View Full Version : That same old feeling...

When you watch Beatles movies like AHDN do you get that feeling... that feeling about how happy they all seem, and how 'innocent' everything seems?
It's like watching things unfold right there on screen... you see John's antics, George's facial expressions... they seem so alive, so youthful and vibrant.
First time I saw AHDN I burst out in tears during the romp scene when "Can't Buy Me Love" is playing and they all run out in that big field and play around... They're all so care free.
It's a happy feeling, but, in a sense, you feel so sad and empty... Does anyone else get what I'm saying?
I'm not the only out there that feels this way, right?

No, you're definitely not the only one who feels that way! I think it's especially true with AHDN, since they were so young and fresh-faced at the time. And it was before all the drugs and bitterness began to affect them. They're just so vibrant, healthy, and successful. Which is great to watch, but it does remind you that they'll never be that way again. When I saw the "snapshots" of George from AHDN during the Oscars, I nearly cried right there.
But, I'm so glad that we have these films, so we can always remember the Beatles the way they once were, and future generations can see what they were like. I'm only 23, and a good deal of my love for the Beatles came from seeing AHDN and Help as a kid. I don't know if I would be quite as big a fan if they'd never made these films. I only wish they had made more (but then, we'd probably be missing an album like Rubber Soul or Revolver!) http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/wink3.gif
I know I'll always treasure these films, and I hope to show them to my own kids someday. And I think I'll only appreciate them more and more when Paul and Ringo are gone. I like to think of it this way: we shouldn't feel empty when we watch the films, because the Beatles' films and music will keep them young and vibrant in our hearts forever.

I couldn't agree more with you both. The black and white, the innocence of it all, how carefree they seem - you just can't help but feel happy and excited when watching it. I totally know what you mean LR, about feeling happy but empty...I feel that way too at the "Can't Buy Me Love" part. It's as if the guys are trapped throughout the whole movie and when they finally break free, you feel happy. But then realize that that was how their life REALLY was, they were endlessly trapped by their fame and those carefee moments were probably few and far between at times. So when that's over, i guess that's why it seems sad to me. However, I can still watch this movie anytime at all and be in a good mood after it, it's truly a classic!!!

Yeah AHDN definitely fills you with happy feelings. When it was rereleased at the cinema I saw it for maybe the fourth time in my whole life (I unfortunately have yet to find a copy to purchase) and watching the energy they had on screen combined with the fact that they were all about 10 feet tall, I was about one 'woooh' away from squealing like a little girl and getting out of my seat and dancing.
I find that the movies allow the younger fans (like myself) who haven't been blessed with the experience of Beatlemania firsthand, to feel even just a fraction of the spark they had.
