This week in HIstory: Week of April 23: 1976, … Paul Ramon, better known as Paul McCartney, is visiting John Lennon at his Manhattan apartment … they are watching Saturday Night Live as the show’s creator Lorne Michaels offers The Beatles $3,200 to perform a couple of songs on the show … the two almost hop in a cab to take him up on the offer but call it off because it’s too late and they’re too tired …

Well, there's that.
But I thought Lennon (& McC) had stopped smoking that stuff by then.
Remember "John the House Husband"?

John said in the Playboy interviews that he'd smoke a joint if given to him but he didn't go after it (i.e., buy it to keep in the apartment).

Was John still a little Sgt Pilcher paranoid?

Has anyone seen where George was on SNL and alluded with Lorne Michaels to his offer for the Beatles to come on the show?

Yeah. That episode is on the SNL Season One dvd set. I love how George called Lorne's offer "chintzy"! :laugh5:

One of my favourite Beatles stories :teeth1:, I still sometimes daydream about how awesome that would have been.
Of course, I wasn't even alive then, so its not like I would have seen it anyway!
There's a great made for TV movie called "Two of US"; and it captures what could have happened the day Paul visited John and they nearly went to SNL. Its touching and albeit a bit corny at moments. I highly recomend it.

I've heard a few different stories about "what actually happened" during that SNL thing, so I'm not really sure who's telling the truth. All I know is that they almost did, but they didnt :tongue2: that would have been awesome though!

A movie was made a few years back depictng the meeting between the two that day. Yoko was away on business and had taken Sean with her. According to the movie, the two went over to Central Park, and stopped to have something to eat before smoking joint that Paul had brought with him. Paul had John convinced to go over to the SNL show and they were just about out the door when the phone rang. It was Yoko. John turned into this sniveling little boy and called it off telling Paul that Yoko wouldn't approve.
According to the movie anyway.
