I thought with Halloween coming up, it'd be kind of interesting to hear what everyone does to celebrate.

Do you go Trick or Treating?
Does your family have any traditions?
Do you carve Jack O Lanterns?
Do you dress up?
Have you ever dressed up as a Beatle?

That is my third favorite holiday. We do the pumpkin thing. I watch my favorite horror movies. I don't dress up, but the kids do. Every year I make Mummy Calzones.

halloween use to be fun when we were little. my brother and i use to take our allowance and go by decorations so it would be the scariest house on the block. people have said it was.

almost every year here in colorado, halloween usually falls on an extremely cold night, which makes it hard to wear costumes or just show them off. being bundled up in a big winter coat really takes away from your image you are trying to create. last time i went trick or treating was about 2 years ago with some friends. although it was embarrassing and i didn't want candy, i wanted to get outside anyways. i didn't dress up, i just had a beatles hoody and round sunglasses and somebody said i looked like john lennon which was way off.

now that we're grown, the only tradition we still do is carving pumpkins. although i don't take as much joy out of it as before. i once tried to carve the beatles. paul came out well, but the pumpkin rotted before i could put it out. so i didn't bother with the others.

we have halloween parties at work for the elderly residents that live there and costume contests along with it. the parties are cute, but i'll only go and dress up if i'm working that night.

i guess to me, halloweens more for kids. passing out candy is about all we still do. christmas certainly isn't as fun as it use to be either.

We don't really have any kids in my building, so if I'm staying home, I don't really do anything for Halloween. The last two years I've gone to Halloween costume parties that this band I like has played at and they've been a lot of fun. We're going this year too, my friend is even bringing her parents! I don't usually dress up as anything concrete, just something goofy, like last year I had an outfit with hearts all over it, but wore devil horns and carried a pitchfork and was "Devil in her Heart". This year I might recycle the horns and pitchfork and wear this turquoise dress I have and be "Devil with the Blue Dress On". Just silly.

I was telling Asha that my youngest LOVES Halloween. He is usaully either a pirate, Capt Hook or something that requires him to dress in all black. Nothing too scary though, he wont be a vampire. My oldest likes to dress up as a Star Wars character such as Obi Wan or Anankin Skywalker.

We usually carve pumpkins and used to go trick or treating on the street where my parents live....I dont know what we'll do now. We may go over to my sister in laws for a party.

One tradition we have is we watch, "Its The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown." My kids still love watching that.

Halloween used to be one of my fave holidays. It still is although today I don't do much of anything for it.

I used to LOVE to help give out candy & see everyone's costumes. I would dress up & go trick or treating, but because I was tall, it ended when I was only 12. People thought I was a grown up. So I would still dress up & hand out candy.

I used to love to carve the pumpkins (well cleaning them out was nasty, but carving was fun!) Each of us kids would get our own pumpkin to carve & I was really the only one who really put thought into it before even buying the pumpkin so I would get the right shape I wanted & everything.

When I lived in California I still put up decorations & handed out candy, but since I've lived in Colorado I don't get trick or treaters. I think it's because I've always lived in flats or row houses, so I don't have a regular free standing house. Most of the kids around me go to areas where there are houses.

One day I'll get to participate again! *my dream anyway*

I loved Halloween when I was a kid. One of the best things was my school's Halloween carnival and most of the kids wore their costumes. In second grade, I won 2 cakes and a doll--a lucky witch I was! It all seemed to end in our town for several years when a local man poisoned his own son's trick-or-treat candy in 1974 for the insurance money. Halloween left the building and didn't come back big until years later.

This time of year also now reminds me of the anniversay of a robbery that occurred around 1:am when I was on duty. The three guys that robbed us came in dressed like the Taliban. I thought it was a joke at first!

If I'm working Halloween night, I will dress as the Angel of Death! http://smileys.smilchat.net/smileys/mystic/angesz.gif

For his real costume he had a white shirt and black pants, but it was June and he just liked the coat, hat and hook...I still have that coat and I will never get rid of it.

I'm the "Halloween Lady" in my neighborhood. When my son was a baby, I made special Halloween music tapes with Monster Mash, Devil In Her Heart, Boris The Spider, Frankenstein, etc...We listen to them in October.
He's 10 and still loves them.
We go to Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes...I always bake an Apple Pie from scratch.
My front yard becomes a graveyard. The inside of my house gets decorated too.
I dress up and have a party for kids. I take them Trick or Treating, we play games, etc...And we watch movies like "Abott & Costello Meets Frankenstein".
I can hardly wait til Monday (Oct. 1st) to start our traditions.

I LOVE Halloween. It's one of my favorite holidays! I love decorating for it, and I love getting candy to give to all the trick-or-treaters. I always get my favorite bags of candy, so I get to enjoy the left-overs!

