Ok:
I just saw MMT for the first time the other evening. (I bought this **fantastic** DVD set that has Help, MMT, The 1st US Visit and the Making of AHDN.)
So I was a bit apprehensive with all the things I've heard about it and all. And I have to say, it was. . . everything I thought it would behttp://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif **WEIRD** (although you gotta love Ringo's Aunt Jessie http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
What do you guys think about this. . . um. . . film?

It was more of a documentary type thing, wasn't it. I was a little let down after I first saw it as, after I'd seen the other Beatles movies, my expectations were set too high. But, nonetheless, there were some very good (and funny) bits in it. Ringo's aunt as you said was a laugh (the 'dream' spaghetti scene with John as the waiter is a classic!) and I thought the little midget was funny too. I also liked the 'Fool On The Hill' and 'I Am The Walrus' bits, of course. Unfortunately a lot of the material they filmed on their tour ended up being cut out, and we did miss out on some pretty good scenes with that. All in all though, it wasn't too bad. It's one of those films (if you can call it that) that grows on you after a while. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup.gif.

I'm not a big fan of this movie, although the videos are great (saves the daY) and I like in the beginning when Ringo is walking along bickering with his aunt.

It's hard for me to consider any Movie with the Boys beyond HDN. It was a "Snapshot" of all the things(they're music and personalities)that we could'nt(and still can't seem to)get enough of. The way we wanted them to stay forever. Help was also entertaining, but we could'nt keep from measuring it against HDN. I have been reading about the "RE-REALEASE" for DVD for months. It just keeps getting pushed back.
It's been a hard days night, and I been work'in like a Dog!!!

Ok well I have to confess when I first
became a Beatle Fan I went out to get this
film from my local record store. I watched
It once and didn't like it so I took it
back to the shop and got my money back!!!!!
(Shame on me I know) But I went out and
brought another copy of it about a few
months after I took it back.
I love it now though and yes it is a
strange film but hey it's cool!!!!!

I don't care for MMT at all -- I saw it for the first time in 1978 at my friend's high school...they were showing it as a fundraiser and charging $1.50 to see it and the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park film. I thought (and so did my friend) that MMT was so bad we were tempted to ask for our 75 cents back!! It wasn't even WORTH 75 cents to see as far as we were concerned. I saw it again a couple of years ago (after studiously avoiding it for more than 20 years) and still hated it. Definitely not my cuppa...

I sort of think of it as a collection of music videos and in that respect, it's not bad. I like all the scenes with songs, but the stuff in between is pretty dreadful.
We used to do a "Rocky Horror" type audience participation thing when we watched it on Sunday night at Beatlefest and that definitely made it more fun! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Yeah, I think I agree pretty much with the rest of you guys. Anyone who says that they absolutely adore this film is probably lying. Oh well. . . the music is what's important, anyway.
That DVD set that I bought did have "The Beatles First U.S. Visit" which I have watched countless times since! It was **fantastic**!! It felt like I was watching A Hard Day's Night!!! Oh my gosh, I just cannot rave enough about that documentary!

Nothing at all, my friend. Just the film and I think it has an option for a biography of the beatles, but now "lost" scenes or anything.
Now the quality on "Help" and "The Beatles First U.S. Visit" was downright fantastic. And the sound just sort of blasts out at you from everywhere. The quality alone is worth the investment. Still watiting for AHDN on DVD. . . ho hum. . .

I just saw this blessed movie for the first time and... could somebody explain to me what was it all about? The four or five magicians... the bus... nothing like a story or anything. And then they sing "Your Mother Should Know" and it's over. Liked the "Blue Jay Way" scene though, seems like a George solo video. Other than that, I need some good explanations. Plot? I didn't see one.

Tehe, that's the effect this movie has on everybody: what's the point? Answer: there's no point! It's just this tour those english people makes (among them Richie and his aunt, and Paul, and Johnny and George) to have some evasion from the everyday life, the life of people in the 60s England.. of persons who had to work hard in the factories to make ends meet... they had those so called Mistery Tours to escape, they were brought everywhere, without a definite track, a misterious one... now, the Tour Beatles show us is a pretty Magical (that's why the magician exists...lol... they are there to make you laugh... Where's da bus!!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif love that scene)... and they go in all those places, everyone of them is the background for a Beatles song... and there's also the love story between that tiny man, and Richie's aunt, nicey they are http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif (Pirandello, she says to Johnny-waiter...http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif)
The story is this, that magical (the magicians let all those things happen, like you enter in a tent and you end up in a cinema, or the extraordinary view on the right of the bus) mistery tour that ends in that strip club for men... and the final is just to see them dance, lol... I love them dance, they are pretty nice (well, it really doesn't have a point, but don't tell that you didn't like them so well dressed, and so coordinated ... but Richie http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif)...
To end, I love the MMT http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

I loved it as an oddity. And as a Beatle fan that I am, I appreciate every single piece of filmed material that I can view, but this was not a movie at all. More of a documentary psychedelic piece, that could be accepted. I liked it, and I'm going to watch it a couple of more times just to see if it "grows on me".
Man, which one was Paul smoking when he thought about this? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

No lying, I "absolutley adore" this film honestly, like better when I am in certain frame of mind but also because I love Ivor Cutler (Bust Bloodvessel) who is a great songwriter and poet and is still doing gigs!
I think it's better than the other Beatles films because it's not as contrived.

I actually kinda like this movie. It definitely is not one of my favorites though. I like it for the little things in it like John interacting with the little girl and the Your mother should know dance and seeing I am the walrus performed. But I don't think I'd subject my friends to watching it as I did with Help and AHDN.

The VHS she's got has the deffect of playing just parts of the songs instead of the whole sounding, like when you separate the tracks in different channels in your stereo... for instance, on "Blue Jay Way" you barely get to listen to the instruments, and stay only with George's voice. I think that's what she meant with "it's in mono" (trying to be helpful, Cecilia).

Yeah, I'ts like when you turn down the "balance" in your stereo, and it only sounds by the "right" side or the "left" side...for example, when the movie starts, you can listen the bass and other instruments clearly, but not the voices...

I saw this for the first time in 8th grade, the 70's, in my Modern Communications class, where we learned all about music, my teacher loved when I constantly corrected her about her Beatle facts.
When it was over everyone turned to look at me...as if I did it!!!
I found it amusing, still do.
It's all in fun. Wonderful music.
Gorgeous scenery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love John with the little girl too!!!
He looks sooooo sexy!

I like MMT - but mainly because it's the Beatles and I think they're all very gorgeous in it. I LOVE the Walrus video. And G and J together in the strip club were very cute in the blue light, even if the scene was rather weird (the guy foaming at the mouth - yikes!).
One thing about this movie though - I always kind of felt bad for Aunt Jessie.
I guess you have to watch it for videos and music (and shots of the boys) rather than plot. It pales next to Help and AHDN for me.

Your description is perfect, I remember going on a Mystery Tour when I was little, and I remember my Dad and my Uncles brought a crate of beer on the bus and they all got drunk and sang songs, just like in the film.
It is so typically English all of it. I love because it was them having a laugh and being natural, the other films were scripted and made for the commercial market, I don't think MMT was.

I found it in the video store and rented it - this is only the 2nd time I've seen it.
The first time I saw it, I thought it was bizarre and didn't make any sense. It was kind of overwhelming. Having seen it again, and keeping in mind that it was more like a long music video than a regular movie, I actually liked it. (Except for the military scene with the cow - too much blah blah blah) Maybe I should see it again ...I might like it some more. I don't think it will replace AHDN though. (oh, just for the record, I was not under any medication or conscousness-enhancements while I watched this)

Hey, this DVD box set everyone's talking about, where are you getting it?! A movie store, or a place like Best Buy??! OR did you order it off the internet? See, me mum's paranoid 'bout using her credit card on the net, and refuses to order anything off of it. I would really like to find this DVD set! Thanx!
Now, to go switch records, I've been listening to "Rubber Soul" but now I wanna listen to "MMT"! I love you all!

I found the set at Future Shop - a cd/dvd/electronics store here. I got the last copy though and I haven't seen the set anywhere else, so I think they're getting hard to find. Maybe you could talk to an electronics or music store around you and give them the info, then they could try to order it for you??? It's totally worth the hassle!!!!

"Magical Mystery Tour" was (and always will be) my fav. Beatles film. Yeah, it is a bit weird, but I've been a "Monty Python" fan before I became a Beatles fan so I got used to things happening for no reason whatsoever. I like the scenes with the Magicians and I love "the Fool on the Hill" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/wink3.gif
