View Full Version : The Other Beatles Tribute Band

Has anyone else seen the Other Beatles? I've just come back from seeing them and I'm flabbergasted! What a great band. Paul and John were dead ringers for the real people, Paul was even left handed! All the songs sounded like they are meant to. Paul and John both talked exactly like the original Paul and John, and had the same sense of humour! Ringo played the drums like Ringo, but didn't look much like him, and I think George was only picked for his amazing guitar abilities.

Firstly, they played in collarless suits, like they did in and around 1964. Then they came on in the Sgt. Pepper outfits, and then finally came out looking like they did during the White Album sessions. That time Paul even came out without any shoes on. Perhaps he heard me shouting, 'Are you dead Paul?'

They finished with Hey Jude and the entire theatre was singing and swaying. They really had them.

If you get the chance to see them, go. It's that simple. A truly great tribute band. The Beatles would be proud.

That sounds like it was a great concert. If you go to the main discussion forum, check out the topic "Ratings & Reviews" and read my last post in it. The concert I mention there is about Beatlemania.
If you have never seen them; you owe it to yourself to check them out when they are in your town. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Harbidge, where did you see this band, and do you know how they can be contacted? I am looking for a good band for our festival in November.
Thanx.

I haven't got any contact numbers to the band, but I've got the contact number of the theatre where they played. It was the Princess Theatre, Torquay. Telephone number, (01803) 290290 I think. That's the box office number, but it's worth a shot anyhoo.

They sound like my favorite tribute band, American English. They are the closest you can get to the Fab 4!

I'm going to see another tribute band this Sunday. The Fab Beatles are going to play for FREE at the Princess Gardens, right outside the Princess Theatre, Torquay, Devon, UK at 8pm! I'm going to be there. Are you?

I've seen several tribute bands over the years. They include Beatlemania, 1964, Liverpool and Abbey Road. In my opinion, the best would be Beatlemania. Their act spanned the Beatles' entire years together, and played every song to near perfect pitch.
1964 only focused on the tour years and Liverpool had a limited repertoire. Abbey Road didn't even look like the Beatles but sounded close on many songs. For that matter, the "Paul" with 1964 looked more like Billy Joel.

I went to see the Fab Beatles last night. Blimey oh Reilly they were good. A big, free, open air concert it was at. They spanned everything and finished on the classic, Hey Jude. Everyone was singing the end.

Their website is http://fabbeatles.com

To the British participants - The Fab Beatles will be appearing on BBC1 next Saturday evening. Details are on their site.

OFan, yes they are very good. Sleepy and I saw them in '98. The biggest kick I got out of it was when I raised my Beatles jacket up for them to see. "John" pointed me out to the others and they all gave me their nods and smiles as approval.
It wasn't that hard for them to see me, considering we had front row seats. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

One other time I had a chance to see Beatlemania came in early '79. The publicity was tremendous. When the night of the show arrived, something happened. To this day, I don't know what it was, but the show was canceled. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif So, I'm glad I did get to see them when they finally did return.

Like bearkat, I,too, saw Beatlemania. It was way back in 1978 on Broadway. What a great show! Back in those days, my husband & I would go to the theater several times a year. It was affordable then. Broadway prices today are outrageous! (Sorry about the editorial!)

Was that tribute band still touring as recently at 1998? I can't believe it! Are they still in existence? (I know there were several companies.) There doesn't seem to be a trace of them in N.Y.

I wouldn't mind being in a tribute band, I think it would be a lot of fun. Especially if you got to go to America or somewhere!
But, all tribute bands seem to consist of 40 year-olds, so I guess I'd be too young.
On the other hand, it might be better like that.

I know the feeling LenMc. I'd love to start a tribute band but I only know a few musicians and only one of them likes the Beatles enough to go ahead with it. (You)

OFan, chances that the Beatlemania you saw in '78 and the Beatlemania I saw 20 years later are one in the same is slim. However, the four guys I saw did a splendid job that night as I'm sure the guys you saw were.
There could have been personel changes over the years, but the main goal was to recreate the magic the Beatles had back in the '60s. Personally, I think they did a fab job! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

Oh, 'kat, I didn't mean to sound as if I thought it was the same group of performers still going at it 20 years later. I meant to ask if it was the same show! I loved it!

If anyone gets the chance, go to a Beatlefest in your area and see the battle of the Beatle bands. The one I saw had 35 bands each playing one song. Most were good. Some dressed like the early guys, one like Sgt Pepper, some looked liked Beatles, others acted like them doing Beatle accents. My favorite was a guy in the John position and dressed like the early Beatles and giving the emcee sort of a wise guy attitude just like you would imagine John would have.

If memory serves me, the original shows had large screens showing various scenes and pictures. Something that just caught my eye, the "Paul" back then was right-handed and the "Paul" I saw was left-handed.
If anyone can find it, get a copy of the LP, Beatlemania. It was released in 1978 on Arista Records. The catalog number is AL 8501.
The members were Joe Pecorino (John), Mitch Weissman (Paul), Leslie Fradkin (George) and Justin McNiell (Ringo).
