Well, I broke down and bought the first 18 CDs of a new bootleg series called "Day By Day." It's pretty sweet stuff. It's basically a day by day chronicle of the "Get Back" sessions. Roll after roll of eveyrthing seen by Camera A. Every comment, note, nose-blowing, argument, rehearsal, etc. from January 1969. Of course, some of this has been out there before. But this is finally the entire thing in the proper order. After 18 CDs, they're only up to like January 7th. I heard somewhere that the final tally will be 90 CDs. Unbelievable.

Yeah, the swap meet pulled through again. You really should try and make it one of these days. And the CDs were more than a pretty penny, and way more than the prettiest penny I've ever seen.

Well, I've been listening to the CDs every day now as I go to and from work. The CDs are divided into just 4 tracks, with each film roll being about 16 minutes. They are, in a word, amazing. To hear the songs being introduced, rehearsed, changed around, and then perfected reminds of those glass-blowers in Venice that I saw last year. It's like being a fly on the wall while magic is being created. Ok, that's pushing it a little. But it's great to just hear it all.
Off the top of my head, here are a few things worth pointing out. First of all, the myth that they never bothered to work on George's songs is totally not true. In fact, they spent an unbelievable amount of time on "All Things Must Pass." Of course, the song never made it onto the album, but by the time they were done working on it, it was basically a complete song, with harmonies and everything else. They also worked extensive on many other George songs as well. If anything, I'd say John got the short end, mostly because he hadn't really written that much material at that point.
Second, it's amazing just how many songs they had ready that would later appear on 'Abbey Road' and their solo albums. Almost all of 'Abbey Road' can be heard at one time or another. In fact, almost every song off the LP was rehearsed, with many songs being completely finished off.
Finally, it's interested to hear them discuss the original ideas they had for the album and concert. The rooftop show was kind of a last minute thing. They were supposed to put on a real concert somewhere, and they even discussed a show on a boat on the ocean, or in places as far away as Africa. By far, the most optimistic and "into it" was Paul. And on the other end, George was constantly negative about playing live, usually saying he didn't want to do it at all. I think in the end, the rooftop show was a compromise.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. By the way, do you think there's any interest out there if I put them up on the radio broadcast? You know, maybe like a few rolls every week. At that rate, I'd have enough stuff for a year and a half!

A boot of "My Sweet Lord" recorded by the Beatles would really be something to hear. That's one of my favorite George Harrison song. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

That would be a good idea for a RR broadcast,Jerry.
I actually have a few more than i though from the GB sessions-I think it's just the bad feelings that come out of that time that colours it bad for me.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw his post. I like that spelling better, but it isn't correct here. I guess maybe some of us wish we had lost the war! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif
When I move there, I'm going to convert the whole country to spell like the rest of the world, dammit! And don't even get me started on the jello/jelly thing. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

I do prefer the UK/Aussie/Canadian spellings for words like
My favourite colours are the red and white of Liverpool Football Club.

Wow. Next time I get into an argument with an American over spelling/s, if you don't mind, I'm taking them straight to you. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif
