The CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival 2008 has announced that The New Number Two will be playing there in New York on October 23.
Looking how they name the band I am not yet sure if it is the same band but a student from NY Uni wrote about it.
More info on this is to follow.

LOL yeah well the reports I see about it are that they have denied playing there but... there is a rumour going round from a 'source' that they will do New York in October or November. As soon as I have some more on this I will report.

thenewno2, I think, may be a reference from the cult classic show, "The Prisoner." At the beginning of each episode, Number 6 (Patrick McGoohan) would ask who this person was. The voice that answered back would say, " The new Number 2."

It is. Dhani has told on several occasions that this is indeed the origin of the name.
On August 31 this year at Breakfast With The Beatles this is what Dhani said about the name;
"it was sort of my way of trying to hide from all the ins and outs of being related to someone who you might not want to be compared to musically, or, in an ideal world you'd like to be but not right off the batt".
And about "The Prisoner"
"In the original series you see him running down the beach with a big giant bach ball "I'm not a number, I'm a free man", so we called our company thenewno2 because in the series every week there was a new number 2 as he was getting the information out of his head and it seemed to be the perfect faceless kind of name for whatever we did; design, photography or music, so whatever we do, we do it under than name".
The band members have been known to use dialogue references from this series when sending out messages and bulletins from their official websites :smile1:

Huh. I wondered where he got that name from! It's not the kind of thing you just come up with. I figured it had to come from somewhere.

During the usual online chat before the Key Club concert last Tuesday Dhani confirmed himself that the band will do New York but he did not mention specifics so that will come later.

I believe that's true as well.

Faceless. Aha. Hence that groovy logo. I am the proud owner of two masked shaped like that, courtesy of September Tuesdays at the Key Club :heart1:
