I found some songs by the Quarrymen and just wonder how rare these recordings are.
Many Beatles bootlegs are wellknown to many and also downloaded and/or bought/recorded.
The songs seem to date from 1957 and further.

From 1957 so far only "Putting on the Style" was included on a bootleg, it's at least on
- Putting on the style * The Quarry Men & The Beatles -.
The song "Puttin' on the style"
dates back from July 6 1957 (The day John met Paul) Played by the Quarry Men - Then: John Lennon - Pete Shotton - Eric Griffiths, Colin Hanton, Len Gary and Rod Davies.
It's taken from a tape which also has the song "Baby let's play house". I don't know if that song is on a bootleg, or on internet now.
The version of "Putting on the style" I have is only about half a minute, but is great to hear a song from that historic day.

FPSHOT, don't know which other songs you might have, but I believe that the song I mentioned above might be the only "Quarry Men" song to be around.
Apart from "That will be the day" and "In spite of all the danger" from the Anthology. The earliest songs we then get are from,I believe, the spring of 1960, at that time they were already The Beatles or Silver Beatles.
4 songs that are on "Putting on the Style"
"I'll will always be in love with you"
"I'll folow the sun"
"One after 909" and
"Hello Litle girl"
By John, Paul, George and Stuart Sutcliffe.
These songs are also on a bootleg called "The Antholoy Plus" Three more songs "You'll be mine" Hallelujah I love her so" and "Cayenne" are on "Anthology 1" and more songs from this time are on the "Wildcat" bootleg.
Then we move to "My Bonnie" and the "Decca tapes."

Legs,
Your first post; that song is there as well with that description.
2nd post, indeed I wondered cause it says rehearsal demo tape 1960, so that is after Quarrymen period, anyroad, it has the following tracks;
Halleluya I love her so
One after 909
I will always be in love with you
You'll always be mine
Matchbox
You just don;t understand
Somedays
Thinking of linking
I'll follow the sun
One after 909 (different)
Hey Darling
You must lie everyday
guitar bop
That's when you're heartaches begin
Hello little girl
That'll be the day
And seperate from these tracks which appear to be from one album, there is a longer version of That'll be the day and one Moovin' and Groovin'.

I tried to dig up some info, but other than Liverpool as recording city and rehearsals I did not come yet.
But I have to go to today's match of my football club, which has manager/coach Frank Rijkaard.

All of these songs mentioned above, including "Putting On The Style" (24 seconds), are on the Ultimate Experience set I have. Also included on there is an awesome early rehearsal session from April 1960 that took place and was recorded at Paul's or George's house in Liverpool (FPSHOT, I belive this is the one you were trying to find some info on)... the recording features John, Paul, George and Stu Sutcliffe and was taped by Paul's brother Mike. This came one month before the group changed its name to the Silver Beatles (they were the 'Beatals' at this stage) and all of the following tracks are from the rehearsal and appear on the cd...
Wildcat 1
Wildcat 2
I'll Always Be In Love With You
You'll Be Mine
Matchbox
Some Days
Cayenne
One After 909
Well, Darling
You Must Write Everyday
That's When Your Heartache Begins
Hello Little Girl
The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise
I Don't Know (Improvisation)
I Don't Need No Cigarette, Boy (Improvisation)
That's An Important Number (Improvisation)
Improvisation 1
I'll Follow The Sun
Hallelujah, I Love Her So
One After 909 (Version Two)
Movin' And Groovin' - Ramrod

I also picked up a "Quarry Men" CD from ebay today entitled "Open For Engagement", so it'll be interesting to see what sort of early tracks are on there as well.

Wow, unbelievable! Not found until 1994. Thanks for that Nowhere Man. Fascinating stuff.
In about 1957 I remember my grandfather, an uncle and a family friend all purchased large recording machines. They were as big as suitcases (or so they seemed to me who was pretty little at that time). They had these big spools of tape on top of them. Must have been something like this.

In 1994, Bob Molyneux, a retired policeman, rediscovered a single reel-to-reel tape he had made of that evening performance on July 6, 1957, caught while experimenting with a bulky "portable" Grunding tape recorder. Preserved on the tape were poor quality recordings of Quarry Men performances of Lonnie Donegan's "Puttin' On The Style" and Elvis Presley's "Baby, Let's Play House." (Interestingly, in 1965, John would borrow the opening lines of "Baby, Let's Play House" for his own composition, "Run For Your Life").
The quality of the recording is terrible to say the least, very scratchy with John's singing barely audible, but it is a unique piece of history nonetheless. On September 15, 1994, the Molyneux tape was put up for auction at Sotheby's. Before bidding began, the auctioneer played a short fragment of "Puttin' On The Style" for prospective bidders.
The historic tape eventually sold for £78,500, making it the most expensive recording ever sold at auction. The lucky bidder: EMI Records. EMI considered releasing the recording as part of the 1995/96 Anthology series, but even after the tape had been cleaned up in the studio, EMI decided that the sonic quality of the recordings were not up to the standard set for prospective Anthology album or TV material.
This was confirmed by New York Times journalist Allan Kozinn, who described the sound quality of the restored version of the tapes as appalling. When asked about the recordings, Apple spokesman Derek Taylor said he didn't even know what had become of the tape.
Bob Smeaton, producer of "The Beatles Anthology" TV series and subsequent videos, was slightly more forthcoming, saying, "If you listen to [the tape], it sounds OK on a cassette machine, but it wasn't really up to scratch to include in the TV programme. I would have, but it wasn't my decision. Yoko owns it, and I think she wants to use it in the future on one of her John Lennon projects. The longer you hold on to something, the greater its value becomes."

Yeah, I'm sure it would have been a recorder similar to that. It is indeed fascinating that the recording is only a recent discovery, and from such a significant day too (when John met Paul). There's also no other recordings of the group until a year after this date (That'll Be The Day/In Spite Of All The Danger).

Those kind of tape-recorders, what we now call huge and indeed size of a suitcase and heavy-weight, I remember them being rather normal still in the sixties.
We did not have one, but I know I saw them at friends with those huge tapes where one could put hours of music on by a sort of four track methode.

Yes that's the one I was talking about "Wildcat" it was/is the most complete bootleg from the 1960 rehearsal, I say was/is because I don't know about the set Nowhere man has maybe that one is even more complete.Well "Wildcat" doesn't have "Putting on the style" so the set NWM has is more complete.
