Back in 1991 Yellow Dog released the Acetates cd. At that time it was an unique colection of songs, presented in the best sound quality posible. It was a reference for bootlegers, who thankfully used the Acetates songs for their bootlegs.
The songs:

1. Bad To Me
2. One and one is two
3. Twelve Bar Original (complete)
4. A Day In the Life
5. Magical Mystery Tour
6. The Fool On The Hill
7. Blue Jay Way
8. Your Mother Should Know
9. I Am The Walrus
10. Xmas Time (Is Here Again)
11. Goodbye
12. Something
13. I Me Mine

Today the outakes are well known, but they first apeared on this Yellow Dog cd. And for the colectors, this cd together with the 7 Unsurpassed Master cd's is an unique thing to have.

Now more then 10 years later there are rumours that Yellow Dog is going to release a new Acetates cd, this time a double cd set.
The first cd is basicly the same as the original Acetates cd but the second one looks promising, I obvioussly haven't heard it yet but here you can find the tracklists.

It looks like it's already out. I'll have to pick it up at the next swap meet. Acetates are nice to hear because they're usually just the basic tracks or even a demo. The only problem I have with them is that the sound quality is always poor. I mean, they're taken from 45s, and if I remember right, the kind of 45 that they press them on is usually a cheap kind only meant to be played a few times. Didn't they press the Beatles acetates right there in the studio so they could take them home that night?

I remember having read about this.

This morning I looked out my window and found
A bluebird singing but there was no one around
At night I lay alone in my bed
With an image of you goin' around in my head

Yes they often did that to listen to the recordings at home.
The first Acetates cd has a great sound quality, every click has been removed. I'm sure Yellow Dog has released Acetates 2 with excelent sound quality also.

Just picked up the new Acetates CDs. The first CD contains various acetates, with of course the usual "upgraded" sound quality. The second CD is a little strange. There are versions of songs from HDN and Help that sound like rough mixes given to the film producers to edit the movies. Then there are several more from the Get Back sessions that basically sound like the complete tapes of the songs edited for the original Get Back LP. At this point, I've heard so many different versions of these songs, I have no idea if I have these yet or not. All in all, a nice collection if you don't have them, but a little disappointing if you already have the old Acetates CD.

I got the old Acetates and by looking at the titles the first cd of the new one is basicly the same as the old one. If the second cd isn't really that special I don't think I'll be buying it.
