View Full Version : Why no "dark Horse" or "Extra texture" re-releases ?

Unless I missed it, those are the only two George albums (except for "Brainwashed") that still have not been re-released (bonus tracks, ect)... why ?

Speaking of "Brainwashed"... it's already been almost seven years since it's release and, if Jim Keltner was right, when once being quoted on having worked on about 30 (!) songs of George's in the few years before that last album came out...

... just imagine what an eventual "Brainwashed" re-release might look like (a double CD ?) !

Because we need a non-greatest hits/non-best-of/totally random compilation of stuff from four George albums and a few other songs thrown in for good measure!

I don't really see them reissuing Brainwashed, at least not for a while...those outtakes could be used for another album. No, wait...they wouldn't make as much money that way. They'll release a special edition Brainwashed with a DVD, sell it for $400, then release the DVD separately for $20. Maybe if we're lucky they'll tack on "Horse to the Water" as a bonus track.

I have not seen any reports about those two albums regarding a re-release and I look around almost every day.

As for Brainwashed; I do not believe that all the songs which are still out there - which I think are 30 + since George and Dhani over the years made suggestions which go beyond 30 - would suddenly appear on a new Brainwashed release.

As much as I so much like to have them.

Well, I wasn't meaning ALL the "Brainwashed" session songs, but just enough to make an eventual re-release worth it.

As for "Dark Horse" not being re-released, that means that "I don't care anymore" has yet to be made available on CD...

Spaking of which, is it just me, or is it just a bit of a rip-off that, if one had EVERY single George album, one still has to buy the 1970-1975 compilation, to have "Bangladesh" ?

I guess that one could make the same case for "Poor little girl", "Cockamamie business" and "Cheer down", but those were actually first released on the second compilation, to begin with.

Then again, Paul's "Live and let die" (and "Junior's Farm") and John's "Give peace a chance" and "Cold Turkey" are also available only on compilations, not amongst the bonus tracks of their re-released albums... anything for an extra dollar...

In some cases it does not matter to me where I have the song from. I have Bangla Desh and I Don't Care Anymore as a single and on a few bootlegs.

Same goes for Sat Singing, Lay His Head and Flying Hour as example.

I quite like it that way, as long as you have it all.

To have Poor Little Girl and the others on a new disc would be ok but not necessary.

Most of the music I play from the computer and in some cases I do not really care if the song I play comes from an original CD or from a download. It's 2009.

There are plenty of artists of whom there are about 15 or more greatest hits albums or other compilations where you end up having the same songs over and over again which makes it a puzzle.

I've been waiting for those two reissues as well.

And you wondered why I created a database for all my music, FP? :devious:

Those two albums are by far Georges weakest and that could have a lot to do with not re releasing them

Olivia talks about the remastering of Dark Horse:

Will there be a Volume Two of the greatest hits? There are omissions here like 'Dark Horse' or 'Crackerbox Palace.'

With 'Dark Horse,' I will remaster that, but there's a lot of peripheral material to that and I don't want to just do the album and put it out without everything ... There's photographs, there's artwork, there are a lot of things that could go into that to make it a really nice package. But to actually put the music out because they fans want it ... if they wait, I can make it better.

Although the interviewer asks about the song, Olivia replies with the album.

How long ago did she say that ?

4 weeks ago in an interview at Chris Carter's Breakfast With The Beatles radio show.

There's a lot of material, audio and video, which sometimes just comes from a cassette or a file and is suddenly found, which needs to be worked on, so she feels - and I agree - it would be a waste to release some half finished idea.

A half finished idea is sometimes better than the ELO touch:afraid2:

The ELO touch you can hear on Rising Sun, Pisces Fish, When We Was Fab, murky production that should never have been allowed

The ELO touch you can hear on Rising Sun, Pisces Fish, When We Was Fab

I hoped you might say that :laugh5: , well that part of your post.

Well Jeff Lynne said in the Brainwashed interviews that George actually wrote the cello and other orchestral parts in for instance Rising Sun, but not only on that one. Also about When We Was Fab George said that they did it all together in the way that George wanted it to sound. Take "This Is Love" which is one of the best of Cloud 9 - to me - well most of that song came from Jeff and also there I believe there's nothing ELO-ish about it.

So..,.. shows again that all this ELO talk is a bit over the top huh. Listen to the Wilbury albums, Cloud 9, Tom Petty albums, Roy Orbison songs, and what he just did on the latest Ronnie Spektor album, well I do not hear any Mr Blue Sky-ish sounds there.
