On Napster I am always seeing a rare live recording of Day Tripper with John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix. Did they ever play together? Should I take the time to download this?

The closest match I know of happened on Dec. 11, 1968, but it wasn't Jimi Hendrix. On the TV special The Rolling Stones' Rock And Roll Circus, John teamed up with Eric Clapton, Keith Richard (as he was calling himself at this time) and Mitch Mitchell (from the Jimi Hendrix Experience). They did a scintillating version of "Yer Blues"

There is a BBC recording of Jimi Hendrix doing Day Tripper. It was actually legitimately released. There has always been a rumor that Lennon was on the track, but I'm pretty sure nobody believes it at this point.

I heard that it took Jimi 3 days to learn Sgt. Peppers on guitar.

No Harb.
Jimmy only had three days in which to learn it.

Actually OFan, as far as I know, it remains publicly unseen. There is a possible rumor that it might be released on home video. The entire show was also recorded on a mobile four-track machine and the Stones had planned to release a soundtrack of it, but that has yet to reach fruition, as well.

I'm pretty sure I have the show on video somewhere. And I know I have the audio. It's a great take of Yer Blues, that's for sure. They also did a jam, I think with Yoko wailing away. What a lineup. You know when Keith Richards has to play bass that the rest of the group is gonna be good.

After John's number, Yoko took over. She and the band, including "perpetual violinist" Ivry Gitlis, performed a jam which later became known as "Her Blues".

It's starting to come back to me now. I also remember having a copy of a rehearsal for the show. Like a bootleg of a bootleg, if you will.

It's not John--one of Hendrix's backing people liked to try to impersonate John.
This has been discussed to death in USENET as well.
