A few days ago I learned of a 10-year old indie movie called "the hours and the times" or something like that. It's about the trip to spain john and brian took just before the first america trip. Every "official" review I've seen of it was terrific, but I'm wondering if any fellow beatlemaniacs have seen this intriguing piece of work. Popcorn Q, a movie forum by planetout.com, even has it listed amongst their other gay films.
It's a very fictionalized account and they don't actually get it on, but apparenlty it's very well put together, not insulting or undermining, and funny.
I saw a copy on Ebay, but it was being sold in pounds.

Not sure of the title, but I have heard of the movie. Whether it is based on truth or fiction, I still think it's nothing but rubbish.

"The Hours And Times" (1991), written & directed by Christopher Münch and starring Ian Hart as John Lennon (same guy who played John in "Backbeat") and David Angus as Brian Epstein...
Onosideboards, the movie is intriguing as you say, and I quote: "This movie explores the complex relationship between John Lennon and homosexual Beatles manager Brian Epstein. In April 1963, Lennon and Epstein took a trip to Barcelona together, and what may have happened there is the subject of this finely nuanced film. Epstein struggles with his desperate, hopeless love for Lennon, and the surly, sharp-witted and cruel Lennon is torn between needling him about it and relieving his suffering. Watching them spar in conversation is fascinating. Contrary to what it might sound like, the movie is not exploitative. Instead it is a meditation on the frequently tortured friendship between these two men."
If you can pick up a copy from ebay, I'd do so. Well worth watching in my opinion. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Funny you should mention this -- the film was on cable last night, on the Sundance Channel (or Independent Film Channel, I can't recall right now). I've got it on a self-recorded video...it's an interesting speculation, but since no one knows what actually happened on that trip other than Brian and John, and neither one of THEM are here to tell us for sure, it's just that...speculation, what-if...
The actor who plays John in this film, Ian Hart, later played him again in "Backbeat." And he's about to show up again as Professor Quirrell in the Harry Potter movie!!

I've never seen this movie, but a friend of mine who has says it's so bad that it's hilarious. After he quoted some of the dialog to me, I tend to agree with him, but I don't want to make any judgements on something I haven't seen myself.

I've seen the movie ~ it's pretty creepy if you asked me. The actors were all pretty right-on though, I thought so, anyway.
