I am writing my dissertation on British film at the mo' and of course one of the films I'm looking at is AHDN. Anyone got any juicy academic film stuff I can include about it?
narrative, style and form, theme and idelogy are the areas I'm looking at.

Besame Mucho appreciated!http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup1.gif

Hi, something that might be of use is the video of "The Making of AHDN" narrated by Phil Collins. I have it and its quite good for academic film type stuff as it talks about Richard Lester as the father of the modern video, and with interviews with Roger Ebert about its historical significance, so maybe you could check that out!

Are you looking for books, or just online info? I don't know much scholarly stuff about the film myself, but here are some things I would try:

"Beatles at the Movies" by Roy Carr has a very good chapter about AHDN. But it's out of print, unfortunately. Among other things, it talks about Richard Lester's filming techniques - the camera hardly ever moved, but the amount of body language by the Beatles makes it look like it did. (he was criticized for his "tricksy camera work!") Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0062734377/qid=1019531869/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-3989786-1287347

Another book that looks good and academic-ish is "A Hard Day's Night: The Ultimate Film Guide." http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0582432456/qid=1019532356/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/102-3989786-1287347

As for online info, here's an interesting link written by a film student: http://www.imsa.edu/~mitch/titles/a_hard_day_night.html
Author info: http://www.imsa.edu/~mitch/introduction.html

It talks alot about the film's editing, including an analysis of the "Can't Buy Me Love" scene. It's pretty interesting (though that filmstrip graphic is very annoying!) http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/teeth1.gif Hope that helps!