We usually all go to a pumpkin farm during the month of October, where they have hayrides, a haunted house, fun barn, and pig races, animated skeletons, witches, and others things, corn maze, costume shops, etc. And of course we pick out a big pumpkin (or two or three) and put them on our porch. My husband always carves the big one usually the night before Halloween, and make a jack-o-lantern out of it.

I never dressed as a Beatle before, but my son Tony did a couple of years ago:

Even though I'm 14, I still like to go trick-or-treating. I have an excuse because I take the little kids that my mom babysits around the neighboorhoood, and I get candy too! We uses to have parties at school with a parade around the school, but now that I'm in high school, we dont do it anymore.

How cool that lots of people get really into it here! Like VB, I like the recipe books with cute things to make for parties. (Mummy Calzones sounds cute, VB!) Last year we made a cool snake sandwich, shaping the bread before baking it, and it had olives for eyes and a pimento forked tongue. :) We do heaps of decorations, too, and typically host the neighborhood Halloween party. :smile1:

I stopped 2 years ago giving out candy to the neighbor kids, it was so cold for a couple of years I just could no take standing in the cold, I have dogs and the doorbell makes them crazy, so I stopped, this is my favorite holiday, I celebrate every fall getting the Halloween Barbie, love putting out Mums and decorations, made some of my own decorations, like a fall wreath for the door! I used to do straw bales with a scarecrow, skeleton and Mums for the kids to trip over, not my intention but they were so exuberant! I got Mums today and took them with me on the way to a friends house, she along with her Mom and her 93 year old Aunt have trouble getting out, so I left my Mums for them, heck I can always go back out, they were already on display before I left this evening!

I of course used to trick or treat every year. Once I got too old to trick or treat, I'd set up some horror scenes in my parent's front yard (usually some dead guy coming out of the ground)... and I'd play a scary soundtrack out the window.... For many years during the 90's, I'd attend my friends' annual Halloween party where I'd of course dress up.

Once I moved away and into an apartment that not too many kids come to to trick for treating (we live on what is pretty much a main drag - not far from a residential area, but not residential itself), my Halloweens have become uneventful. I carved some awesome pumpkins the past few years, but when no kids come around, it's kind'a pointless to put in the effort.

When we finally move into a house with a yard, I plan on going all out with the Halloween decorations, etc....

I love Halloween; it's my favorite holiday. I always go all out for it. I love dressing up, carving pumpkins, eating candy - everything!

My aunt throws an annual party, and it's always one of the highlights of the year for me!

As for a costume this year, I haven't decided on what to start working on. I was thinking:

WOAH BIG PICTURE (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x43/buddomonn/CarowindsTripMay2007008.jpg)
Velma from Scooby-Doo

(the girls on their backs. Basically that means I'd get to wear anything and run around screaming with crazy make-up on :laugh5:)

I love Halloween. If it's not my favorite holiday, then it's my second next to New Years. I love everything about Halloween; the creepy music, carving pumpkins, dressing up and being someone else for a day, candy, haunted houses and scary movies.
Halloween is the best! I remember at my Elementry School, they used to have a Halloween maze and you would go classroom to classroom, collecting candy and going through haunted houses. It was GREAT!
I think the best thing about Halloween is looking at all the little kid's dressed up as Spiderman, or a pirate. It's just adorable! Last year, I had a little kid come up to my door dressed at Thomas the Engine and I must have gave him two handfuls of candy :teeth1: .

I dress up for Halloween every year and for this year (since you can go to school dressed-up) I think I'll be Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast At Tiffneys", since people think I can pull off the black dress and I apparently look like her.

Halloween's fun!
My husband decorates the outside of our house and I decorate the inside. Normally, my husband takes the kids out to trick or treat, while I stay home to hand out candy. If the weather's nice, I'll sit on the porch with a big bowl of candy and a glass of wine. I keep beer nearby, for the dad's I know. The kids trick or treat and the dad's trick or beer!

I loooove Halloween! So in answer to yer questions, I used to go Trick or Treating, but now i'm a bit old for that. The last time I trick or treated was 4 years ago. Now I usually go over to a friend's house. We dont really have 'traditions' per say, although my parents always watch "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" on Halloween night. I usually always watch Young Frankenstein. I dont carve the jack-o-lanterns, I paint them. Last year I remember I painted Lightning McQueen from Cars on one. I do sometimes dress up, if the opportunity presents itself. I do at least wear my witch shirt, my spider ring (a real one, not a plastic party favor one), my ghost ring (ditto), and my skull necklace. I cant say I've ever dressed up as a Beatle, on Halloween anyway, I do have a Pepper suit like John's that i've worn to Beatlefest a few times.

Oh that's a good idea! I should watch "Young Frankenstein" for Halloween! I love that film! I love to watch "Halloween" in October, too. The first one is the best! :laugh5: The music still creeps me out!

My mother used to always make chili Halloween night. She came from back east & it was always cold that night so she thought we needed something warm in our tummies before going out. However, we grew up on the west coast & it was down south & hot Halloween night. Chili just made us hotter! :laugh5:
