I was in another forum, created by IJCB410, when I had a thought for a topic (sorry I glommed off you, JCB410).
Here it is: How many movies and/or telelvision shows that you know of have showcased, mentioned, or used a Beatle likeness?
It's amazing how after so long, the Boys can still be relevant.

Hmm, well, my one friend and I rented this movie called "Twist and Shout" (took place in Norway, I think--in the early sixties, where the characters learn about life and love through Beatles music. We stopped the movie halfway through because there was a graphic scene where the one girl has an abortion (which was still illegal then).
I've seen an Australian film a while ago called "One Crazy Night" where these teenagers are locked in the basement of the Beatles hotel. That was an okay movie.
As for TV shows? I know some that mentioned the Beatles, but they didn't have episodes surrounding them, like the one's mentioned above.

On a darker side, there's Helter Skelter, the story of the Manson family and Charlie's references to the Beatles and the "White Album".

There were many Beatles references in the show "Quantum Leap." There was one episode that took place on the day they came to America, involving a blind piano player...the Beatles were only tangentially in the story, though...
But the one episode I clearly remember that mentioned them was the one where Sam leaped back into his own life at age 16 and is having trouble preventing himself from telling everyone what he knows about the future...he was sitting on the porch with his little sister, and he sang "Imagine" for her -- several years before it was written! And then his sister says, "Well, Sam, if you know so much about what's gonna happen in the future, what's gonna happen to the Beatles? What's gonna happen to John, he's my favorite?" And Sam can't bring himself to tell her -- and Al, his holographic companion, just shakes his head and says, "No, Sam, you can't tell her..." Oh my God, made me CRY...
(I loved that show -- I was so disappointed when it went off the air...but that's another topic for another day...)

There are way more than just 3 episodes of The Simpsons that have something to do with The Beatles. Of course there are the obvious ones when they appear but also (and I am always on about this) there has to be a fan who writes the scripts because so often there will be a subtle Beatle joke that you will only get if you know anyting about them....one that comes to mind was when some guy was making a speech at his wedding that started with a line like "Martha my Dear you have always been my inspiration" and I know there have been lots of other things too. Also there was the episode that was dedicated to Linda's memory and none of The Beatles came on that one - I think that was the one with the Chili Peppers actually.
In NZ and Australia that movie with the kids locked in the basement is called Secrets. It has Dani Minogue in it and some of my friends were extras in it and you can see them in the crowd scenes. A bit of a poor movie really but it sort of re-creates the atmosphere well.

Quantum Leap! How could I forget that one episode where Sam goes back to his hometown in 1969! That was a great episode! I saw the "sequel" to that one where he tries to save his brother in Vietnam, because he had died before.

The other night on a tv show my mother was watching this guy explained why he should replace the keyboardist in his brother-in-law's garage band by saying, "Well the Beatles got rid of Pete Best, and got Ringo and look what happened.." or something to that effect. Kind of cracked me up when mom told me.<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">Your friend is right. I had completely forgotten about "Opus", and it is one of my favorite movies regardless of Beatle name dropping. The main characters in the movie react to news of the murder of John Lennon (as the movie takes place over a 30 year time period from the sixties to '95). Even more amazing, one of the characters that you wouldn't think would know of John or even care, is also affected by his passing. (I won't elaborate as it might spoil the movie for you).
Mr. Holland's Opus is a must rent. Great movie that touches all the right heart strings.
Also, how could I forget some of the other posts. I used to love Quantum Leap, and saw the episodes mentioned. Man, the one where he sings Imagine is just too much. graemlins/cry2.gif *

I haven't seen that episode of Quantum Leap since it first aired but I still remember it quite well. Sam leaps into himself at the age of 10 and decides that he's going to talk his brother out of going to Vietnam and somehow keep his father from dying of a heart attack in a few years. When he tells his family the truth about who he is they don't believe him but they're puzzled at to how he knows things only someone who's lived through future events could. When his brother goes hunting, Sam tells him he can prove he's from the future and tells him that two birds are going to appear over some trees, he'll take aim at the first one, miss, take aim at the second and hit it. Suddenly, the birds appear and what he said will happen happens. His sister later asks him, "Is Paul OK?" Sam dosn't know what she means and then she explains, "Paul McCartney". Sam thinks and goes "Oh those rumours. No, no, he's fine, that was just a hoax". "So the Beatles are OK" "Yeah, yeah, they're all fi- ... well...John..." "John?! Did something happen to John?!" Al tells Sam "Don't tell her Sam" and Sam says "...well John...writes a song". He plays Imagine and his sister breaks up crying, Sam asks her why and she explains that if he's telling the truth her brother and father are going to die. His dad comes out and tells him to end this nonsense, he's got his whole family worried sick and he wants him to admit that he made the whole thing up. Al tells him he can't change things and he's only going to make things worse so Sam tells them he lied because he was worried about his brother going to war.
The video for Ticket to Ride was played during Dr Who in 1965's The Chase. When the Doctor's two companions say to the other companion who's from the 25th century "I didn't know you liked the Beatles, Vicki", she replies "Oh I love all classical music". "Classical music?" "Oh yes, I've even been visited their memorial in Liverpool". The Beatles were also asked to be in either the first Dr Who story or the first Dalek story playing old men, but Brian Epstein turned the offer down.
Ringo was in Monty Python.
All You Need is Love was played during the final episode of The Prisoner.
Dave Lister has two mechanical goldfish named Lennon and McCartney.
I saw that episode of Dark Skies. The lead characters believe that aliens are going to plant subliminal messages on television but they don't know how. When they discover that the Beatles are set to perform on Ed Sullivan, they realize how effective the aliens plot will be with so many people tuned in. The male lead goes to the theatre and approaches John Lennon after Brian Epstein has just been told off by Ed Sullivan. "Yeah, I'm worried that there might be certain holes in the arrangements you guys have with security and you might want to pass this concern off to your manager". John says "You think there might be problems with our security? You might be right, they let you in". He hands him the paper he was doodling on and walks off.

Near the beginning, Ferris says "I quote John Lennon: 'I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me.' Good point...Of course, he was the Walrus. *I* could be the Walrus--I'd still have to bum rides off of people."
And who could forget Ferris doing a high-energy version of the Beatle version of "Twist and Shout" in the parade scene??
Oh--and in Pretty in Pink, the one character in there (the goofy guy that's chasing after Molly Ringwald) starts singing John's song "Love."

At the beginning of Dirty Dancing, Baby is in the car driving to the Kellerman's with her parents and she says something like "That was the summer of 1963... before Kennedy was shot... before the Beatles"... that's my second fave line in the movie, next to "Nobody puts Baby in a corner"
LOVE IT!!!
Also, in Sliding Doors, James starts up a conversation with Helen in the train about the guy next to him who's singing a Beatles song or something like that. I can't remember I'll have to watch it again.
And in Sixteen Candles, the geeky kid sings Birthday to Molly Ringwald's character in the car at the dance... and then I think he sings Hey Jude too, or at least part of it.
A little off topic, but I was just listening to one of my Barenaked Ladies CD's and there's a song on there called "Be My Yoko Ono" and there's a great line that goes: "I know that when I'm saying this I may be stepping on pins and needles / but I don't like all these people slagging her for breaking up the Beatles" I had heard that the Ladies played that song for Yoko a few years ago and she really liked it.

I recently got the new Barenaked Ladies DVD with all their music videos, and the one for that song is FULL of film footage of John and Yoko, which, according to the band's commentary regarding it, she was very good about giving them to use! Apparently, she thought the song was funny -- which just goes to show you that Yoko DOES have a sense of humor, despite the nasty things people sometimes say about her. (I like Yoko, so you guys KNOW I will defend her...)

I was just watching the Simpsons and they were having a contest for Teacher of the Year, and one of the nominees was Little Richard. I heard him say something like "Come to think of it, I'm a teacher... I taught Paul McCartney to go 'WOOOO'" and I started laughing my arse off!!!
Supposedly, there are rumors that Richard tried to seduce Paul when the Beatles opened for him in Liverpool in 1962 or 1963... only they know for sure, right?

Since I last posted, I got reminded of three that hadn't been noted here yet:
1]
There was a clip episode (a show where instead of doing a full script they use clips from prior programs) for ROSEANNE which started with a title card placing the year at 1965. Roseanne and Jackie go to see a gypsy fortune telling madame (played by John Goodman), and as the reading started Roseanne says, "I want to find out about my marriage to Paul McCartney." After she sees a few clips through the crystal ball of her married life with Dan, she comments, "Boy, Paul let himself go to pot, didn't he?"
2]
I also remember an episode of THE SINGLE GUY, a show that save for this lone post would otherwise be forgotten. (Probably just as well, all said...) The episode aired in 1995, soon after ANTHOLOGY came out. One of the minor characters finds a humidor what has a small reel-to-reel tape in it, which he plays and hears what soulds like the Beatles playing around in the studio before they record a brief song, with the following lyrics:
Your love warms me like a toaster,
Wilder than a roller coaster,
That is what I get for loving you.
Ooooh!
Characters then go on to try and authenticate the song, incolclusively, then hold an auction for record companies to snatch it, with no takers.
Dejected, at the last minute they get a visitor who insists on meeting them in the parking lot. We only see his hand and knee, but his Liverpudlian accent lets us know who he is, mentioning that he'd been looking for the humidor, as "it belonged to me grandfather. e was a very clean old man." He then buys the tape off them for $50, and we watch his SUV drive away with the plate MACCA 1.
(Hey, I said it was better forgotten...)
3]
Finally the special entitled THE SPECIAL FORMERLY ENTITLED THE MARTIN SHORT SHOW ran a sketch which had Martin as Ringo Starr staring in an adaptation of "Long Day's Journey Into Night," as directed by Richard Lester. Included is a "romp in the field" sequence where the principle actors are playing for the camera while the songtrack plays...
Come out and play, little girl,
What do you say, little girl,
Come out and play-ayyy...
Later, "Ringo" gets a soliliquy where he sings the following ditty:
It's a long day's journey into night,
Dad's on the bottle, and mum's all tight,
It's a long day's journey into night...
But, sadly, the special didn't convince NBC to give Martin Short his show back, so all we have now is Jimmy Glick and nothing but...
Knowing me, I'll probably remember a few more twisted bits as I loose lucidness. I think there was also an episode of F-TROOP that had a Beatles-like band in it, but I hope like Hell I'm wrong about that...

There was at least one with Fred's "hillbilly" relatives, the Hatrocks, and their intense hatred of "Bug Music" that I recall...usually represented by Fred, Barney, Wilma and Betty wearing Beatle wigs and chanting "He said yeah, yeah, yeah, She said yeah, yeah, yeah"
Also one (I think, believe it or not, it was the final one) where Fred dreams about Pebbles and Bamm Bamm being able to sing, and they are "discovered" by "Eppy Brianstone!"
And apparently some other one featuring a moptop like band called the Way Outs.
Does anyone else remember these? I keep looking for them on Cartoon Network but they don't seem to ever show those particular episodes. Wonder if the Beatle parodies are the reason?

When the 30th anniversary of the Beatles appearance on Ed Sullivan was approaching it was already rumoured that the three Beatles would be getting back together to record again. Rumours cropped up that the three of them would appear on Late Night with David Letterman on the 9th as that is where the Ed Sullivan show was broadcast from. On the night of the 9th, Letterman, who knew he had to address these rumours, announced to his audience "be prepared for...something. Ladies and gentlemen...The Beatles" at which point 70 year old regular Larry Bud Melman (think Mr Grainger from Are You Being Served for the closest approximation) came out, and shouted an out of key rendition of All My Loving, and then yelled "Good night suckers!".
I've also heard of a Saturday Night Live sketch where John Lennon, just before the Beatles make it big, has to break the news to his best friend and then fifth Beatle Albert Goldman that he's out of the group. Lennon wants Goldman to remain, but Paul, George and Ringo take a vote and decide that John has to tell him he's fired. Goldman then vows revenge on John.
Saturday Night Live is of course where the Rutles debuted in America and was such a popular sketch that Lorne Michaels asked Eric Idle if he could do the movie.

Guess what? I remembered another one, the Beatles-inspired episode of GILLIGAN'S ISLAND...
from http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/GuidePageServlet/showid-599/epid-10157/
"Don't Bug the Mosquitoes"
Episode Number 48
First Aired December 9, 1965
Writer Brad Radnitz
Director Steve Binder
Guest Stars: Les Brown, Jr. (as Bingo) George Patterson (as Bango) Ed Wade (as Bongo) Kirby Johnson (as Irving)
Synopsis:
A popular American singing group, the Mosquitoes (Bingo, Bango, Bongo, and Irving), land on the island hoping for some quiet and relaxation on a deserted island.
Notes:
Three of the Mosquitoes (Bango, Bongo, and Irving) were played by the three singers known as the Wellingtons, the group that sang the Gilligan's Island theme song in the first season!
The Gilligan Girls (Mrs. Howell, Ginger & Mary Ann) perform "You Need Us".
The Girls of Gilligans Island formed a band called "The Honey Bees" and performed the song "You Need Us".

Got reminded of another one (Lord, I need stronger depressants...)
THE ODD COUPLE
Episode # 101: "The Paul Williams Show" (aired 1974)
Plot: Felix's daughter Edna is staying with Felix and Oscar and she makes a stink about wanting to see Paul Williams.
Lines of dialog (approximate):
FELIX:
When it comes to raising kids, I take the Beatle's advice: "Let It Be." Just stay calm and everything will work out.
(later, after Edna aggrivates Felix)
OSCAR:
Felix, what about "Let It Be" huh?
FELIX:
Oh what did the Beatles know? They never had kids!
(Yes, that's an inaccuracy, as by then there were quite a few Beatles prodginy, but then any show that has a character wanting to follow Paul Williams on the road should be considered suspect in the reality department anyway...)

And then there were the Animaniacs: Of course, Wakko Warner was SUPPOSED to sound like Ringo!
And specifically, Episode #73, "A Hard Day's Warner," which begins with a total parody of AHDN, complete with Yakko, Wakko and Dot running from hordes of screaming fans, and attending a fan convention not unlike Beatlefest...oh God, I remember that one, I laughed until I cried!
There was also a switch of the title song lyric to include the words "Penny Lane-y" as Scratchnsniff, Yakko, Wakko and Dot walked across Abbey Road!
There's a page with all sorts of Beatles/Animaniacs connections -- it is EXCELLENT and includes a complete transcript of the "Hard Day's Warners" episode: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/2636
There's also a sub-page not unlike Harb's Paul Is Dead page, listing all the "clues" about Dr. Scratchnsniff's supposed demise. VERY funny stuff! http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/2636/deadscratchy.html

Thanks guys!! I just checked out Mr. Holland's Opus, what a great, touching movie!! And was it me, or did Richard Dreyfuss look incredibly sexy doing his interpretation of Beautiful Boy?? LOL.
Also, speaking of the Simpsons. We just bought the ROAD RAGE game for Playstation 2, and the school bus driver guy says something like.. "Hop aboard the magical mystery bus dude!" graemlins/laugh5.gif

SNL did a skit about the Two of Us movie on VH1, in that instead of meeting to play music and think of going to the SNL studios to play live...they open up a chicken shack instead. It was okay...the highlights being when Jimmy Fallon playing John droned into the mic, "Who ever has order #9, #9, #9...your order is up. That and of course Yoko had to come in voice her opinion on cooking chicken...
Not a bad SNL skit, but not a great one...even tho they parodied the Beatles (kinda).

I tried looking for transcript for a sketch from SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE from April 19, 1980, but had to just recall this from memory:
Sketch: "Invasion of the Mind Snatchers"
Premise: Ronald Reagan's surging popularity is explained as the result of alien pods replacing otherwise sensible people with copies that irrationally support Reagan's election.
scene: Laurane Newman watching TV
ANNOUNCER (v/o):
"And in other news, the Beatles have announced that they will be reuniting. They will perform for the first time together at a fund raiser for Ronald reagan."

Oh, I just saw a movie last night with a Beatle reference. In "Four Weddings and a Funeral," the bride is making a speech and talks about her father dying, and says something like "the great John Lennon who died the same year said, 'love is the answer, you know that for sure" or something like that. It was a really touching moment in the movie too, awww!

1)Once on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, the aunts were working on a puzzle when one of the aunts held up a section the size of her palm and said "O.K. I finished ringo's nose".
2)On SNL Eddie Murphy claims to be the real 5th Beatle - a sax player named Clyde. He says that
She Loves You was first
called She Loves You, Man. He plays the record forwards to "She loves you MAN, Yeah MAN.."
then backwards to hear "Hey Paul, let's kick Clyde out of the band to become famous on our own!"
3)In the episode where lisa needs braces, lisa hallucinates when she goes
under anaesthetic. It's very Yellow
Submarine-ish. At the end, the four cartoon Beatles sail past in their sub, and say,
"Look.... it's Lisa in the sky! No
diamonds though.."
In the episode where Bart becomes Mr Burns's heir, Marge and Homer visit
'Conformo', a brainwashing specialist. He lists
his clients - "Peter Fonda, well, that was a heartbreaker. But I did get Paul
McCartney out of Wings!" Homer: "You idiot! He
was the most talented one!!"
The Simpsons go to a 50's diner that has newspapers from the 50's on the
walls. One of the larger headlines is
"BEATLES FORMED!"
I got these off a website that had lots of tv and movie beatle references. I can't remember it tho

Of course there was SNL creator Lorne Michaels' big ploy to get the Beatles back together for a reunion concert in 1976. We all know Michaels is a HUGE Beatles fan, and I think he did this offer over 3 or 4 shows. I forget how much he offered, but he raised the offer the second time. His line about "giving less to Ringo" is hilarious. It ended when George actually came on SNL and tried to take the check for himself! He was denied. images/icons/smile.gif
More Simpsons Stuff:
I can't believe no one mentioned the one EPISODE devoted entirely to the Beatles.
This was the episode where Homer, Principal Skinner, Apu, and Chief Wiggum form a barbershop quartet, the B-Sharps, in 1985.
Wiggum isn't strong enough a voice for the group, so he is ousted in favor of Barney. This leads to shows where the crowd was shouting "Barney never, Wiggum forver!" as an ode to the replacement of Pete Best for Ringo.
The manager of the B-Sharps draws a striking resemblance to Brian Epstein.
As the B-Sharps grow in popularity from their numer one single, "Baby On Board" (Homer's demo tape lyrics = Baby on Board, something, something, something, Burt Ward...) they arrive at JFK airport and hold a press conference in front of a Pan-Am Airlines background.
They're first album cover, "Meet the B-Sharps," shows the four men in shadow, like "Meet the Beatles." On the back of the album Barney is turned around, like Paul on the back of Pepper.
Of course the band starts to encounter tension. Barney starts to date a Japanese conceptual artist (Yoko) who orders grape juice in a bowler at Moe's (and gets it!). Barney starts to dress in freaky clothes, and they even record a song together- "Revolution #8" The lyrics: "Number eight, BURP, number eight, BURP...and so on...
The band knows its in its final days, so they decide to put on one more concert on Moe's roof. On a windy day, the B-Sharps perform "Baby on Board" while a newspaper boy shills the headline. Suddenly who pulls up in a limo, but George! He looks out the window, says "it's been done," and rides off. HILARIOUS.
At the end of the performance, Homer says, "thank you and on behalf of the band, I hope we passed the audition." After the laughter, Barney says, "I don't get it."
More Beatle references:
- Moe's bar is called "Moe's Cavern", an ode to the Cavern in Liverpool.
- Moe makes "Lucy Oysters" after Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.
- Apu's last name was shortened like Ringo's
- Apu being in the group may be an ode to the Rutles, who had an actual Indian member.
- Their other song "Surgeon General" has the lyrics poo-poo-pa-doop, similar to "I Am The Walrus"
- Maybe the coolest one- the B-Sharps second album was called "Bigger Than Jesus", and was spawned from an actual conversation Homer had about being bigger than said messiah. The album cover: the B-Sharps walking across water, EXACTLY in the same position as the boys on "Abbey Road"
I LOVE that episode.
There have been other references here and there:
- One Simpons opening montague featured the family and everyone in Springfield surrounding the couch like Sgt. Pepper's cover.
- Incidentally that was the actual cover of a Simpsons' music album. The title: "The Yellow Album."
- Paul and Linda McCartney guest-star on "Lisa The Vegetarian" as gardeners on top of the Mini-Mart. "Apu's garden in the shade," says Linda. Apu sings "Sgt. Pepper" as Paul and Linda bop along. Paul also says that, "if you play Maybe I'm Amazed backwards, you hear a recipe for a jammin' Lentil soup!" This results in the closing credit playing of the song, with subliminal messages heard way in the back. Very funny. As Lisa meets Paul, he says,"she's leaving home?"
- Marge loves Ringo Starr. In one episode, Marge's picture of Ringo is finally received, some 30 years later.
- Homer has a dream on one show, and the background song: "Golden Slumbers"!
Finally a VERY interesting tae on a show from a website I found:
From the Chili Cook-Off Episode:
[3F24] "During Homer's 'trip' Jasper (almost) quotes from 'I Am the Walrus' (Not quite 'Goo Goo Goo Joob', but close enough);
Several viewers have suggested that Barney Gumble's echoing belch when Homer is hallucinating may be a reference to the final chord in 'A Day in the Life';
I had a fascinating email from Ken Furphy who suggests that this entire episode is filled with allusions to the Beatles work of the late 60s - citing dozens of examples including the wax that Homer eats being a reference to the waxwork figures on the Sgt. Pepper cover. "The entire theme" Ken writes "of Homer's search for a meaning to life beginning in 'Pepperland' and ending in the harmony of marriage is a clear reference to the course that John and Paul's lives took in the years 1967-1970". I'm not sure I agree with a lot of Ken's assumptions, but it's an interesting take on the episode."

I don't know that anyone here mentioned about the cartoon series of the "Powerpuff Girls" on Cartoon Network.
But one of the episodes (and many others) had mentioned a lot about our Fab Lads.
There was an episode called "Meet the Beat Alls" that is the 4 villians from the cartoon: Mojo Jojo, Him, Fuzzy Lumpkins and Princess, who is a Rich girl who turned Evil, and has an envy of the Powerpuff Girls.
Their quotes and sayings are all mentioned with their songs, albums... and you can see them (Beatles) appearing in the cartoon... them on stage, and the 4 villians strangling them; and we can see them as "Yellow Submarine" Cartoon figures. There's another monkey (a female) dressing in style like Yoko Ono (her name in the cartoon is Moko Jono)...
I like this episode! graemlins/thumbsup2.gif

There is an episode in the classic Dick Van Dyke Show where Rob and Laura have to hide out an English group called The Red Coats. The part of The Red Coats are played by Chad and Jeremy. But it was no doubt inspired by the hysteria of Beatlemania. The Red Coats stay at the Petrie home and Rob has to endure the teenage girls and constant request for tickets to the show. Chad and Jeremy do perform one song on the show.

I saw a little of "Notting Hill" at my friend's house. On the beginning of the film, Hugh Grant, in his bookstore, was talking with a friend of his, giving him a cup of Cappuchino, as Hugh met with Julia Roberts, and his friend asked that if he saw Ringo Starr . That's all.
But what I didn't understand what they talked about Ringo in there... (The video was a little drafty.)

A few i didn't see yet or that i missed.
anyone remember the '60s show The Avengers? I don't recall the exact episode or the details but in one show there are four characters named John, Paul, George.. and Fred.
Also, there was a movie made in the '80s called "Peggy Sue Got Married", and it had a couple Beatle-references. In short the movie is about Kathleen Turner (Peggy Sue) going back in time, as herself, to 1960. Anyway, in one bit she tells her parents that she's going to "go to Liverpool and discover the Beatles!" and later in the movie she gives her singer wannabe boyfriend (played by Nicholas Cage) a song that "she" just wrote. Cage tells her that the song is an ok- considering that it was her first attempt at songwriting- but that he "changed the 'Yeahs' to 'Oohs'..... She loves you ooh ooh ooh.." Jim Carey also had a small role in the movie.
speaking of Jim Carey, there is a scene in Dumb and Dumber where Jim Carey is looking at a jukebox and notices a Monkees tune-- "Yeah, they were a big influence on the Beatles!"
speaking of the Farelly brothers, in Shallow Hal Jason Alexander's girlfriend informs him that the three remaining Beatles are doing a reunion concert with Eric Clapton stepping in for John.
Movie Titles: Eight Days a Week (has a reference or two), Back in the USSR (starring Ewan McGregor?) and Can't Buy Me Love- though i didn't actually watch any of them. and Moulon Rouge has some Beatle-related songs in it (Silly Love Songs, All You Need Is Love).
Ok, enough rambline, that's all i can think of at the moment- man i watch too much tv!

oh wait, a couple more (for now at least). Did anyone mention the movie "Michael" with John Travolta?
Travolta: "You know, its like John and Paul said"
Some guy: "The apostles??"
Travolta: "No the Beatles.. 'All you need is love'"
later the main characters do a sing-a-long in the car.
U2's Bono had a lot to do with a film called Million Dollar Hotel. There was a character who was a bit crazy and he thought he was John Lennon, looked like him, acted like him, quoted John, sang his songs, etc. Weird movie but had some decent people in it like Mel Gibson and Milla Jovovich.

Last night I saw this episode of 'Red Dwarf'.
The crew of the Red Dwarf is in a Parallel Universe:
Rimmer: Will they be be exactly the same as us?
Holly: No, there will be differences. This is a parallel universe, innit?
Rimmer: What do you mean?
Holly: Well, for instance, in this universe, it could be that Hitler won the Second World War. It could be something even more incredible, like perhaps Ringo was a really good drummer.

One that I'd forgotten but don't know why. SCTV had Martin Short (I think) show viewers how to play the acoustic guitar by performing various songs. He takes it slow and calmly, making sure that he isn't going too fast for the students and his expression never wavers from a welcoming, cheery smile. "Hel-ter Skel-ter. Na. Na. Na. Na. Na. When. I. GET. to. the. BOT.tom. I. go. BACK. to. the. top...". Imagine Mr Rogers singing Helter Skelter round a camp fire to children and you get the idea.

I have one that's a little obscure, and may not be in good taste for some people (fair warning):
The first episode of a Fox sketch comedy, THE EDGE from 1992 (which had as cast members Wayne Knight, Jennifer Aniston, Greg Kinney and Julie Brown) had a series of sketches where they flash a quick scene after asking what so-and-so was doing RIGHT... THIS... MINUTE?
Well, the firts episode, they had one where they asked what Paul McCartney was doing RIGHT... THIS... MINUTE?
Quick cut to a coffin out in the deep woods, containing a skeleton in a Beatles wig and a light blue Eaton jacket.
It got worse later when they asked the same of Gentle Ben, who was shown muzzling "Paul"...
Believe it or not, someone did do a joke that managed to be equally obscure and tasteless... graemlins/images/icons/frown.gif

In "Crossing Jordan" last night, Jordan, Gary and Nigel are talking with the detective about the bullet wounds of a bank robber who was killed. They see that there's two exit wounds and only one entrance wound, and Nigel exclaims that the bullet that killed her was a "magic bullet". Gary then asks, "Can you trace the path of the bullet?" and Nigel replies, "I certainly can... Ringo."
(Somebody at the Medical Examiner's office had posted up a picture of Gary playing the drums when he was little... it was kind of cute!)
And last night, I was watching a Simpsons episode where the teachers are having a cabaret performance and Principal Skinner asks everyone, "If you like lunchroom ladies in Beatle wigs with tennis rackets for guitars...," or something like that, meaning that you should stick around to see the last part of the show, and the audience gets up to leave the auditorium screaming!

The post on the Anthology reminded me of something. Dana Carvey had a TV show (it was pulled after a few episodes because sponsers felt it was too controversial to advertise on) which came out about a year after the Anthology. One of the skecthes was "Left Over Beatle Memories" as extras from, and done in the style of, the Anthology.
George: Yeah, I killed a man once. He looked at me funny so I had to. I think he might even have been a stage hand. Course the record company covered it up so nobody ever found out (his eyes slowly stare up and to the left).
George: I wrote a song called 'Me and My Squidy' - it went "Me and my squidy, love my little squidy, Squidy, squidy, squidy, rock n' roll", so I took it to John and Paul who said "The 'Beatles' (makes quotation marks with fingers) don't write songs about mollusks". Three months later Paul comes up with Octopus' Garden. ... There was a lot of crap like that going on.
Paul was played by Carvey who did a lot of the wide eyed mannerisms and exagerrated Paul voice.
Paul: So I'm just plinkin' and ploonkin' on the piano and I'm plinkin' and ploonkin' and ploonkin' and plinkin'. And that's how I wrote Yesterday.
Later,
Paul: One day I'm plinkin' and ploonkin' on me guitar and I'm plinkin' and ploonkin' ...and then I remembered I was driving my car.
Ringo talked about how he thought Yellow Submarine was their biggest hit as after it came out, everywhere he went he saw people eating submarine sandwiches.
Another shot opened of Ringo in his dark shades saying nothing and not moving. Suddenly, a loud snore errupts from him.

The program was "Doritos Presents the Dana Carvey Show," which actually didn't have any problems with the sponsors, as they got their name in the title.
The problem came about not because of lack of sponsors, but from the presence of ONE, BIG, HONKIN' sponsor who got their name in the title. Carvey and Pepsico (Doritos' parent) didn't mind, but a lof of folks who were worried about the direction TV was going in (back to the 1950s, when you actually had "Chesterfield Cigarettes Presents the Evening News," which a lot of folks forgot about...) raised a stink about corporate sponsorship of art. (Apparently, like a lot of other taboo subjects in American culture, this is one of those things you can engage in all you want so long as you don't talk about it in the open, for Lord's sake...)
Not enough of a stink was caused by this for anyone to pay attention, though; after its initial six episode run, ABC decided not to order any additional shows due to lack of ratings. Supposedly though, when it comes to having snacks around the house, Carvey's now set for life, which gets him through those miniscule MASTER OF DISGUISE royalty payments... graemlins/devil7.gif

There's a German movie called "Paul Is Dead"...
Summary:
"It's 1980 in a small town somewhere in West Germany. Summer vacation has just started and the days seem long for Tobias (12), a raving Beatles-fan. He is dreaming about having a band of his own together with his older brother Till. But Till just started dating his first girl-friend and therefore has other things on his mind. One fine day a mysterious man appears in town driving a white VW beetle, apparently English, with steering wheel on the right hand side. Tobias is convinced that he has seen the licence plate on the car before. Going through his LPs he finds his suspicions confirmed: It is the beetle shown on the Abbey Road cover.
His detective instincts aroused, he discovers a strange story which happened in 1966: Paul McCartney died under mysterious circumstances and was replaced with a double by his manager, Brian Epstein. All the elements seem to match and Tobias starts to investigate the case, believing he is confronted with Paul McCartney's killer."
"Hendrik Handloegten was born in Germany in 1968 but spent his childhood abroad. Amongst other countries, he lived in Finland, Brazil, Switzerland and France. In 1985, he moved from Paris to East Berlin. In 2000, he finished his studies at the German Film and Television Academy (dffb) in Berlin with his graduation film, Paul Is Dead, which won several awards, including the Prize of the Prime Minister of the Saarland 2000, the Lucas 2000, the Studio Hamburg Junior Prize, and the Prize for Best graduation Film 2000."

Yes, I saw this movie in 2000 or 2001, late at night, which is why my memory's a little fuzzy on it and I had to give an online summary... It's an interesting movie; interesting that a movie like this was made... If I remember the end correctly, since the movie takes place in 1980, there's something with John and this main character's suspect as well. Hm, now I wish this movie'd come on TV again, so I could refresh my memory on it!

I was just watching "According To Jim" (this marks the 2nd Beatles referance on that show so far - the writers must be fans!), and Jim had just told his wife that he had invested $2,000 in a farting doll he "invented", to skip the middleman. He said something like "Imagine if the Beatles had sold their own records, they'd be so rich now", his wife starts to tell him that they DID, but she gives up and goes back to the point at hand.

About an hour ago I watched an episode of the simpsons where Homer suspects the social worker is an angel. When he finally helps them to behave like a family, he says " it seems like I earned my wings" and homer says "I knew it! Youre an angel!"
and he says: "No I mean these" and he pulls out a CD "the best of wings" and starts singing "Band on the run" hahahaha!
There are lots of references in the simpsons, but this one popped up, I mean I just saw it!
Or when george appears on the show and says: "Hello Homer, I'm George Harrison" and homer goes: "oh my god!! Where did you get that brownie?" it's really funny!

I was rewatching The Rutles yesterday and noticed that in the scene with Dick Jaws talking in his office, you see a few framed gold records hanging on his wall, one of which is Paul McCartney's Red Rose Speedway. In any other film I wouldn't have mentioned it, but it seemed intriging considering the fact that it implies that instead of replacing the Beatles in the Rutle-timeline, the two groups coexisted.

From Late Night with David Letterman (I'd guess around 1988)
some of the Top 10 Revelations in Albert Goldman's Upcoming Biography of Ringo:
Used to Give John and Paul token songs to sing so they wouldn't feel left out.
Had a secretary named Lincoln, while Lincoln had a secretary named Ringo.
For a while, actually believed Paul was dead.
Suggested "Hey, Hey We're the Monkees" as Beatles theme song.
On their honeymoon, he and Barbara Bach held a bed-in to promote Seagram's wine coolers.
Advised Paul that "Hey, Dude" just didn't sound right.

has That Thing You Do been mentioned? I'm sure most people are aware of the mentions/similarities but...
There are a couple references: 1)at one point the fictional group in the movie is introduced as "the latest group to chalenge The Beatles to a hair-grooming contest", and 2) the group appears on a tv show where their names are displayed at the bottom of the screen, one of the band members is listed as "Sorry girls, he's engaged"- similar to The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show.

There is an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (from its fourth season) and it's called The Yoko Factor. After the group is kind of falling apart, Spike says its the Yoko factor and briefly describes the story of the Beatles' breakup (and he refreshingly shows Yoko in a favourable light!)
Also there's an episode of friends where Pheobe meets a guy and steals him away from his partner so he calls her Yoko, lol!

(i really need the prisonerseries on dvd! then i would remember. . . )<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">Let me help: The song was "All You Need Is Love," used twice in the last episode of THE PRISONER, "Fall Out" (#17). It's used once as Number 6 (Patrick McGoohan) is marched from the room he'd survived Degree Absolute last episode where Number 2 (Leo McKern) had just died, en route to finally meet Number 1. The second time comes after he's met Number 1 and started a shoot-out in the main chamber where the masters of the Village had been meeting; the effect of hearing this song played over submachine gun fire is still disconcerting, even thirty years later.
(If anyone's wondering, how'd the Beatles react to their music being used like this, the fact that you can still hear the song in the show after all this time is a pretty good sign they didn't object. In fact, George is on record as saying he was a big fan of THE PRISONER. Sadly, he never could mount a project with McGoohan; just imagine what Handmade Films might have done had they gotten a PRISONER-related project set...)

(OK, this may be a little tenuous, although with all the cross-referencing they did in TOY STORY 2 to 2001, JURASSIC PARK, STAR WARS and GOLDFINGER, it may not be that much of a stretch. And before anyone asks why bring up that film, there's an Eggman Movers van in TOY STORY 2 as well.)

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but there was a small Beatles reference on an early episode of "Family Ties". It was a scene where the dad (forget his name) is having a brief discussion about the state of popular music with his youngest daughter, so he ends up quoting the first few lines from "Eleanor Rigby", saying something along the lines of how good the music was in the sixties. It's been awhile since I've seen this episode, so my memory may be a little fuzzy.

I don't know if this has been posted (it'd take me forever to read through the entire thread again)...Two references in Pulp Fiction: one when Mia first meets Vincent, she questions him with, "My theory is that when it comes to important subjects, there's only two ways a person can answer. For instance, there's two kinds of people in this world, Elvis people and Beatles people. Now Beatles people can like Elvis. And Elvis people can like the Beatles. But nobody likes them both equally. Somewhere you have to make a choice. And that choice tells me who you are."
Also, near the end of the film during the holdup scene at the diner, Jules keeps referring to the guy holding up the diner as "Ringo."

In the film FINDING NEMO, the turtle Crush discusses child rearing with the clown fish Marlin:

Just the phrase "rooftop concert" rings an instant alarm with me. So weird that I didn't think of that... I think I was trying to do homework at the same time or something weird like that.
Another Disney Channel reference -- during the episode of "Sister Sister" where the mom (Lisa, is it?) gets married, this little kid sings "In My Life." It's a pretty scary cover, but it's neat that they decided to chose that for the wedding song. images/icons/smile.gif

I don't know if this one counts, but I can think of two of The Beatles songs that have been used as themesongs for television shows! One is a horrible cover of "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da" for "Life Goes On" and the other, a slightly less irritating cover of "In My Life" for "Providence".

I dont know if this has been mentioned, but in the movie The Emperor's Club, takes place in 1978 i think, the main charater, who is a teacher, is asking the other main character, a student, to name the 41 emperors they had learned and he says he knows only 4. He then holds up 4 fingers (pointer to pinkie) and says in a british accent, "John" and puts his pinkie down, "Paul" puts down his pinkie, and then says, "Ringo" and puts his down his ring finger, and, with his middle finger still up, he says," And ummm..... My apologies if this one was already posted; it's not that recent a film:
In the opening of AUSTIN POWERS IN GOLDMEMBER, there's a conversation between Austin Powers (Mike Myers) and Steven Speilberg (himself) about the fake Austin Powers movie that Speilberg is shooting (which ends up being a lot funnier than the actual movie it appears in; sorry, off topic...).
In order to buttress his arguement, Austin tells Speilberg, "No offense, Sir Stevie, but you gotta have Mojo, baby. YEAH!" At this point an animated 'Mojo' comes out of Austin's mouth and sits on his hand, much the same way that an animated 'LOVE' came out of Paul's mouth and sat on his hand at the end of YELLOW SUBMARINE.

A year or so ago, I taped an episode of an obscure British digital TV programme called 'Rock Profiles' starring Matt Lucas and Mark Walliams. It was an affectionate send-up of the 'Threetles' which portrayed Paul as a carnivorous Gerry Marsden type, Ringo as a shell of a man who had been possessed by the spirit of Thomas the Tank Engine and, funniest of all, George as someone who had delved so deeply into Indian culture that he had actually become Indian - the show ended with George singing 'Something' in a thick Indian accent, straight to camera, finishing with a bite on a popadom...

don't know how many of you watch the show "South Park" but tonight's episode had a Beatles reference.
The theme of the show is that the kids are trying to stop big-time movie directors from making numerous politically correct changes/updates to legendary movies and then "re-re-rereleasing". Speilberg and George Lucas are targeted.
One of the kids (Stan i think) argued that "if the Beatles kept changing the White Album every few years- what would you have left?!"

I didn't see "Money Pit" (Tom Hanks, Shelley Long) mentioned... I looked but maybe i missed it.
in the extended version of the movie it is explained near the beginning that when Shelley Long's character gets extremely drunk, she sings Beatles songs.
Later in the film (the regular version) Shelley Long, who is engaged to Tom Hanks' character, thinks she may have had an affair with a former boyfriend (she was drunk and doesn't know whether or not they did anything).
If i remember right, he tells her that she was singing and she asks "oh my god... the Beatles?!" and he responds "the entire catalogue". so she knows she was at least drunk enough to sleep with him. images/icons/smile.gif
I'm sure most people have probably seen it but for those who haven't- its funny(!), and it has Tom Hanks in it, that's reason enough anyway!

I can't believe we all forgot this one!
In the TV series PINKY & THE BRAIN, there is an episode entitled "All You Need is Narf." It's the 1960s, and the Brain has a plan to build the lava lamp, which would spill forth real lava to trap everyone, thereby taking over the world. He needs to get to India, where he will harvest a flower with the necessary ingredient needed to make his devilish device.
The best way to get the flower is to have Pinky pose as Guru Mous-arishi who draws followers to him that honor his holiness with gifts of the flower. And among those followers are... The Feebles, the world's greatest rock band with more than a passing resemblance to another world's greatest rock band.
The plan goes awry, though, when among the followers is the conceptual artists Yoyo Nono, whose wailings are appreciated by Feebles member Jim Lemmon, which breaks up the band and sends angry mobs against Pinky and the Brain.
In addition to the above, the closing theme contains a few lines by Pinky trying to do a version of John's "I got blisters on my fingers" line from "Helter Skelter," and the following pondering question:
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
"I think so Brain, but if we give peas a chance, won't the lima beans feel left out?"

I thought of this one last night -- there used to be a cartoon show on Nickelodeon called DOUG -- newer episodes were produced by Disney. Anyway...Doug and his friend Skeeter are huge fans of a group called The Beets, and their leader bears a striking resemblance to John, down to the accent!
Also -- just today (right now, as a matter of fact) I was watching a BBC show called "Cash In The Attic," which is a program where people invite experts into their houses to find stuff that can be auctioned off for cash. The woman on today's show was a Cavern Girl -- and she was going to sell a collection of autographs and memorabilia from her days as an early Beatles fan, including a first edition of "A Spaniard In the Works." (Unfortunately, the autograph inside was NOT authentic...sigh...) However, at the last minute she decided not to part with them -- probably a smart move!

Here are five more:
The Munsters had an episode where a rock group was in their house--I only saw this once, a zillion years ago, so I don't recall why they were there--and making a mess, but they redeemed themselves by playing "A Hard Day's Night" for the Munsters, which converted them to fans of this nameless group. (I still marvel at the chutzpah of attributing a Beatles song to a fake group.)
In the movie "Top Secret," the horse sings a few lines from "A Hard Day's Night."
I can't believe no one mentioned the TV show "Life Goes On," whose theme song was "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da."
In "Star Trek," Ensign Chekov was deliberately given a Beatle haircut to make him attractive to the younger audience.
In the Disney version of "Jungle Book," the vultures waiting for Mowgli to drop dead so they could eat him were given British accents as a tribute to the Beatles, though the accents were in no way Liverpudlian.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but I'll mention it again. In an 'All in the Family' Gloria says, "When I was fourteen, I thought the Beatles' hair was beautiful." (she's right!) images/icons/smile.gif
And this was a surprise to me. There's a reference to Ringo in an Archie Bunker's Place episode (where 14 year old Stephanie is caught smoking pot). Archie crashes Stephanie's party after finding three boys smoking pot in the bathroom. The kids are running out of the house.
Archie: "I wanna get all your names! You! What's your name?"
Boy smirking: "Ringo Starr." He goes out the door.
Archie: "Hey, you ain't gettin' away, Ringo!" (I think that's what he said, I'll have to check the episode again).
I enjoyed reading of these...if I see anymore references I'll mention them.

In the animated series ARTHUR, shown in the US on PBS, in the episode "Arthur's Spelling Trubble," there is a shot of Arthur reading his spelling list. On the list in front of him, the viewer can read the first few words clearly: AARDVARK, follwed by ABBEY ROAD.
"Please spell the word 'joo-joo.'"
"Can I have that in a sentence, please?"
"He got joo-joo eyeball he one holy roller"
"Joo-joo: J-U-U-J-U-U."
"I'm sorry, that's incorrect. You may sit down."

On the episode of American Dreams that aired this past Sunday, they had one of the female characters play a slow, accoustic version of "All My Loving" at the end of the episode. There was also a couple of references to Paul and Jane Asher.

Actually, Ive noticed several Beatles refrences on "Arthur" and "Sesame Street". I guess there trying to throw in something to see if the parents are paying attention.
In the film "Hook", the bedroom has a "Hard Days Night" poster in it.
In "Field of Dreams", in one scene you notice a framed picture of John.
In an episode of "The Monkees" Davy walks across the screen holding a copy of "Sgt. Pepper", for no apparent reason.
"The Wonder Years" once ended an episode with nearly all of the Beatles perfomance of "I Want To Hold Your Hand" from Sullivan.
And just the other night, I saw an episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies" where an English gentleman reffered to the Clampetts as "Americas answer to the Beatles"?!?
Of course in "This is Spinal Tap" theres a conversation about the cover of the White Album.
And in "Star Wars", Han Solo admits hes a "White Album" man. OK, so he didnt, just wanted to see if you were still with me. images/icons/smile.gif

I can think of one full of references. The movie 'I Am Sam'... Such a sad movie, but it's full of Beatles. Main character, Sam, is obsessed, and his daughter is named Lucy... I'm sure you can guess what after. :-)

Hey! I just thought about another one! Actually, I just saw it on TV... I'm not going to go through to see if it's already been listed, so here goes!
On 'Just Shoot Me' Finch (David Spade) forms a two man rock band with a fellow employee at Blush. The second member of the band starts dating Nina (older ex-model/fashion editor), who convinces him that he deserves more of the limelight. When confronted with the issue, Finch turns the entire thing into an argument, calls off the band, and says to Nina, "Thanks a lot Yoko!" (or something like that)
Anyway, I'm out. Haha.

I have two today.
I was watching Yvon of the Yukon with my little sister while I was babysitting her and there was a guy in the show who falls into a barrel of wine, and then he sees the face of the queen of France saying "Number Nine, Number Nine", then he passes out. Kind of obscure, but I'm sure we all know where it came from images/icons/grin.gif .
The other one was from the Simpsons in the episode where Homer goes on his vision quest with the coyote. While he's wandering around, Homer halucinates about the townspeople, and Jasper says "Goo Goo G'Joob".

There's a bit in Feardotcom (or Fear.com, whatever) starring Stephen Dorff (who was also in BackBeat of course). Dorff is a detective and early in the movie he goes to the appartment of a German exchange student. Dorff asks an accompanying detective, "Do you speak German?"
The reply: "I can sing 'She Loves You' in German." images/icons/smile.gif

But anyway.. On the Simpsons Sunday night, they went to England, and Homer gets in a fight with the Queen and he says "Our Beatles are way better then your Rolling Stones!". Tony Blair is in it too, and he mentions the White Cliffs of Dover. It's not really a Beatles reference, but that's where Mal kept asking for in Help! so it get's honourary mention.

I was watching an SNL rerun when Britney Sthpearths came on so in a panic i turned the station and ended up on Game Show Network- just in time to see a beatles reference images/icons/smile.gif
do gameshows count here?
Weaklest Link was on, though I have no idea how old it was. A woman had just gotten weakest linked off the show and the host (ann richards?) asked another female contestant why she voted her off. She said something to the affect of "I'm still angry about the Paul McCartney and Wings question."
AR: "Do you not like the Beatles?"
Contestant: "No- I Love the Beatles!"
AR: "Do you know where they're from?"
Contestant: "Liverpool"
AR: "Do you like people from Liverpool?"
Contestant: "I *love* people from Liverpool!"
the crowd got a kick out it and by the smirk on ann richard's face I would assume that she's from Liverpool or whereabouts...?

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but there were two references to the Beatles in recent (well, recent re-run) episodes of Family Guy (I know, I know... it's one of the crudest shows on the tube, but when it's not being terribly crude [as my examples will show] they can be terribly funny)
In last night's episode, Peter Griffin is talking about how whatever he was doing at that moment was more boring than when he was a security guard for George Harrison. The scene then jumps to Peter sitting in a security guard booth watching TV while somebody with a knife scales George's wall (unfortunately, we know where that reference came from...) and moments later, there are sounds of a struggle from inside the house and Peter says "Hey! Hey! Keep it down in there, you crazy Beatle... ."
I didn't find it funny, but it's a reference nonetheless.
The next one was from a few nights ago. Stewie, Meg and Chris Griffin are arguing over who should get to keep the money in a billfold they found, and Stewie (the baby) says to one of them, "Don't make me do to you what I did to John Lennon!" and the scene cuts to an art gallery where Stewie is standing between John and Yoko. His line? "John, have you met Yoko? Yoko, John?"
I actually found that one to be kind of funny, but still offensive. I don't mind Yoko...
Anyway, that's my two cents, for what they're worth (which is probably around two cents, but please don't count in the Canadian exchange rate... please... it's embarassing...)

There's an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer called "The Yoko Factor" where Spike the vampire tries to split up Buffy and her friends by turning them against each other... obviously a reference to how the Beatles may (or may not) have been split up by Yoko.
In an episode of Friends Pheobe and her Mom are thrilled to discover they both like pizza and The Beatles!
In the new Hugh Grant film Lvoe Actually there are LOADS of Beatles references. "All You Need Is Love" is played at someone's wedding, and a kid who is learning to play the drums idolises Ringo and has "Ringo Rules!" written on his door. I confirm that Ringo does, indeed, rule!

There was that lame episode of The Simpsons when Homer became a hippy ("D'Oh in the Wind"). The ending credits feature a load of psychedelic images and blurring colours with "Tomorrow Never Knows"-type music, with Homer's voice treated to sound like John's on the actual record (eerie, distant) then at the end of it Homer says "I buried Flanders."

In Family Guy the baby Stewie says "I got blisters on my fingers!" after playing some song in banjo. ... I dont dont know if this has been posted:
In that ol' sitcom Newsradio, (you know, with Phil Hartman, the one about the radio broadcasting), when Dave's girlfriend Lisa says Dave she wants to have a baby, Lisa told him she could work and he could be in home taking care of the baby.
"You expect me to take care of the baby?"- Dave
"Of course, just like John Lennon!" - Lisa
"Oh yeah, that worked great for him".
Also in an earlier episode when the whole office didnt know that Dave (the boss) and Lisa (an employee) were dating, Dave tells Lisa (I dont remember exactly, so its something like this):
"We have to finish this, you know what people think about Yoko Ono"
and later in the episode when the owner of the station finds out about the relationship, he tells Dave:
"You cant date her, you know what people thought about Paul McCartney"
"...It was John Lennon sir" - Dave
"No, People actually liked him" or something like that.

In the movie 'Heartbreakers' the main character is a con woman, pretending to be Russian, and is persuaded to sing a 'real' Russian song in a Russian restaraunt. The song of her choice... Back in the USSR, and enough people know it they sing along, not the whole song just a verse or so.

Well, they're not really movies, since they are made for TV only, and are part of a series, but...
On December 20, 2003, there was a show on TV here in Germany called "Stubbe - Von Fall zu Fall: Yesterday", featuring a crime involving an elderly woman who is found dead in her home. Nothing of value is missing except for her son's extensive Beatles collection... The whole film was filled with Beatles music, memorabilia, mentions, a tour of the Reeperbahn (it took place in Hamburg) and a guest spot by Tony Sheridan, playing himself.
Starting from the names of some characters (Cynthia), to the music, through to them finding a reel which supposedly contained the earliest recording of the Beatles, playing "Twist and Shout" (which was blank, of course. ;-)), it was one big Beatles tribute.
Also, a preview for a series starting up again in 2004 showed one of the characters (a cop) in a bar, wearing a Beatles wig and shouting to the bar-tender: "Do you have anything by the Beatles?" images/icons/wink.gif

I don't know if anyone has seen this but today my son and I were watching the Powerpuff Girls and the episode we were watching was almost entirely about the Beatles. Mojo jojo (the villian) was wearing a white suit like John and had found the love of his life Myoko. The monsters named The Beat alls were on a roof terroizing the town and the mayor called the girls and said "the beat alls are on the rooftop again, why can't they let it be?" Also another character was named Judy and everytime someone called out to her they said "hey Jude." There were many more references in the episode. It was very cute.

The Flintsones had an episode where the hillbillies got upset over hearing "bug music" which was a group of four singers simply singing "yeah, yeah, yeah". In the movie "Peggy Sue Got Married" there is a scene where a drunken Peggy Sue who has gone back in time to the '50's tells her father that she's going to Liverpool to discover The Beatles.
I also remember the pilot episode of "Family Ties" which centers around the family going to see "A Hard Day's Night".

One of my favorite tv shows..."Mr. Show" which aired on HBO for 4 seasons. Its a sketch comedy show and they made a few Beatles jokes and spoofs during the show...specifically:
Season 3, Episode 4: One of the skits is called "Got a Good Thing Going - The Beetletown Players" and its a video spoof of "A Hard Day's Night"...its filmed in black and white and shows the shows two stars Bob and David running and hiding from fans.
Season 3, Episode 5: Skit called "The Fad 3" in black and white again...London 1962...three men spotted by Brian Blemming...but rather than musicians, they become models. They have the mop-top hair and everything. Photo sessions in Abbington Studios. Screaming girls and live "performances" of them just standing there.
Press Conference: How do you like America?
Fab 3: Sunny side up.
Press Conference: Do you think your fame will grow?
Fab 3: We've been photographed more than Jesus Christ. (and were shocked by lack of controversy)
Experimental photo shoot where they overexposed a photo...simply known as "Overexposure(The Blank Photo)".
The rise in the Beatles (they show a clip) and the price of film development led to the breakup of the Fad 3.
One of them then committed suicide. And another one "divides his time between aisle six of the Norwich quick mart and ... the break room. He said he would be willing to do a reunion photo, but only under any circumstances."
Okay, I've written the whole thing out for you, but it really doesn't do it justice. Go check it out for yourselves!!

I saw the new movie "50 First Dates" starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore this weekend. At one point in the movie, Drew's character turns down Adam's character's advances by pretending she has a boyfriend, even though he knows that she doesn't. Adam asks, "So what's this guy's name then?" and she's like, "Ringo." He's like, "Oh, and let me guess, his last name is Starr." She's like, "No, McCartney!" Haha. It's a cute movie, and they also play "Another Day" at one point.
Also, did anyone watch "Friends" this past week? Phoebe and Mike walked down the isle to "Here, There, and Everywhere", played on the steel drums and it sounded cool!

A 1964 episode ofPetticoat Junction (we used to call it the T&A Line) where Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo and Betty Jo and a friend donned moptops and called themselves the "Lady Bugs" and spoofed on the Beatles.
A 1965 episode of Gilligan's Island where the Diva, the Hometown Girl and the Rich Doyenne called themselves the "Honey Bees" after a quasi-Beatle band from England landed on their island.
Episode 26 of The Munsters where a Beatle-esqu band played a good version of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and a song about Ringo. That was 1964.
In 1974, Gloria on All in the Family tells Meathead's friend Stuart, "When I was 14 years old I thought the Beatles' hair was beautiful!"

Oh and I don't know if this has been pointed out or not but on an episode of Family Ties, Alex is at this girl's house and there's this huge poster of 'With The Beatles'. Alex, who is a little uncomfortable (I can't remember why now- it's been a while since I've seen this episode) says to her, "Is that your family?"
And on another episode the dad says something about Eleanor Rigby. And in the episode where they get the gun Jennifer says, "What ever happened to 'Give Peace a Chance'?"\

I've never seen this movie but apparently it was on AMC recently. It looks rather frightening in a loss-of-brain-cells sort of way:
http://www.beachpartymoviemusic.com/TheGirlsOnTheBeach.html
The Synopsis: coeds on Spring break vacation struggle to save their Alpha Beta sorority house from repossession by holding a fund raising concert. Things quickly get crazy when a group of guys -- in an attempt to attract the women --assure them they can get the Beatles to appear at the show.
Starring the Cricketts, Leslie Gore, and the Beache Boys. surprisingly the Beatles themselves never actually show up in this film... (thank god)
The link above leads to a more detailed description of the movie.
I didn't read the whole thing but the word "Beatles" caught my eye in the last couple paragraphs:
After Lori Saunders is thrown on stage to repeat her harem girl routine (yawn), the notes get even more sour. The sorority officers finally get "costumed" and rush on stage to perform a shallow, anemic impersonation the Beatles, in a completely forgettable number called It's Beginning To Show. While it of course contains the obligatory "ya ya's," suffice to say this throwaway is something Lennon and Mcartney couldn't have been forced to compose even if roasted alive over hot coals. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh2.gif But the insult to the Fab Four doesn't stop there: things are made worse by the fact the female actors do an absolutely horrific job of pretending to play their instruments (in particular, Miss Gail "surname-du-jour"/Gerber/Gilmore/whatever; she doesn't even attempt to pound the Ludwig drums in anything like a realistic fashion). Irrespective of all this, the girls in the audience go wild, to the point they forgive the sorority for "misleading" them and demand that the "girl group" come back on.
So, adding insult to injury, we are forced to sit through yet another "performance" by the girls, this time dressed in normal attire. Incredibly, they somehow manage to lower the musical bar even further as they wail out We Want To Marry A Beatle. Mercifully, this appalling excuse for a "song" is short, and the film closes with snapshots of various prior scenes as a male voiceover describes a happy ending.

Question: were the Beach Boys hard up for a side job or something??

A silly girl asks Elyse when told about the 60s, "Did you know the Beatles?"

Got reminded of this one the other night:
Old episode of MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS, where a quick bit has Eric Idle dressed up to look like John Lennon c. 1971 (year the show was made). Idle does a dead-on John imitation and says: "I'm starting a war for peace."

Saw this one this evening: A spot on the digital channel PBS Kids for the TV series BOOBAH that may find its way to regular PBS outlets. (Sadly, we Yanks got that show over here, too; I'll send the address for the sympathy cards later...)
Spot has the two animated kids that make up the logo for PBS Kids' block of programming playing a game of hide and seek in a rather unique place: the Sea of Holes. For the first six seconds of the spot, they bounce in and out of the holes and even pick up one, thus giving the kid "an 'ole in me pocket."

You forgot the best part of the show, during the end credits: Yoko, Paul and Jamie are sitting in bed with the covers up while the opening notes of "Give Peace a Chance" are playing. As those notes loop, the following dialog is said to the camera:
Yoko: "Give peace a chance."
Paul: "That's all we're saying."

In Britain, we have a sitcom called My Family about a family (obviously) in London.
In one episode, Susan (the mum), who's a tour guide was dressed in a st pepper costume, and in another episode her and her husband (ben) are fighting over which copy of st pepper they should keep.
In real life the actor who plays Ben (Robert Lindsay) loves the beatles and you may have heard him narrate some beatles tv/radio programmes.

Well I KNOW this was mentioned in a earlier thread of this post, but they just aired the "new version" of HELTER SKELTER last night on CBS w/ Jeremy Davis in the role of Charles Manson and he was ranting about the BEATLES talking to him thru their music primarily w/ the song Helter Skelter and the references of the White Album.

Sorry Im so late for the reply but I have a few references that havent been mentioned yet.(Well at least I dont think so)
Any way, in Josie and the Pussycats (the movie with tara reid) they come out after getting dressed up and they see the billboard with "Josie and the Pussycats" on it, and the girl goes, no we're just "The Pussycats" and the guy goes,
"Oh no good band has ever started with THE"
And she replys "What about the Beatles...?(I forget the rest she named"
Also, in Sugar and Spice, the main character Diane goes
"Well the Beatles were wrong, love isnt all you need, love wont buy me a car, love wont pay the rent, and love sure as hell wont buy me my Dolce Gabana jeans when I loose my baby weight"
Also the Simpsons episode "The Bart of War" Bart and Milhouse go to Flanders house for some reason and find a BUNCH of Beatles memorabilia including 'Beatle Juice' and Ringos drum set (sorry I havent seen this episode in a while)
Also, in an episode of 'Disneys House of Mouse' Goofy is showing fashions and he gets to the sixties with a Beatle wig on and the drum set (as I recall) says Help! on it.
Also, in Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Sabrina tells Harvey she "Woke up, fell out of bed," and Harvey asks "Dragged a comb across your head?"
And as we know, in the Blues Brothers, the guy says $5,000? Who do you think you are...The Beatles?!
And in Full House, Danny looses his car and he says,
"Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, life goes on" and at the end of the episode Drive my Car is played.
Also, when Joey and Jesse are locked in the recording studio located in the basement, they shout for help and Danny goes, "Oh they're recording a Beatles song, Help!"
In one episode where DJ is riding a horse, a cover song of Good Day Sunshine is played.
Also, when its Jesse's birthday the family sings, yep you guessed it, 'Birthday'.
And this last one im not possitive...but when the Beach Boy (Mike Love?) guest stars for the telethon they're putting on at the end Jesse is asked to accompany him in a song he accepts.
Then Jesse goes into a drum solo and Mike says something about Ringo(?) I think, because I havent seen it in a while and I didnt really hear it well...
But anyway, as you can tell I have seen quite a few shows/movies...enjoy http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Its more of a John/Yoko reference (of sorts) and personally i got a good laugh out of it!

for me the video isn't that smooth but the point of interest should show up ok.

There are a couple references (more solo than Beatles) in the movie The Banger Sisters (Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon). For those who may not have seen it, the basic storyline is that they are both former groupies and Sarandon's character is "grown-up" and ultra conservative... IMO the movie had potential but sort of falls off short.
ANYWAY, early on in the film Hawn's character (Suzette) neets up with an uptight writer who has some compulsive rituals when he writes. One of them is placing pictures around his typewriter. Most of the pictures are of old white haired and balding poets or writers (i think). Suzette grabs one of the photos, one that doesn't really fit with the others, and says "What's George Harrison doing here?" later there is a close-up of the photo and it looks like its a black & white shot of a smiley George in the '70s.
also, Suzette has some pictures of her and Sarandon from their glory days. one of the pictures is of them sitting in front of a "War Is Over" billboard. There's also a cover version of "Fame" (co-written by John) in the movie.
There are also references to Jim Morrison, as well as a cover version of an Animals' song.
BTW, i saw that episode of Quantom Leap just today. probably my fav episode. The first time i saw that (years and years ago) i got teary eyed when he started to sing Imagine... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif that was before i was really even a fan though.

Here are some more tv shows/movies; I'm not sure if they have been mentioned yet,
The show "The Golden Girls" has Beatles references on several shows. On one episode, Dorothy Zpornak is dating the guy who plays George in Beatlemania. She gets him to quit so he can write his own music. Dorothy asks Sophia "Do you know what this makes me?" Sophia replies "Yoko Zpornak?" It's a funny episode. Dorothy also sings a little bit of "She Loves You".
On the tv show "Three's Company", Jack has an awesome painting of the Beatles on his bedroom wall.
On one episode of "The Monkees", they wake up in the morning to "Good Morning Good Morning" playing over and over.
On the "Brady Bunch" episode with Davy Jones, Marcia's friend says that there's no way Davy will sing at their prom so they might as well "ask the Beatles to play".
In the movie "Mask" with Eric Stoltz and Cher, the kid has a Beatles poster on his bedroom wall and when he's at a dance, they play "I Want To Hold Your Hand".
I have the old 60s show "Hullabaloo" on DVD and on one episode, the host and musical guests are singing Beatles tunes while they are sitting on these awesome cubes made out of pictures of the Beatles. I know that show was make back in the 60s, but it was worth mentioning.
Brian Epstein also hosted a segment where he showcased up and comers in Britain. One of the singers was a really young Marianne Faithful.
I had another one, but I can't remember it now for some reason...

Dunno if this has been said yet, but on one episode the "Red Coats" come to town. They are obviously a spoof on the Beatles. They have the moptops, the Liverpudlian accents, girls scream and chase them, and at one point Ernie (I think) says something about "I Wanna Hold Your Breath".

I have just seen a show on HGTV (which I forget the name, my mother was watching it) any way, they were redoing a room and they were creating a bed for the daughter and the subtitle read: "The Daybed Trippers"
In Look Whos Talking Too, John Lennons song "Jealouse Guy" is played.
Other than Drew Barrimore claiming dating "Ringo McCartney" in 50 First Dates, Pauls song "Another Day" is played.
Also, in Roseanne, Rosanne and Jackie picked up a girl hitch hicker who was in a band.
She was somewhat of a feminist and when she left Rossanne was like "Oh look at the music we had when we were growing up"
and Jackie goes "Oh what about those sweet guys like ___, and the Beatles"
Rosanne nods and responds, "What about that one song 'Run for Your Life'..." and she starts singing the song.
On one episode of Cheers, # 248 - "The Little Match Girl" Fraiser responds to something saying "And the Beatles had nothing to do with it"
Sorry, I tried to find the transcript to see what he was actually talking about.

Alistair Mcgowan did a skit the other night on UKTV where an interview was taking place and Paul and Yoko were guests. The interviewer was asking questions about the Beatles, and "Paul" interupted saying he was voted number 20 in the most influential British persons of the 20th century. "Yoko" replied John was better because he was named number 11. It was funny stuff. (If you watched it). Our British friends on the forum probably know the show but I dont know if our US or Europe friends get the show in their country.

The Munsters had an episode where a rock group was in their house--I only saw this once, a zillion years ago, so I don't recall why they were there--and making a mess, but they redeemed themselves by playing "A Hard Day's Night" for the Munsters, which converted them to fans of this nameless group. In South Park I have caught many references of the Beatles
-In Ike's Wee-Wee (season 2) Mr. Mackey was teaching the kids about drugs and alochol and said that LSD was made famous by John Lennon and Paul McCartney
-In Wide Recorder Concert (season 3) Yoko Ono was part hosting with Kenny G of the annual Recorder concert to play "To My Country To Tis Thee"; in Mr. Garrison's room at his parents house, you will see a handwritten poster that says "The Beatles"
-In Free Hat (not sure which season that's on, I think 5 or 6) where the kids were upset where Steven Speilburg and George Lucas likes to update their films and Stan mentions "If the Beatles decide to update the White Album..."
there's a few little others, but those mostly stand out for me to remember

I just got back from a movie that had a John mention and had to post before i forgot too much of it.
Its a new movie called Little Black Book and towards the end there's a scene where Brittany Murphy is talking with an ex-boyfriend about fate and life-plans going down the drain. he's basically trying to say to her that you never know what's going to happen, etc,etc and he says "John Lennon: 'Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans'" and she depressingly responds with "but he got shot!" like sometimes fate isn't so nice.
I can't remember what his response was.

1. Wonder Years: Kevin is in class (maybe 8th grade and it's 1968), and the teacher asks how we get our values. One kid says parents, ones says teachers, and one yells out, "the Beatles".
2. Saturday Night Live was showing the best of Lovitz and there was one little scene in black and white and they're all dressed as the Beatles and one of them asks Ringo, "Well, what do you think Ringo?" and Ringo replies, " I don't think. I'm just happy to be here!"

Paul McCartney: Ringo, what's your opinion?
Ringo Starr: [ uptight ] Oh listen, I don't know.. whatever you fellas think. I mean, I'm just happy to be here.
John Lennon: No really, Ringo, tell us what you think.
Ringo Starr: [ hesitating ] Well.. alright then. Well, I think there are several points to consider. For one thing, we must remember this is a business first, and two, if people in the band are unhappy, it will affect the performance, and three, this is a crucial stage in our development, and I think..
Paul McCartney: Alright, alright, Ringo! I think that's enough!

Is this it:
http://snltranscripts.jt.org/88/88bgoldman.phtml
Beatles circa 1963 debating whether or not to keep Albert Goldman in the group...
Ringo Starr: Well, whatever you guys think. I'm just happy to be here.

Awesome SNL site BTW

use the search engine to find any and maybe all the Beatles/Paul/John/George/Ringo references over the years!

For the best of Lovitz they edited it to just 2 lines but that looks like the whole bit. I think Lovitz was Ringo.

a thread resurection of sorts- and yet another TV mention:
tonight on Saturday Night Live Jude Law was the host http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif
His opening monologue ended with girls pawing for him while singing "Na Na Na Nanananaaa, Hey Jude!"
as many know, Jude got his name because of that song and he's a Beatles fan, and according to reports he is planning on playing Brian Epstein in a yet to be made movie about Epstein (i wonder if that will have any Beatles mentions in it?? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ).
I also thought he did good impersonating Tony Blair and Peter O'Toole in SNL skits.

American Dreams on NBC usually has a reference every episode. Some times the characters mention them, or the local bar entertainer sings their songs. But, in the beginning of every episode there is the girl holding up the sign that says "Elvis is dead, long live the Beatles" Its a grand show regardless the fun references.

I noticed tonight that IFC (Independent Film Channel) had two movies in a row with Beatley names: The Daytrippers and Broken Hearts Club Band. I can't imagine that putting these two movies back to back was a coincidence.
i couldn't watch either of them though so i have no clue about possible referrences within the movies themselves.

BTW, I watch American Dreams every Sunday! I like the acoustic versions they do when the bar singer sings, recently they did I'll Follow the Sun and it was really pretty good IMO.

out of habit i put Hearts Club 'Band'. it was just Broken Hearts Club. DayTrippers was already over and the other movie was about gay baseball players or something. I didn't watch that b/c I was already switching back and forth between the BBC and ESPN!
i looked up DayTrippers and not surprisingly it didn't to have anything, other than the title, to do with the Beatles.

I don't know if this has been posted or not but, they played "Hey Bulldog" on "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Blackbird" on "Roseanne".
