I haven't seen it posted here so far, maybe it's old news to many but to those who don't know: the mighty Vigotone label is no more, its owner arrested and his stock confiscated.
A blow to all bootleg collectors as this label was usually a guarantee for quality.
I'd be interested to see if the name will pop up again, just like other labels which became defunct, at least for a while.
Does anyone have any idea whether the European Vigotone, which has been pirating the US originals (on silver disc), has any links with the US Vigotone?

Wow, this is interesting, and first I've heard. Certainly a quality label, it is indeed unfortunate. I'd like to find out more about this.

Probably someone else will take over, bootleggers can't be stoped. Is Pegboy gone to, that's a sub label of Vigotone or something like that.

Apparently Vigotone was shut down a good 2 months ago already. If you do a look on the subject on newsgroup archives (www.dejanews.com) you will find some details.
I don't know about Pegboy being gone now too. Wasn't Spank a sub label as well?
Many labels are linked: they don't do Beatles (as far as I remember) but another quality label, Dandelion (mucho Stones amongst others) is the same as, or became (?) Rattlesnake - a giveaway is sometimes their artwork, especially the back covers. And a sublabel of that is Sea Of Tunes, which focuses exclusively on the Beach Boys (the Unsurpassed Masters series). They're all 'family' so to speak.
As far as labels getting defunct and then resurrected again: Yellow Dog is one example, I believe that's operating from Hungary now (?). And whereas I thought Swingin' Pig ended long ago (mid 90s?), I recently was surprised to find a release om that label from this year - I think it was a Pink Floyd CD but am not wholly sure. The bootleg label world, it's a true jungle!

So I wouldn't be surprised if after a few months you'll find new Vigotones somewhere/somehow. Especially since the 'European' Vigotone seems to be something else than the US original.

But it's a pity, nonetheless. They were truly one of the great bootleg labels, with exquisite packaging too.
