. . . "I Am Sam" is playing at certain locations around the United States. Some friends of mine had the opportunity to see a special sneak peak of it earlier this week and all I can say is: Wow.
I just picked up the soundtrack to the film which, as you know, features covers of Beatles songs by modern artists including Sarah MacLaughlan, Eddie Vedder, Rufus Wainwright and the Stereophonics to name the few. Here is the track listing:
1. Two of Us - Aimee Mann & Michael Penn
2. Blackbird - Sarah McLachlan
3. Across the Universe - Rufus Wainright
4. I'm Looking Through You - The Wallflowers
5. You've Got to Hide Your Love Away - Eddie Vedder
6. Strawberry Fields - Ben Harper
7. Mother Nature's Son - Sheryl Crow
8. Golden Slumbers - Ben Folds
9. I'm Only Sleeping - The Vines
10. Don't Let Me Down - Stereophonics
11. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - The Black Crowes
12. Julia - Chocolate Genius
13. We Can Work It Out - Heather Nova
14. Help - Howie Day
15. Nowhere Man - Paul Westerberg
16. Revolution - Grandaddy
17. Let It Be - Nick Cave
It's *great*! And it's especially nice to flip on the radio and hear "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away"-- I think that cut is gonna be a big hit, actually.
Anyway, see the film! The magic of the beatles is a constant underlying theme. . . not to mention the fact that Sean Penn gives a damn fine performance!

exactly... wonderful, timeless music by today's best bands and singers around. My personal pick being Stereophonics rendition of "Don't Let Me Down", (one of my Beatles favs by the way)... about the movie, I'll tell you after I saw it.

...and he has a daughter, whose name is Lucy (like the Beatles's song)...the movie is about some people who wanna take apart Lucy from his dad (correct me if I'm wrong), and he's obssesed with The Beatles. I haven't seen the film...

The movie was fantastic!! That's the most I cried at a movie in along time. Sean Penn was terrific. My fave part was the halloween party and Sam dresses in a collerless Beatles suit, wig and inflatable guitar. It was also nice to see the John posters around their apartment. Some reviewers thought it was a glorified "Rain Man" but I don't believe so... but you'll have to see it for yourselves.

"Rain Man" had autism, but Sean Penn's character, like Forest Gump was retarded. Forest was higher functioning than Sam.
Sam was the best character I have ever seen Sean Penn play. I loved the movie and Lucy ("Lucy Diamond Dawson" after a Beatles' classic) was adorable. She was bright, had a lot of savvy and was delightful.
I loved the Beatle costume (Paul - notice he had a left handed bass) Sam wore at Lucy's school Halloween party. The Abbey Road spoof where they walked across a striped road, the Beatle songs, the John Lennon posters -- all those wonderful references Sam made to the Beatles made for a delightful movie experience.
KJ is right -- it is a tear jerker. It is also an excellent film.
