Hi everyone,
does anyone know anywhere where I can get the Let It Be video? Has it even been released?

Hi beatlemaniac,

As you probably know, "Let It Be" is commercially unavailable anywhere in the world, at this point. I may be wrong, but I believe that Apple has been sitting on a remastered version of the movie for nearly ten years. For some reason, they won't put it out (perhaps they're waiting for the "right moment" to release it). However, I do think it was once commercially released on VHS and Videodisc back in the early 80's, but they didn't stay around for long. On the other hand, there are bootleg versions of "Let It Be" making the rounds on Ebay. Maybe you should try your luck there. Hope this helps you out.

Martin Lewis said at a Beatlefest when asked the same question, that George H is the holdout for re-releasing the film.

Something about the quarrel he and Paul had on George's guitar playing.

They have an ebay auction for LIB on DVD in Japan. Could that mean it's not far from being released on DVD in the US?

I've got a copy of it. It's a bootleg I bought from eBay. It's a bit depressing to watch and and boring. The best part definitly is the rooftop concert at the end.

It's a good way to see how band breaks up. Aside from the rooftop performance, it's depressing to watch because it's obvious that the four of them were just going through the motions, at that point.

yes, sometimes it's even hard for me to watch the last anthology videos. i mean, in no way do i discredit their incredible solo work as four individuals - it is just sad to see their boyish camraderie diminish. however, definitely a must watch (like siobhan said) for any beatles fan.

I remember seeing it at the Senator Theater a long time ago, and it was kind of sad seeing the tension and frustration between them. If it ever comes out, I'm getting a copy of it. It's part of their history, if nothing else.

Not all the scenes are tense though, the Billy Preston footage is incredible. Did you see the way they all started joking and playing around once he came onto the scene. Also "The Two of Us" scenes were really interesting to watch how that song developed and changed in the studio. I think it's probablly their most interesting movie.

I have never seen it and I think that it is something I need to search out.
I have noticed that in a tribute to George, the last few days on TV, they have been using the footage of the row with Paul. Probably wouldn't have been my choice.

George was the holdout for the rerelease of the film, most likely because of that scene. Not one I would have used either.

They weren't yelling and it was hardly a row at all really. George was a bit put off by Paul telling him how to play a guitar part and as they were sitting there George said something like, " If you want me to play it that way I will, I'll play however you want or I won't play at all!"
I personally never thought it was that big a deal.

I think I remember reading that it was after that argument that George went home and announced he had 'quit' the Beatles.

No they are very quiet and civilized about it. I personally can't feel that this is the reason that George wouldn't let the thing be re-released. I mean everyone has already seen it and George was one to call a spade a spade, wasn't he? He has made mention of it at times too. What's the big deal. To my mind there is something wrong with that story.

I will probably get it when it's widely available, but only for completions sake. It is a sad and depressing film to watch. Watching the band break up and fight just hurts too much.
I did have the good fortune, tho,to see it on the BIG SCREEN several years ago at a RockFilmFest.

i think it was witty of george to say those things to paul (he was being somewhat demanding), the one about "i am only here to please you" or whatever it was, and i think the "right time" to release the video should be pretty soon, dontcha think??? w/ george and all....*sobs*

the only part of the movie i have seen was on the tributes to george.

The book "Get Back" by Doug Sulpy is a good one to read about these sessions. George did not leave immediately after the argument with Paul but over an argument with John that was not taped. It seems that he was irritated with both John and Paul during this time. It bothered me that the tributes the other night showed the argument between Paul and George and almost nothing about them working on the Anthology. It doesn't come across to me like a serious argument in Let It Be anyway - only irritation with each other.
I did read where Michael Lindsey Hogg (the director of Let It Be)said that he believed it wasn't being reissued because George was opposed to it. Apparently it was a painful period for George.
I would love to have a good quality release of this with some outtakes.

There's plenty of footage to add, if that's what they want to do. The movie has a running time of 88 minutes. There were hundreds of hours on tape when filming stopped. Even if they add the footage after the original "rough cut", there'll be 210 minutes.

well i read some articles and found that George never wanted the movie rereleased again because of the fights and everything. some people say it will be rereleased soon, on DVD with about an hour of extra footage. others say it might never be rereleased. signs point to soon though, so i will be waiting!!!

More likely 70 hours of film....
In case you were wondering as well(and I am digressing slightly) a lot of the "Get Back" Sessions were mastered from the film soundtrack as none of the Twickenham stuff was ever recorded.

I thought too big a deal was made of that so-called "argument" too. It may sound kind of bias, but I actually found George's response rather endearing, as opposed to sarcastic or frustrated, or however else he may have tried to come across. He had, after all, earned his place in the group, and "the quiet one" was, probably a little tired of being "quiet".

...and what was all that commotion during "all things must pass"?? I always wondered whether there was a little "sabotage" at work. But George does get a little more insistent and bolder in his singing as it goes along...but there seems to be a lot of impatient and/or intolerance of this song, or the spirit of this song or whatever,. The beauty of it manages to come across just the same, if you refuse to become distracted by the distractions. Just seems to be a lot of non-cooperation...Just fits in, I guess, with the overall feel of the film.

Hardly an argument, bet they had bigger barnys than that in their time. Good on George for saying that though, Paul was being abit of a knob and needed telling. Shame for Paul really because I expect they could all be knobs at times but Paul got caught on camera.

Wouldn't be true friends if they didn't fight, like brothers and sisters, would be odd if there was no quarreling.
