View Full Version : Shadow

Since it is an unknown song, and if it's ever gonna be released it probably will be on a bootleg, hence the reason I post this here.

The songs "Grow old with me" and "Now and Then" both John Lennon demos where named as being the folow up to "Real Love". But also the song "Shadow" the title could be just a working title, this song was suposed to be writen by Paul and George. There was some talk about this new original song during the time of Anthology in 1995.

I read that Paul said about it "That's how we (The Beatles) worked we didn't just do "Lennon" songs" as reference to the fact that both "Free as a bird" and "Real Love" were both "Lennon" songs, and now the third upcoming release was going to be this new original song he had written with George.

Last thing I heard about "Shadow" was in 1996, the song was going to be released on a Paul McCartney duets album together with the folowing songs:

1) On the wings of a Nightingale - Everly Brothers
2) Private Property - Ringo Starr
3) God Only Knows - Brian Wilson
4) 4th of July/Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen
5) Mine For Me - Rod Steward
6) Let's Love - Peggy Lee
7) Pads, Paws and Claws/ Leave my Kitten alone - Elvis Costello
8) Ebony and Ivory (Remix) - Stevie Wonder
9) Mull Of Kintyre - Chieftains
10) Shadow - George Harrison and Ringo Starr
11) I'm not in love - Eric Steward
12) Hiroshima Skye - Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon.

From the magazine I have, I understand that these are all new songs or versions of songs with Paul McCartney and the above mentioned artists. So far I have only Pads, paws and Claws on a bootleg, which sounds more like just Elvis Costello only on acoustic guitar without Paul, and I know about the song Hiroshima Skye. I have long forgotten about this till I was browsing through that magazine again.

Any of you know anymore about the suposed to be third Beatle single and suposed to be McCartney duets album. So far nothing on bootleg either. At that time it sounded to convincing to be rumours the McCartney album even had a release number Capitol 70074. But after all these years without anything being released I can only come to the conclusion that it was all just rumours.
But very intersting ones...

Anyone?

Btw this must not to be confused with the Beatle song "Cry for a Shadow". Which was a Harrison/lennon song, also a rare combination.

I don't remember any talk of a song called
"Shadow", but a song called "All For Love",
written by the Threetles, was supposedly
nearly finished during the Anthology period.
If anyone has any info on this, please let us
know.
Thanks,
Me

I heard two rumours....

1) All For Love WAS going to be included on Anthology 3 but George pulled it off at the last minute, the 'A Beginning' Instrumental was quickly added (hence it also being the first song and a filler track).

2) All For Love was in fact yet another alternative title for Now And Then.

I'm not sure if these are true, but i'd go with no.1

Do you know anymore about this Paul album, or why it wasn't released? Could you possibly direct me to any sites?

Thanks:-)

Thanks for the info. But some books I have put 'Now And Then' as 'Miss You'. Like 'Real Love' and 'Girls and Boys':-)

"Now and Then" is only known under that title, I believe.
Unfortunatly I haven't got more information about that McCartney album, then what I read in that magazine, it is likely that it was just another rumour. Hope others know more about this.

Yes, I'm sorry. You're right. "Now and Then Then" is also known as "Miss You".

Okay I asked some Macca fans and they said it was a rumour started on the net and it took off when Radio people started mentioning it.

Thanks. Unfortunatly tho, but I thougth so after all these years there would have been something released officially or unofficially. Still reading that article made me wonder again.

Maybe it is a 'true' rumour though (hopefully!:-).

I wonder if Paul will release Cold Cuts soon?

I think that that's a wonderful idea, he should, and maybe the fairy tales stuff.
