Without doubt, the Beatles Ultimate Experience set. With about 3000 tracks on 9 cd's, it has everything you'd ever want or need. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/cool2.gif

This could be for any number of reasons: sound quality, song selection or sentimental value (were at the recorded show, 1st boot you ever bought, etc.)

I have a 3-way tie:

Beatles at the Beeb, Vol. 3 (Pyramid)
Air Time (Subway)
Unsurpassed Masters, Vol. 1 (Yellow Dog)

Wow, the old Pyramid Beeb set. That goes waaay back. The Unsurpassed Masters are also classics, but I've never heard of that Air Time one, or the Subway label either.

My favorites...gee, too many to mention. The White Album demos are pretty sweet, and the Apple rooftop show is way up there too. After that, any pure studio outtakes get me every time.

Jerry,

Air Time is mainly a collection of BBC stuff, but it also includes the complete Swedish TV show performance. I have it on vinyl. It's one of my faves because it was one of the first boots I ever bought where the sound quality didn't absolutely suck!

I have the version with the paper insert sleeve. What a pleasant surprise this album was! From the looks of it, I didnt expect much. However, after putting on the turntable i was shocked to find the quality to be excellent! The 63 sweden show is still one of my favorite live beatle recordings to listen to. And its nice to have this album since anthology only included part of this performance. The bbc stuff is excellent as well.

Review by: Charlie Hangley On Wednesday, August 02, 2000 at 12:02:10 (CDT)

This is one of the all-time fave boots I own. The Swedish show is an eye-opener, and it's good to hear the early stuff without all the screaming. Although most of this has been made redundant by the official releases (ANTHOLOGY 1 & BBC respectively), I love this listen.

i really like any version of "dig it" except the phil spector version. how could he cut down such a brilliant improvisation. down with phil spector!

there's an awesome version of dig it where john lists of all the songs that were supposed to be on the get back album. he's so great.

One of my favourite bootleg series, although I don't think as a whole it had a lot of new material when the series came out, is the 'Alternate' series from Walrus, which I like as a label anyway.
And I like the Odeon digipak series as well -I have 'em all apart from one, the Decca Tapes, which I can't seem to get anywhere after I once saw it and left it there because I opted to buy others - grrr.

On the whole I like alternate studio stuff much better than live material. Of the Beatles solo material, I love the Making Of All Things Must Pass box set (Midnight Beat), as well as the Alternate Lennon albums on the JL label - The Dream Is Over, Alternate Imagine (digipak), More Mind Games (digipak), Over Walls Under Bridges, and A Heart Play.

My favourite boots are the ones which has song that were never oficially released, or just as B.sides or special releases, saves one from searching all the singles or special Lp's.
Some of my favourite boots.

From Paul
Return to Pepperland,
With "Lindiana" some "Flaming Pie" B Sides and "Flowers in the dirt" demos
Another great McCartney boot is.
B sides himself
A collection of b sides and the unreleased songs, Yvonne and Waterspout.

From Ringo, there's one called Bsides Ringo, which has two songs that were on the Japanese "Vertical Man" but don't ask me why, were omited on the other releases. Especially "Everyday" is a great song.
The other song is called "Mr. double it up".

By George Pirate Songs, Beware of Abkco (Great to listen to the acoustic versions of ATMP songs, plus songs that never were released like "Window, Window"
Also 12 Arnold Grove, which has Paul version of "Abondoned Love"

(That's ofcourse George's version of "Abondoned Love" can't believe the mistake I made!)

I don't have one favourite John Lennon boot, if you want to have a complete collection the "Complete Lost Lennon Tapes" series by the Walrus bootleg label is the collection to have, but I don't know if you can easily find these cd's in the states.
For other great boots see Koen's list, but I have to say since we're both from the Netherlands, we know about these boots and they are available here at record fairs, but I don't know how familiar they are in the states.

As for the Beatles.
I'm not that keen on live boots. Love the studio outtakes more,
Antholoy plus is a good double cd, with some essential songs.
Love of the loved - the third Lennon/ McCartney original played at the Decca sessions.
Bad To Me and Goodbey - Unreleased demos. And studio outtakes in very good sound.
You don't get complete sessions, but the whole set makes a good listen, from the early days till some songs from the Get Back sessions.

Now here's a moderator for you with some knowledge.

Yes Legs, I agree about the Live boots, not much quality and nothing 'new'.

I also go for the studio outtakes.

Complete Lennon Tapes, well there is plenty of that round at Audiogalaxy's WinMX etc., and indeed Koen's list is good.

I have one... A Hey Jude (Beatles Again) Album, that has "Get Back" on it. Originally, or so I've heard, this was not on the record. Anyone know anything about this??? And, I have a "Yellow Dog" record "The Beatles, Get Back and 20 other Hits" It has one extra song on it, a third rendition of "Get Back" With Paul singing, and John doing harmony, George and Ringo are in the background trying to mess them up by talking very loudly. John and Paul keep on cracking up. It's fun to listen to, and I'm guessing, it's hard to find. Those are the only two I have so far. I'm hoping to get more!
