Hello everyone, I've been interested in tribute songs for George lately, and I thought it would be nice if we could make a sort of a list of all such songs and dedications and try to collect as much as possible of them in one thread... I know quite a few but there must be much more of them for sure.
So far I've come across Foo Fighters' "Oh George"; then "Light in Your Eyes" by Shania Twain, Ringo's one, and a little song by The Bangles which I can't remember the title of at this moment. :teeth1: Do you know more tributes to George? Or any songs dedicated to him or even inspired by him, perhaps?
Thanks a lot :kiss2:

Hello!
Light in your eyes is by Sheryl Crow, not Shania Twain
The one from the bangles is called Grateful
I suppose this does not count as tribute songs, but the covers of Bon Jovi Here comesthe sun, McCartney & Dylan Something and clapton's Isn't it a pity, while my guitar gently weeps and Love comes to everyone are direct homages to george
I can't remember by now any other titles

Paul played "Something" on the uke when I saw him in concert. He did a lovely tribute to George that no doubt George would have appreciated.

Although I have never liked Sheryl Crow's music and some of her songs set my teeth on edge, I appreciate the fact that she did a song for George.
Light In Your Eyes lyrics
Light In Your Eyes Lyrics
Something is happening
Everything's different but everything is fine yeah
This is the good stuff
Yesterday's only what you leave behind
It's only in your mind
You gotta talk to the One who made you
Talk to the One who understands
Talk to the One who gave you
All the light in your eyes
All the light in your eyes
No use pretendingYou never existed until you saw the light yeah
You're just beginning
You haven't missed it-it's all ahead of you
And you know what to do
You gotta talk to the One who made you
Talk to the One who understands
Talk to the One who gave you
All the light in your eyes
All the light in your eyes
Here comes the world and she is beautifully mysterious
She's got it all and you say "Give it to me.
"Nobody's happy
That's not the world I know inside
Where everybody hides
You gotta talk to the One who made you
Talk to the One who understands
Talk to the One who gave you
All the light in your eyes
All the light in your eyes
You gotta talk to the One who loves you
Talk to the One who understands
Talk to the One who gave you
All the light in your eyes
All the light in your eyes
Yeah, thank you thank you!
Yeah, everything great and small
Yeah, thank you thank you
For the light in your eyes
For the light in your eyes
Yeah, thank you thank you!
Yeah, everything great and small
Yeah, thank you thank you
For the light in your eyes
For the light in your eyes

Here are the lyrics to "Grateful:"
I carry you up in my arms
Hear you sing yourself to sleep
The sky opens up over your room
You sail into your moonlight dreams
There's so much more than we can see
There's so much more than we can see
All we are and all we need is
All we are and all we need is
All we are is all we need to be
Grateful, oh grateful
Grateful, oh grateful
I play this guitar, sing these songs
It changes me, instantly
Love is too simple a word
For here comes the sun in the morning
Suddenly happiness
Comes rolling out from inside me
All we are and all we need is
All we are and all we need is
All we are is all we need to be
Grateful, oh grateful
Grateful, oh grateful
I carry you up in my arms
Hear you sing yourself to sleep
The sky opens up over your room
You sail into your moonlight dreams
There's so much more than we can see
There's so much more than we can see
All we are and all we need is
All we are and all we need is
All we are is all we need to be
Grateful, oh grateful
Grateful, oh grateful
(All we are and all we need is)
(All we are and all we need is...)

Thank you, this is exactly what I meant. I just think it's very nice that George inspired some artists and that their songs reflect the influence he had on them. Does anybody know more songs that were written either for him as a tribute or under his influence? Or songs whose lyrics refer to George?
(I don't know why I keep confusing Shania Twain for Sheryl Crow and vice versa...)

Shania gets old fast, but Ms. Crow's voice is, IMHO for the birds. Buzzards, that is. Wait! Not that I'd ever wish her nasal, annoying voice and irritating songs on a poor old buzzard....

I consider it a crime :laugh5:

Yeah, who would WANT to be confused with Sheryl "Nasal Whiner" Crow? I'd rather hear a pit bull barking in the middle of the night and the train whistle than Ms. Crow.

I have the oposite version. Sheryl is - I believe - a very spiritual talented nice woman with clear lyrics and music and a love for George.

Ok, never mind about that now, it's just that I don't know either of the singers very much so that the names sound a bit alike to me (I'm a bit dyslexic, too, anyway), that's why I'm never quite sure who is who. But anyway, back to the original topic... I believe that there must have appeared a lot of songs for George throughout the years since his death. I can't say because I don't pay much attention to the contemporary music scene and who issued what and so on, and I'm not exactly well-informed... but I'm curious whether there are more such songs that are meant as a tribute to him or carry the mark of his influence.
I've read somewhere that Paul McCartney's "Friends to Lose" from his latest album is for George... is it really?

