Did Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon ever perform Day Tripper together???

There is a BBC track of Jimi performing "Day Tripper." It was long rumored to also have Lennon on guitar and backing vocals. But if I remember right, I think this theory was finally put to rest a few years ago. Either the Hendrix people said it wasn't true, or Lennon was out of the country or out of town the day it was recorded.

I recall hearing or reading the same information a while back. I don't think they ever performed together.
