Sean Lennon and a naked Kemp Muhl (a model and his girlfriend) have recreated the iconic Rolling Stone cover of Lennon's parents, Yoko Ono and John Lennon, taken by Annie Leibovitz.
The below pic, snapped by Terry Richardson, was taken for the fall issue of Purple magazine.
Sean stays clothed, in the Yoko role, while Muhl is nude and curled up against his side. Unlike John Lennon, she even shows some nipple.

Well. Interesting, to say the least. I wonder what prompted that. I mean, who's idea that was.

Ok, that's freaking me out just a little bit. That picture was legendary, I don't think it should be recreated. Sean's girlfriend isn't quite the legend that Yoko is, so I don't think it has quite the same effect.

Kemp? I thought she was called Charlotte. Or does she have a working name for being a model or something?
I think that the re-created photo doesn't exactly look hard out professional and more like they were fooling around and just decided to do it or something. so i am surprised to read that it was taken for a magazine by someone.
not sure what I think of it yet. certainly, there is no denying that it is based on the famous photo of his parents so i am sure there is a reason why he chose to do it - he is very cautious about milking his DNA and I have always respected that in the past.

Sean is a whore. A talentless whore. But a lucky talentless whore. If he didn't have the last name and a license to create 'art' because of his mother, he'd probably be busking in the Village for scraps. I suppose next he'll be onstage getting his clothes snipped off or recreating 'Two Virgins' or going on about how "Yoko is bigger than Jesus". He was a charming little kid, but pukes now, and he should be ashamed. "Friendly Fire" indeed. God bless Julian for taking the high road.

This is not true.
And Julian taking the high road? has he not used his name but once, then?

I agree. Listen to Sean's Tomorrow. It's a masterpiece. :smile1:

I don't think there is a need for calling anyone a whore. Everyone their opinion ofcourse, but this is a bit strong and not really needed.
Besides I disagree, I see nothing wrong with what Sean does and why he should be ashamed. I don't like his music as much as Julian's but that's something different, I wouldn't call him talentless, and certainly not a talentless whore.
As for the photo, it's much prettier then the original :wink2:
I didn't think the model was Sean's girlfriend tho?

While part of me wants to just look at it and go, "Yay, boob!" I can't help but think of the inherent creepiness in recreating a picture that involved one of your parents being naked.
And while I certainly don't want the roles reversed (in either shot), it does seem like a bit of a cop-out to have your hot girlfriend portray your naked father while you remain fully clothed. Sean has no balls, no pun intended.
All that said, yay, boob!

The same intention is certainly not there. That original cover is a very strong feminist statement - the female fully clothed while the male is vulnerably naked. Even in today's more egalitarian society such a shot has a bit of shock value. Sean's cover isn't either original or provoking. In fact, it's as male chauvinistic as anything from the 60'.
Yay, Sean. You sure Yoko's your ma?

It's obviously still provoking.
Tho I don't find it chauvinistic, there is hardly anything to be seen, one boob.
No original it isn't, but still I can't see what the fuss is or what's wrong by recreating that picture. But I agree it has nothing to do with the original intend. It isn't sayng the same thing as what Annie Leibovitz wanted to say. She was disapointed when Yoko said that she wanted to go naked for the picture.

I'm not fussing. Much.
As an aside, Leibovitz is in the news right now and may lose copyright over her photos. Link to article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090905/ap_en_ot/us_annie_leibovitz)

Well she looks just like his girlfriend Charlotte. I think perhaps that quoted name might be another name she uses or something? I dunno. But that does look JUST like his lady. She's the one that he has a band with "Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger".
She was disapointed when Yoko said that she wanted to go naked for the picture.
I thought she DID want Yoko naked and was upset when she said she would rather be dressed? heeheee! I love it how different versions of stories are told and how different the outcome of the conflicting versions can be!

Yeah, I agree. It does not show any tenderness in masculinity. The cool thing about John's was he was secure enough in who he was, he could be vulnerable as well. This is just a "dig-me-I-have-a-naked-girl-who's-WAY-prettier-than-me-ain't-I-Hugh-Heffnerish?" statement.
It's eww-ey.

Also, this is one of the last, if not The last photo ever taken of John. It's taken on the very day John was shot. In most people's minds it's intimately connected with the day he died. So it feels rather disrespectful of John's memory, for Sean to make it into a 'fun' cover, that is. If he'd chosen any other iconic photo of John, maybe the backlash hadn't been that severe but, this one? Not a great move.

i dunno. i don't see it as the same somehow. and sad if he feels he needs to copy his parents in some way. perhaps i misunderstand the photo?

No. You got it. When people don't have any talent or anything to offer, they usually copy or pimp other's ideas/concepts, and the talentless Sean has tons of material to pervert. His father is one of the most famous people to ever roam the planet. If anyone else had a cover like this, would it get any attention? Probably not. He is running out of ideas, though he probably thinks this is 'art'.

That was kind of harsh. I think Sean is talented; I dig his Friendly Fire and Into the Sun CDs.

.... ahem...
1) Sean doesn't appear to have his father's guts as, on the original pic, it's the man who's naked...
2) ... and they say that Ringo's always "reaching back" ?

Sean's model is gorgeous, but that pic is meaningless. The John and Yoko pic meant something, it made a statement...Sean's does not.
