Is this not just one of the supposed Original Master Recordings, which on vinyl have gone round as bootleg for some years already?

Just a guess.

I'd join a band with John any day, but I wouldn't join a band with Paul- George 1973

Yeah, I've seen the vinyl of these things for quite awhile now. But I don't think they're bootleg. I think they were legitimate releases. But what exactly does "Original Master Recording" mean? I mean, that's what the real releases were already. They were original too! It's probably just a way to squeeze more cash out of people. Now, what IS worth getting are the stereo versions of the first four CDs, and the mono versions of the rest of them. They made unique mixes for mono and stereo, and you'll often hear major variations or even completely different takes. But this is only for the serious collector.

Mobile Fidelity issued them in 82 under licence from EMI.
They are half-speed recordings taken from the master tapes and pressed on a high grade vinyl, inserted intoa rice paper envelope, and then into an inner and outer cardboard sleeve.
This is from the box set.

Thanks Tim. Good info there. But it still sounds like the usual reissue junk. Van Halen just released "Remasters" of the David Lee Roth era CDs. So naturally, Brett had to get them. I was with him when he bought them. We took them home and put them in the stereo. And you know what, I couldn't tell the difference. He said he noticed things here and there. But more prominent bass or drums is not a reason to buy every CD again. Unless of course you're a crazed fan. Basically, if The Beatles did the same thing - we'd all probably buy it.

I just remembered something. There's a book called "Every Little Thing." It's a great book. It gives details about every recording variation out there for Beatles songs. So if you're a major collector, you'll have to get a South African pressing of "Sgt. Pepper's" just to hear 3 more seconds in the fade out of "Getting Better." Ok, not really, but there are several things very similar to that. It also gives some great info on the mono/stereo differences.

Isn't that Mitch McGeary's book?
That is a great website he has.
