When Srila Prabhupada showed George the beautiful Divine love poems from Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Prabhupada asked George to write a song in a similar fashion~ a song of separation and love for Krishna. This auspicious meeting gave us perhaps George's most well known and inspired hit, My Sweet Lord.

Reading a little about the saint whose poems inspired George, we find that Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura encouraged us to take shelter at the feet of Radha. Radha sets an example for us by her unwavering love and devotion for Lord Krishna. Further, we are encouraged to pray to her and to come to the Lord through her, realizing that it shows humility to approach the Lord indirectly, through Radha, the perfection of selfless love.

Any time we approach Krishna through Radharani (another name for Radha), we will be successful. We will make progress. Devotees often greet each other in her name, "Jai Radhe!", like George's song. This is because she wants all to love her Divine Lord and will present your love favorably before Him. She is so enmeshed and inseparable from Her Divine Love that she has no selfish wish to keep any love from Him. She ensures all our offerings of love are received by the Lord. All our love and offerings of fruit, flowers, etc - all we can offer to Krishna through Radharani. The more love She can gather for Him, the more Her heart is deeply happy, therefore the more Lord Krishna is pleased. He loves Radharani dearly.

Today is the appearance day of Radha, equal to what we think of as a birthday. We know Radha is the eternal expansion of Lord Krishna, and as such is beyond birth. Nonetheless, this appearance day give us a chance to think especially of Her, and for those inspired, to perhaps put on George's "It Is He" and sing for her, or offer a flower to Her picture. No act is too small when done with sincerity.

If anyone would like to know more...

Hare Krishna! Jai Radhe!

P.S. Since God is beyond time, if you discover this day belatedly, you can still celebrate! Hare Krishna!
