‘Eleanor Rigby’ in sad end

Published: 04 Jan 2008

A VICAR is appealing for people to attend the funeral of a real-life Eleanor Rigby.
Olive Archer, 83, had no visitors in the last five years of her life at a nursing home.

She never married or had children – and faces being cremated with only vicar Rev Akasha Lonsdale, 43, and a funeral director present.

Her pitiful end mirrors the 1966 Beatles’ No 1 hit in which Eleanor Rigby “died in the church and was buried along with her name. Nobody came.”

Rev Lonsdale found a glamorous 1940s photo of Olive which she hopes people will recognise. She added: “Olive was really beautiful – she looked like a film star.”

Olive is believed to have lived in Swindon, Wilts, until moving to Kington St Michael care home near Chippenham.

Her funeral is at Semington Crematorium, Swindon, on January 14. Rev Lonsdale urges anyone who knew Olive to call her on 01249 813188.

That's sad. That's really disapointing to hear about people like that. I wonder how they automatically came up with the Eleanor Rigby similarity though. I honestly dont think that would come up in my mind.

I read about this a few days ago in the Daily Mail and then on Friday there was a report that they had found some long lost family friends! SO it is still really sad that she had no one come and see her for years and years BUT at least they found some friends to come to he funeral.
Really sad. I hope I don't have an end like that.
