I think it's a fun movie. Kind of a cult classic. One year a Beatlefest, we tried out for the sound-alike contest doing "Death Cab for Cutie"! No, we didn't win, but we had a blast.

We SHOULD have won! We got the most applause in try-outs of anyone! :-)

I certainly don't think it sucks. Just think of it as a collection of music videos and ignore the stuff in between and then it's pretty cool.

There you go! I love that movie! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif I watched it with my one and only local Beatle bud and her little bro just happened to be watching it with us when the part with the stripper came on. You should have seen his ears turn purple! It was funny because it's censored and you don't really see anything, and he was turning a million shades of red. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/laugh7.gif Don't worry though, their mom was "supervising". http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

GREAT MOVIE!! Not my favourite Beatles movie, but still, it's sweet!

LilSam says that I sound like Paul when I do the:
"It's ten miles north on the Juseberry (how do you spell that??!) Road....And they're having a lovely time!"

Now, if I paint my nose red, get a pointy wizard hat...(where's Harry Potter when I need him?!!) and wear a red trench coat, with my chubby cheeks, I might look a bit like him! (the female version of course)

I like MMT and I don't think anything they did sucked, to be honest. It's part of their history. They were trying to do something different and they did.
Even if you don't like the actual movie, the videos of the songs are worth watching over and over, imo.
I happen to like MMT better than Let it Be.

I love the scene with John and Little Nicola and the balloon!! "I've got a present for you do you know what it is?" "No" "Have a guess" "No!" "Go on, have a guess!" "No!!" "HAVE A GUESS!!!" "Nooooo!" "Well, you're going to get it anyway."

the movie is a lot of fun, the funniest thing about is that nothing really happens, and they seemed to be expecting so much.
none of the beatles appeared to know what they were doing. it´s not really funny or intelligent but i´d watch any s*** just to see john onscreen.
and he was gorgeous..........

my dad just got it off ebay, and infact i'm going to the bank tomorrow to pay for it, and all this talk about it's bad points is begining to bug me, because my dad and i haven't seen it before, and i was really hoping it was as good as the other two movies (ahdn and help!) we already have on video, because i wouldn't want my dad to be disatisfied with it (though anything with George will satisfy me- even though u ppl say he doesn't say much in it...that's our peaceful George! deep in thought http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif ) i'm really worried, because i'm sure he only bought the movie because i mentioned it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love MMT. Especially that song and dance number, YOUR MOTHER SHOULD KNOW; John is SOOO stoned, it's unbeleivable that he is able to stand, it's very obvious--he has his wasted-type smile on, and then at the end he almost falls and has to be held up...
I like that Aunt Jessie scene with the spaghetti, too.

I think MMT and AHDN are the only two films the boys loved themselves because they were being themselves.

I read in the Anthology book that they weren't that keen on Help! because it was scripted for them and not their natural selves, although AHDN was scripted in a way alot of it was ad lib and the writing was done with their personalities in mind.

I think MMT is great, very very British with very Monty Python style humour, fantastic stuff.

I had to watch it a few times before I decided it was ok. The first time I saw it I hated it! Someone said it was like a long music video. That seemed to help me - once I stopped expecting it to make sense, I could just watch it for what it was.

And everyone has different taste - I didn't like Paul's orangey vest. But they look stunning in the white tuxes! whoo-hoo!

I asked John if he was stoned during Your Mother Should Know--you know, in the white suits, dancing down the stairs, then at the end he almost falls down-- and he said he was SO stoned that it was a miracle they could finish the scene at all. They were out of their minds for just about the whole thing, staying somewhat straight only for the scene with the little girl in it.
But you get to look at The Beatles being gorgeous and acting silly for an hour-- what's not to love?

I got the movie out and watched it for the first time yesterday. It does seem rather incoherent but reminded me a bit of Monty Python when you have the military man shouting orders in such a way that and you can hardly understand a word he says. And was there a visual joke about a bum steer at the end of the scene?

Some of the songs mentioned on the video cover rather disappointingly do not appear in the movie. Or did I miss them? Or do I have an edited version? Missing songs included Penny Lane, Strawbery Fields Forever, All You Need Is Love, and Baby You're a Rich Man.

Ah, so they were stoned. That's why their "acting" was rather sloppy as was the dancing which looked amateurish. They were most defintely starting to loose their professional discipline at this point in their careers.

However, this film is good for the songs and, of course, it is important for "clues" (hee hee).

I admit it was with some trepidation that I purchased Magical Mystery Tour on video cassette some time ago. I'd heard a lot of negative reviews, and I wasn't sure what to expect.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised. I liked and still like the film (the dance sequence to "Your Mother Should Know" is my favourite part). I have seen it quite a few times, but not for a long while.

It's nothing like their first two movies; it was the Beatles exercising their unique creativity. At least they went out on a limb and tried. I don't own the film any longer, unfortunately, but I certainly wouldn't mind having my own personal copy again.

I know many Beatlepeople have various opinions about this flick, and I respect the diversity in those opinions. But I happen to like Magical Mystery Tour. I think it's a cool, creative movie. Besides, I enjoy liking something most critics don't!

I like MMT. Yeah without the Beatles it wouldnt have been worth much, but then would the other Beatles movies have been so great without them? if AHDN or Help! was just a movie about some made-up characters would they have been as good? I like the songs in MMT and it's got some funny moments. Plus it's got Neil Innes and the Bonzos! :wink1:
