I just rented the re-released Yellow Submarine film but it doesn't contain any of the live beatle footage of them recording Hey Bulldog. It's got the Hey Bulldog scene in there, but as I see in one of the above posts someone said the footage was included in the movie too. Is this true? If not where can I see it (preferablly for free)?

When I saw it, it was on one of those nighttime news shows around the time "yellow Sub." was rereleased. I don't think its on the video. Maybe its on the dvd as a bonus?

I saw the "Hey Bulldog" footage on one of the anthology tapes...maybe #7??

But the anthology footage is just short snippets edited out from the film. Someone mentioned (I think Dark Horse) that Neil Aspinall had gone over the footage and re-edited all the footage together then put the Hey Bulldog track onto it in sync with the footage. The vhs version doesn't have it, does anyone who has the DVD version have an answer?

Well my anthology version is more than just snippets Ward....it is the entire Neil edited thing with Hey Bulldog in sync with it all as you described. Mine isn't the dvd version either.
Hmmmmm sounds to me as if you got ripped off or something!!!

It may be a bonus on the DVD and has been on MTV and VH-1 on occassion. The footage was originally used in 1968 for the Lady Madonna video.
Also in 99 ABC's 20/20 aired it,but talked thru the whole thinghttp://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/angry2.gif.

I rented the DVD version of "Yellow Submarine" and it doesn't contain any footage of them recording "Hey Bulldog". It had the movie trailer and a small behind the scenes footage of the making of the movie but no "Bulldog" footage.

Thanks for shedding some light on the subject, shygirl. Yes, I thought that the footage in question came from what was shown on ABC back in '99, but I wasn't 100% sure about that. It's too bad they chose to talk over the clip, though!

Ward, I think you've got some facts mixed up here. In the re-released "Yellow Submarine", the added footage refers to the scenes with the song "Hey Bulldog" playing during the movie. I've never heard of any live footage added to the re-release on video or DVD.

Lucy, your an extremly lucky girl. I've talked to all my friends some who have the anthology videos which they purchased from the store and some who taped it off the t.v. when it aired back in '95 and none of them have the Hey Bulldog recording session taped in its entirity. Where did you get your tape?

Bearcat77, check Darkhorses post somewhere above, and he mentions the full recording session from that song was taped and George Harrison mentions it in a 1999 interview.

Hey Bulldog and Lady Madonna were recorded the same day. The Hey Bulldog part was filmed. If you watch the Lady Madoona video closely you can see where the mouths and lyrics don't mesh right.

...and the "Hey Bulldog" video (come on, it was just two years ago http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif) was released after the "Yellow Submarine" movie and the Yellow Submarine Songtrack CD came out... The rumours up to that point were that "Hey Bulldog" was going to be re-released as a CD single and promoted as The Beatles' "new lost" song (you know the lack of airplay it gets being the great song that it is), but then, after Neil Aspinall came out with the video, they decided the other choice. So it's very difficult to find a tape of the video itself. Gosh, I feel lucky, I have it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

Hey, I've seen the "Hey Bulldog" video in its entirety becuase back when "Yellow Submarine" was re-released, there was a special on VH-1. I, being the good Beatles fan I am, recorded it and so I have the whole video on tape. It's pretty cool.

Still trying to earn my second star, too... Here's a clip from my book, which will be released on Feb 10 '02. I think Beatlebonjovi is right in saying the best place to find this film is on the VH-1 special. Here's a list of what you get on the Yellow Sub DVD:
"Some of the special features Apple released with it included the original trailer and a promotional 7-minute film called The Mod Odyssey, two rare films that had been valued at hundreds of dollars a piece on the rare Beatles collectors market. The DVD is a great bargain, and one of the best excuses in the world to invest in a DVD player. The added elements on the DVD include: •Behind the scenes featurette entitled The Mod Odyssey; •Original theatrical trailer; •Audio commentary track by John Coates; •Music-only track highlighting the film’s score; •Eight page booklet packed with inside information on Yellow Submarine; •Behind the scene photos taken from the making of the film; •Video and audio interviews with Paul Angelis (Voice Actor), John Clive (Voice Actor), David Livesey (Animator), Erich Segal (Co-writer), Jack Stokes (Animation Director) and Millicent McMillan (Heinz Edelmann’s Assistant); •Three storyboard sequences including two that were not featured in the film: “Battle of the Monsters”, “Sea of the Monsters”, “Pepperland”.
Cheers! from Dr. Bob Hieronimus

Well I bought the first batch of Beatles' CDs before I had a CD player, so I guess I'll have to get the DVD of "Yellow Submarine" before investing in a DVD player.
