without a doubt the best film about the beatles ever made

i crack up just thinking about the video parody of help - called ouch! or the Tragically History Tour, or Nasty's wife whose 'father invented wwii'. A classic comedy.

Does everyone know the story behind this scene? This is going to sound made up and I wasn't sure of it myself, but Eric Idle has confirmed the story so here goes. When Harrison was in his makeup for this scene waiting to shoot, Neil Innes (Ron Nasty) was standing around off camera. Suddenly, a boy who thinks he recognizes a Beatle goes up to Harrison and asks "Excuse me, is that John Lennon?" pointing at Innes. He had no idea who he was talking to.

Well, I used to read books about the Beatles, but after I got to know John, I found out that a lot of what I had read was such crap and so untrue that I wouldn't read any books that came out (I made one exception--May's book).
I didn't watch that Rutles movie when it came out because someone told me that it was made to make fun of the Beatles, and I had the idea that it would be somehow disloyal, you know. I never happened to notice it on TV after it had run its course in the theaters or pay-per-view or whatever it was, so I just never did see it. I heard that there was a website about the film, maybe I will take a look at that.
I am interested in reading Pete Shotton's book, now that I found out he wrote one. I hope it's still in print, but I try to stick to believing people who (1) KNEW the Beatle they wrote their non-fiction book about, and (2) do NOT have an axe to grind (like an ex-employee might, you know who I mean).
As for the movie, I thought that I was the only one who hadn't seen it.

Out of curiosity, which version of the scene with Dan Ackroyd (the Decca Records spoof) did they use? Or do you have the option of choosing which one to look at?

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

The DVD only has one version of the Dan Akroyd bit. It's the one where Eric is asking him questions and he's just smoking, weezing, and giving one word answers. Then Eric asks "What's it like to be the worlds biggest a**hole?" (or whatever he actually says there) and then Dan weezes and looks shocked and then that's it.

Actually the alternate Dan Akroyd scene is included on the DVD as a hidden feature. From a site I just visited:

Go to the second chapter menu (the one with Let it Rot at the top) and click on the arrow buttons on the DVD remote until the blue frame highlights scene 12 (The man who turned down the Rutles). When that selection is highlighted, hit the right arrow button once. Blue frame will disappear and nothing on the menu will be highlighted. Next, press the down arrow button and the words Let it Rot at the top of the menu will highlight. Press enter and the scene will play.

There's also an Easter Egg with Eric Idle's production notes for the Rutles where he also mentions the sequel. Also some interesting facts such as the Yellow Submarine Sandwich animation was done by the same people who did Yellow Submarine, George and Ringo and Eric and Neil Innes were at George's home and performed Ouch together. It was suggested that they form a group called the Brutals. I haven't played my copy for awhile so I can't remember how to access this feature.

Anyone know what's going on with the sequel anyways?
