1. Alec Guinness-this is virtually perfectly ridiculous for me, the man was virtually perfect, both as a human being, and as an actor, I highly recommend his autobiography

2. Ewan McGregor
3. James Woods
4. Antonio Banderas (haha I dont take him too seriously, but he's a fantastic comedian. Too bad she walks hand in hand with another man)
5. Ian McDiarmid-he could pherhabs be even no1, but outside of Star Wars, I saw almost nothing of him, but the sole performance of Palpatine/Sidious is the best performance, I've ever seen, including any performance by any actress or actor. Mind you, he actually played the devil, which is the most demanding task of any actor
6. Christopher Lee
7. Dustin Hoffman
8. Rober De NIro
9. Gene Hackman
10. James Dean

I voted for De Niro. I especially love his character in Once Upon A Time In America (full 4-hour long version!)

However, there are no actor's I'd really love to vote for like Buster Keaton, Woody Allen, Gene Wilder, any of the Pythons, Steve Buscemi, Bill Murray any many others. By the way, there no women in this poll! :devious:

I don't think you should create so many polls. There's place only for ten actors, directors, scientists ets. and that means many great people are left unmentioned. :afraid2:

It's 3h 47min, at least one version of Once Upon A Time In America. And, yes, it's a fantastic, an epic film, i was obsessed with it once upon a time in Croatia. Especially the first hour or so, until the scene when his character lurks through the hole to see the girl. James Woods considers his role as Max his best. the music is fantastic, Sergio Leone plays an almost instrumental version of Yesterday at the beginning, the man who's singing only goes "yesterday", then the instrumental, then he only sings the first word of the second verse "suddenly", and then again the instrumental, and, of course, Sergio's trade mark, Ennio Morricone's theme, which is beautiful. Ennio did scores for many non- Sergio films, as well.

It's funny you should mention Gene Wilder, I was considering even putting him on my personal list. I love Woman in red. He's got to be one of the funniest human beings who ever lived. If I had some power, and were a director, I'd make a parody of star wars, with him as emperor. Woody would be 11th on my personal list. There's no women, cause they're not actors, but actresses.

as for unmentioned ones, if you, or anyone, feels the need to mention someone, just do it! Doesn't matter they're not in the poll, their names will not be forgotten that way.

Out of those choices, I went for Jack.
His performance in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest floors me everytime.

Haha! I rememebred a dialogue from "Hot Fuzz"

Danny: She's our only policewoman.
Nicholas Angel: She's not a policewoman.
Danny : Yes she is, I've seen her bra.
Nicholas Angel: She's a police officer. Being a woman has nothing to do with it.

Gene is very funny! I love his character in "The Producers" especially when he goes histerical.

none on the list....

Johnny Depp would be my top favourite actor (cannot wait to see Sweeney Todd!) followed by Ewan McGregor. There are of course others but I can't think of them right now...

I dont know if Humphrey Bogart was a great actor, but he was in my favorite movie, Casablanca. But then again, he seems to play the same guy in most of his movies, the tough guy who cares only for himself. I think that's the way it was with most actors back in the early days of cinema.
Cary Grant was usually the romantic guy, John Wayne was usually a cowboy, Edward G. Robinson was a gangster, Fred Astaire was the song and dance man.....but honestly I agree with Jes and would have to pick Buster Keaton. Not only was the man a great actor(he could make you cry without the use of dialouge) he was a great director as well.

It was hard to choose, but I voted for Marlon Brando. I'm also a big fan of De Niro, and Laurence Olivier. My very favorite, who is not on the list, is Al Pacino.

Chaplin, no doubt. His first slapstick may be the same as enyone else's, but even then he was always able to throw the original thing in. His Mutual films already showed what would come later, I think, and from then on, I think it's difficult to find more expressive an actor (not to mention his work as writer, director, composer...)

I would vote for the best actor of the past few years......Phillip Seymore Hoffman! He is equally adept at comedy or dramatic roles. One of my favorite PSH lines is from 'Along Came Polly'. He told his buddy Ben Stiller
that he had to leave the party because he just 'sharted'.
From the list I would vote for the late great James Dean. He was one of the few actors that could convey his feelings just by his facial expressions and the way he moved his body.

YAY! I like Gene Wilder, too! :teeth1: He's a good one! Though not my fave. My fave is missing from the list... but as you said.. you can't get them all on. I think it would be nice to just have a thread that says Who's Your Fave Actor with the poll. I mean that way it is open to all actors (male & female).

Oh I forgot to say that from the list, my fave is Charlie!

I also love Jack's performance in The Shining.

I heard Stephen King wasn't too happy about the casting. He wanted the character to seem like more of a normal guy, so that his descend into madness would have more of a dramatic effect; but he felt Jack appeared a bit creepy and crazy from the beginning. Hah. That's Jack Nicholson for ya :laugh5:

I agree, the film is fantastic.

I normally don't really like movie adaptions of King novels, but Kubrick is a genius.

Come and play with us, Danny. For everrr, and everrr, and everrrrrr.

as far as i know, king actually hated kubrick's style, and the whole concept on how it was realised. His problem was with kubrick
