I just watched this one for the first time. I own and have listened to the soundtrack numerous times - but had never actually seen the movie. Interesting to say the least. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif I was just interested to know the thoughts about YS floating around the minds of the BeatleFriends here in the forum. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I saw the movie for the first time a few weeks ago. I thought it was very intersting and funny. The little jokes never ceased to put a smile on my face. My favorite part of the movie is the "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" scene. The pictures and colors just fit the song really well.

I've seen this movie so many times I've lost track -- and I still enjoy it. It's definitely a treat for the eye -- and of course, the ear! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/music1.gif The "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" sequence is good; I also like the "Nowhere Man" and "Hey Bulldog" ones.

I love Yellow Submarine. There are so many punny jokes in it and the whole thing reminds me off a giant Peter Maxx drawing. One thing I've noticed is that you have to have an understanding for the Beatles music to enjoy it though, my friends have watched it and think I'm insane for liking it.

This movie is so much fun. I enjoy every minute of it, from beginning to end. I'd say it's my favorite, as it's the only one I have that's not overdubbed to Spanish. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif My favorite parts are the "Sea of Science" sequence ("Only A Northern Song"), the "Sea Of Time" part ("When I'm Sixty-Four"), the "All You Need Is Love" and "Hey Bulldog" sequences, and of course, the grand-finale with "It's All Too Much" and The Beatles' cameo at the end. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif Oh, and also the "Sitarday" part when they play the intro to "Love You To". http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

They re-released to the theaters a couple of years ago. I dragged my boyfriend to it, and even he enjoyed it. (He bought the new verison of the album, so maybe there's hope for him yet!) You should be able to find a video or DVD of the movie pretty easily, as it was also released on those formats.

A great movie! If I had a dollar for every time I watched it, I'd be a wealthy man. The entire movie is a masterpiece. I have both the original version and the re-issued version on tape. My daughters got introduced to the Beatles by watching the original years ago.

My main memory of "YS" from my baby Beatlefan days is that it was on TV one year around the 4th of July when everyone else in my family wanted to watch something else. So I watched it on our 2nd TV....a 13 inch black and white!! Watching YS on a bxw television is NOT the best way to see it! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
I liked it much better in color!

I'm so glad to see this topic and another chance to toot my own horn, but since that's not what forums are for, I'll add an opinion, too. I was immediately entranced by this movie in 1968 and watched it over and over again (when they used to let you do that in theaters). I thought The Beatles must be greater geniuses than I ever before imagined for capturing the essence of the human experience (love, peace and music can overcome the bluest of meanies and the underdog is the key to success) in such a beautifully designed and wittily-written animated landmark. It was not until years later and many hours of interviews with the actual creators of the film did it dawn on me that "The Beatles Yellow Submarine" was not created by The Beatles! (blasphemy!) You can find out everything I learned over the past 30 years in "Inside The Yellow Submarine: The Making of the Beatles Animated Classic" (432 pages with 200 illustrations) to be published by Krause Publications this January 2002. Call 1-800-258-0929 to pre-order today. I'll let you know when you can see the original Heinz Edelmann piece he painted exclusively for my cover as soon as I post it on my website. Sorry to be so longwinded, but like I said, mention Yellow Submarine in my hearing, and off I go... Dr. Bob Hieronimus

Thanks, McCharlenstar -- it just seemed to fit somehow, if you know what I mean. And for those of you who have not watched the YS hundreds of times, like some of us here have, here's a prescription for you: Cue up to the sequence where the Yellow Sub leaves Liverpool with the Beatles aboard and heads in search of Pepperland to the tune of the long chord from "A Day in the Life". Watch this 25 seconds in slow motion and you will be amazed at the fluidity of the scenes (they are postcards) and how they worked together. Love it when the statue of the general raises his hat to you as you pass by!

I love yellow submarine! It is the best movie I have ever seen. Ok, one of the best. Its much better than Casablanca and many other classics. No offense to any classics, because I am a true supporter of great film. But Yellow Submarine is just so thouroughly enjoyable. It really is. One of my favorite parts is when Ringo says "Cant help it, I'm a born lever puller."

My sister would be richer. I've owned the new movie for about a year, and my sister adopted it a week after i bought it, one week, she watched it straight, every minuet she was awake, she can sit there and recite the whole movie *well so can I*, but the thing is, My little sister was only 3 when it started!!!, shes 4 now, but she still watches it atleast once a day, Once, sorry to say it, but i was working on a term paper, and i almost thew it out the window... cuz it was annoying me!
oh well, I love every part of Yellow Submarine, Especially the "Nowhereman" Sequence... And all the jokes, My best friend at school told me about it, and i borrowed her movie, thats how i fell in love with it, then we ran around the mall all day looking for it, and i spent $25 dollars buying it, every penny was worth it though http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
The jokes, last school year, my friend and i would just sit in class saying them, and laughing, then get in trouble, one of the things i could remember was like "The Foot hills of the Headlands"
And the big thing, one of us would say Its Horrible, Simply Ugly, Awful or something,
Somebody Push a Button... Or I Want Me Mum, and Only a northern song was a big thing cuz we both have brown hairhttp://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif... i don't know why, but the movie makes you feel so good, i'd like to live in Pepperland where everything is happy, but I can't, i'm in the middle of computer class right now http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif tee hee

Theres a few things I loved about the movie. One is Georges' really bad acting at the end of the movie "What...can...he...do...with...half...a..hole?" Acting so bad, it's good!
Secondly, the movie was made for kids AND adults (Blue meanies taking drugs, phsycadelic images, inside jokes etc..)
The actual drawings are in a kind of victorian style that suites the films images and music (the Elenor Rigby scene was brilliant).
I always wondered why they took out the "Hey Bulldog" sequence in the North American release. The film wasn't that long to begin with, and the "bulldog" part was only a few minutes extra.

I like any accent that is not my own. British accents are some of the most fun, especially if you learn to differentiate one end of the country from the other. As to the actual question, I don't have trouble with those particular accents.
By the way, which part of the Non-Euroed Nation is Twickenham in? ;-)

You should hear the battles between the American producers and the Liverpudlian voice actors over how strong to make the accents! John Clive (voice of John Lennon): "I think once he realized how determined we were to do this our way, and if he didn’t like it, we said, You can go and jump in the lake, you know. Go f--k yourself, I think we said."
