainly am not fond of the practise of having to download an album to get one bonus track that isn't on the cd.

I've little doubts that the Beatles catalogue will be made available on Itunes,
it doesn't have to be announced today, tho it would be the day for it.

Yoko might have spoken up to soon, but she doesn't have a problem with it and Paul doesn't have a problem either with the Beatles songs being on Itunes.

Me neither. It really comes down to personal preferences, doesn't it? I rather The Beatles reaches a larger audience, even if the music is in compressed form, than not at all. Eventually not even The Beatles can stay popular without renewing their audience.

Besides, sometimes downloading is preferable, like when you only like a few songs by a certain artist, perhaps spread over several albums. No way would I buy all the albums but, those few tracks I do like, why not?

That said I certainly am not fond of the practise of having to download an album to get one bonus track that isn't on the cd.

I agree. A despicable practice.

I hate that as well--I'm still refusing to buy Let it Roll out of protest.

I just don't like digital music in general and think that, with the Beatles in particular but this applies to just about any band--if people just pick and choose a few songs they're bound to miss out on some of the best work. I know there's the whole "I don't want to buy a CD that only has one or two songs I like" argument, but the problem is a lot rarer than you'd think, and can't be applied to the Beatles.

I remember a few years ago I wanted two particular Foo Fighters songs and was disappointed when their catalog wasn't available on iTunes. I decided to just get the CD and it ended up that I preferred almost every other song to the two tracks I bought the thing for. Had they been on iTunes that fateful night, I would have bought them and probably never heard all the superior tracks.

I'm not some idealist "Albums are meant to be an experience" sort of guy; I realize that the music business has changed a lot in recent years. But I still think iTunes and the like have done more harm than good and I love that the Beatles and a few other acts are still holding out from them.