Graham Nash wrote a nice one, the day he heard about George's passing when it had happened whilst listening to the morning news.
"Lost Another One"
Just another morning cup of tea
I turn my radio on
and in between the static and the headlines
I heard that you were gone, we lost another one
There was a time we thought we were invincible,
That wed go on and on and on and
all along wed thought wed do another show
and write another song, but I guess weve lost another one
Let it slip away, breaking all the silver threads that hold you to your dreams
one day theyll fall and youll fly away.
After all the trouble and heartache we all go out alone
Nobody else can live your life for you, youre in it on your own.
and we just lost another one.
We let it slip away, yes we did
Breaking all the silver threads that hold you to your dreams
one day theyll fall and youll fly away.
Ive lost a lot of friends on this highway, so long everyone.
I watched them all sail to the distance
Like a setting sun, theyd only just begun
and we just lost another one
We lost another one, we lost another one.
I appeared on his 2002 album 'Songs For Survivors' which you may know will link to his amazing album 'Songs For Beginners'.
And, when you see the album cover, think of Let It Roll?

Jackie Lomax - Friend A Mine
I just lost a friend of mine
I hadn't seen in quite sometime
But he's been here in heart and mind
He was a friend of mine
Though I have some other friends
I won't see one like him again
Now I feel an era end
Yes, he was my friend
Now it's up to us to carry on
Play the gigs and write the songs
We have to carry on
Yes, he was a friend to me
He taught me 'bout humility
I just hope when it's time for me
He will be right there
He will be right there
And another one is
Keith Chagall - "Soundlight"
Very beautiful song, quite a Beatles atmosphere, listen to it here

While I respect Ms. Crow's pure love for George and spiritual side, I just can't stand her voice and none of her songs sound pleasing to my ear.
Paul's "Here Today" can also be viewed as a tribute to George. He said he wrote it for John, but I think the lyrics can apply to both John and George.
HERE TODAY
And if I say I really knew you well
What would your answer be.
If you were here today.
Ooh- ooh- ooh- here to - day.
Well knowing you,
Youd probably laugh and say that we were worlds apart.
If you were here today.
Ooh- ooh- ooh- here to - day.
But as for me,
I still remember how it was before.
And I am holding back the tears no more.
Ooh- ooh- ooh- I love you, ooh-
What about the time we met,
Well I suppose that you could say that we were playing hard to get.
Didnt understand a thing.
But we could always sing.
What about the night we cried,
Because there wasnt any reason left to keep it all inside.
Never understood a word.
But you were always there with a smile.
And if I say I really loved you
And was glad you came along.
If you were here today.
Ooh- ooh- ooh- for you were in my song.
Ooh- ooh- ooh- here to - day.

Mike Love wrote a song for George in 2004, called Pisces Brother
This is what he said about it
In March of 1968, I went to India to study with the Maharishi along with George Harrison, the rest of The Beatles, Donovan and some others. Both George and I are Pisces, so it was both our birthdays when we were there. They threw us a big party with fireworks and birthday cakes and all that. “Pisces Brothers” is a song sort of reminiscing about our time there, reminiscing about that magical time before things began to get a little weird. It was a very special time for me, being there with The Beatles, just fascinating, very emotional. Hare Krishna, gonna miss ya, you know?
Part of the lyris
"On the darkest, of lonely nights,
The Heavens shine with one more light.
And while the world below you sleeps,
Some say your guitar gently weeps."
It comes from an album which has not been released yet. On it is also a song called Happy Birthday aka “Spiritual Regeneration.” Recorded in India in 1967 with members of The Beatles. A really basic recording with pretty rough sound; just a couple of acoustic guitars and vocals. This track has previously appeared on Beatles bootlegs.

I've just heard Ringo's Never Without You for the first time and I must admit that I quite liked it. Had a very Beatley sound to it and I picked up the references to Within You Without You and All Things Must Pass.

See, Oz, it just goes to show you that not even the BEATLES could dodge the Beatle influence! Each Beatle included Beatle songs in his set list after they had disbanded.
"Never Without You" is, without a doubt the best song Ringo EVER did!
NEVER WITHOUT YOU
We were young, it was fun
And we couldn't lose
Time were right, overnight
We were headline news
Crazy days and reckless nights
Limosuines and bright spotlights
We were brothers through it all
And your song will play on without you
And this world won't forget about you
Every part of you was in your song
Now we will carry on... Never Without you
(Without you Without You) Within you without you
Here comes the song it's about you
Here today, not alone
With my memories
Life is strange how things change
It's reality
You played a beautiful melody
That keeps on haunting me
I can always feel you by my side
And your song will play on without you
And this world won't forget about you
Every part of you was in your song
Now we will carry on... Never Without you
(Never Without You) Within you without you
(Within you without you)
Here comes the song it's about you
I know all things must pass
And only love will last
I'll always love the memory of you and me
Take it away Eric
And your song will play on without you
And this world won't forget about you
Every part of you was in your song
Now we will carry on...Never Without you
(Never Without You)Within you without you
(Within you without you)
I think that love is about you

Thanks forever more for those lyrics BB, just makes me appreciate that song even more. I must admit I got a bit teary eyed thinking of that song and George and when we lost him. Gee, I really do miss our lovable Liverpudlian with the wavy hair!!!:angel4:
