I saw this little blurb on the Abbey Road site and thought it was very interesting.

Update (8/19/07)
This blog from Art Informer roughly translates an earlier item from the Beatles Unlimited site that famed director Martin Scorsese ("The Last Waltz") plans a documentary on George Harrison.

I am a member of Beatles Unlimited and follow their magazine and site news too but did not spot this, so thanks, it sounds interesting.

Can you maybe translate a bit of this article

I can understand much of it but not quite the last paragraph about Olivia and Dhani.

Here is a rough translation from the useful trnslation tool Altavista (http://www.world.altavista.com/)

Martin Scorsese prepares set of documents on "beatle" George Harrison

The North American producer Martin Scorsese, who recently concluded a set of documents on the Rolling Stones, "Shine light", prepares itself now to twirl a film, also documentary, of homage to the deceased "beatle" George Harrison, notified the German magazine Horzu cited for the El periodical today Parents.

In accordance with the explanations given for the producer, in a letter where it invites old friends German of the guitarist to participate in the set of documents, the new film will look for "to explore the multiple faces, spirit and music of Harrison".

haahahaaaaaaaaa!! I just LOVE reading translations like that!

My friend and I used to write to each other and then use google language tools to put it in to various languages and then back to English just for a laugh. The best one was when it translated kitten into Japanese and then back to English as "child cat". I love that.

Thanks kmac. This certainly gives us all the general idea.

I'm looking forward to this being twirled.

Oh I just want to get it straight before writing about it, so mainly this part

>>>>>>"I did not hesitate as in accepting the proposal of Scorsese. George and I was I eat brothers ", I said the photographer, who kept a narrow contact with Harrison until the a death of this, of cancer, in 2001.

the 'eat' word is maybe 'like' but I don't get why it seems to come from "the photographer' Astrid, where I believe these could be more Klaus's words.

and this

"The German magazine still informs that the widower of Harrison, Olivia, and its Dhani son the Scorsese for the set of documents had acceded to open its private archive, that will be twirled in September in London."

I can understand Olivia and Dhani wanting to cooperate, but I dont understand "twirled"

thanks

The direct translation would be something like this.

"I didn't hesitate a second in accepting Scorsese's proposal. George and I were like brothers", said the photographer, who kept a close contact with Harrison, until his death, of cancer, in 2001.

The german magazine also reports that George's widow Olivia, and his son Dhani, accepted to open their private archives to Scorsese for the documentary, that will be filmed in September, in London.

OK thanks Taxman for that.

Well, I have no experience with the work of Scorsese however I trust the cooperation of Olivia and Dhani is a well enough basis to believe his work is respeted and qualified.

The article is a bit vague also where it mentions Astrid as the one in contact with George where I have picked up from Klaus that he was. But those are minor details. I hope he also asks Horst if he is alive still. Simon Leng was so very positive on how much Horst was able to contribute about George and how well he had observed him.

And ofcourse a documentary is worthile to me. Anything of good level about George is more than welcome.

Is there any news on this? I have not found anything but since it mentioned "London" maybe something in the local press?

I saw a little interview with Martin Scorsese filmed in Cannes this year. He is quite a fanatic fellow, also from what I saw in a trailer of Shine A Light, the Rolling Stones film he is making or has made which btw shows awesome material of the Stones.

Martin Scorsese has committed to direct an untitled documentary about the life of George Harrison.

Scorsese will produce with Harrison's widow Olivia and Nigel Sinclair in a co-production between Scorsese's Sikelia Prods., Harrison's Grove Street Prods., and Sinclair's Spitfire Pictures.

The docu is being constructed as a theatrical release, and the Harrison family will supply materials from its extensive archive. Interviews and early production will begin later this year, and the film will take several years to complete.

Pic will cover Harrison's Beatles career and later years that included a successful solo music career as well as a foray as a movie mogul when he backed Handmade Films and made pics such as "Monty Python's Life of Brian" and "Time Bandits." Scorsese, who explored themes of faith in "Kundun" and "The Last Temptation of Christ," will also focus closely on the Eastern spiritual pursuits that were central to Harrison's life.

There are some more update stories now sortlike as the one John's Monkey posted.

One adds

Scorsese stated, "George Harrison's music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today and I'm looking forward to delving deeper." Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are expected to participate in the making of the film.

More news reports are now on various sites with basically the same content.

The article John's Monkey linked also has a comment from Olivia in it at the bottom end.

Olivia said: "It would have given George great joy to know that Martin Scorsese has agreed to tell his story."

(Maybe, just maybe this is also because Scorsese did the Bob Dylan film too)

The BBC describes it quite nicely:

Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese has signed up to make a film about the life of former Beatle George Harrison, according to trade magazine Variety.

Harrison's widow Olivia will help produce the documentary, and Variety said his ex-bandmates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr may also take part.

Scorsese told Variety Harrison's "music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today".

"I'm looking forward to delving deeper," the Taxi Driver director said.

Scorsese has also recently made documentaries about Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones.

Olivia Harrison said: "It would have given George great joy to know that Martin Scorsese has agreed to tell his story."

As well as Harrison's time in The Beatles, the film will look at his solo career and movie projects, such as Monty Python's Life of Brian and Time Bandits.

Scorsese also plans to explore Harrison's faith in the Eastern spiritual pursuits that dominated parts of his life, the report said.

Interviews and early production for the film, which will be released in cinemas, are expected to begin later this year.

Despite being nominated for several Oscars over the years for such films as Goodfellas and Gangs of New York, Scorsese only won his first Academy Award this year for The Departed.

Martin also did an exemplary job with his 2003 TV documentary on the Blues, the 1995 expose on Clapton, and the fine 1978 motion picture The Last Waltz.

He has said and shown in his projects that music is very important in his life. That he is a Harrison fan is even more exciting to me since he has been a part of some of the finest rock-umentaries ever. I can't wait to see the Scorcese treatment applied to the storied and rich past of the mystical one.

There is an intersting update which I picked up at the official George website

Last Monday Orlando Sentinel had a brief interview with Martin Scorsese about his current projects.

Here's what Scorsese said about his George Harrison film: "Hopefully you’ll see that in theaters by the end of this year. We’re literally two thirds of the way through it as I speak. We’re editing it, and editing is really making the movie, in this case.

We’re going through all this footage. ALL of it. David Tedeschi’s editing it, who cut Shine a Light for us.

And we’re getting to it, all of it. So much to go through. That Concert for Bangladesh, that alone…beautiful film.”
